I love roku and so purchased this for on of our tv that isn't a smart tv. When i tried to connect the stick to the tv it wouldn't fit because the stick was too long. The area on the tv that had the connections was boxed in therefore not allowing the stick to fit. if it was maybe an inch smaller, the stick that is, then it probably would fit. i should have taken a pic with the stick inside but forgot.

I purchased the Roku stick after using the Roku 3 on two other tvs. I didn't want to spend too much money but wanted to be able to watch other than over the air stations in my bedroom. The Roku stick was great. No issues connecting to the network, and was easy to use. I like the ability to take it with you and still have the channels you like. Great interface to surf through. If you are a first time cable cutter and you want to test it out before jumping in full bore, this is the product for you. If you find you don't like it, you can use it as an enhancement to your CATV or Satellite. Great product.

    Registration Fee Required

We purchased the ROKU streaming stick to get out of fluctuating Satellite fees. Hook up was pretty simple, with lap top to register the code number given on the TV screen. However, before we had time to put the codes in; the TV gave us a message the code had expired (we're talking just a few minutes) and we were to retrieve another code from the TV. But...the web page wouldn't budge to any other page and there was no place to put the new code in. We had to find Roku's Customer Service number and call to register the product where we were informed it now cost $49.88, a one time fee: New Policy changes according to the representative. The representative hooked the Roku up remotely...by the way. My husband was furious over this and was ready to take the Roku back and get a refund...but we didn't and are glad we didn't! We are enjoying our favorite TV programs uninterrupted by commercials and able to watch a continuing series without waiting a week. We are just getting started with Netflix with a monthly fee of $10.71 (includes taxes) and it's not a contract that locks you in for a year, it's month to month, and so far so good. Roku offers many other on line streaming channels as well and each have fees. For our needs and budget...Roku suits us. We live in rural community with questionable reception (no cable out here yet), so we rely on our rooftop antenna. The quality of the streaming is just as clear as it was with Satellite.

Love Roku, and the stick is convenient

Switched from DirecTV to Roku, and subscribed to PlaystationVue. The move saved me $100/mo and my wife and I still have all the channels we normally watch. That includes all the sports I watch, which was my biggest fear in switching. The Roku stick is a great device for us because we have two TVs that are almost never used at the same time. We can move the stick between rooms easily. I also love the idea for taking it with me when I travel. Many hotels are adding HDMI ports for in their rooms, so you can take your TV with you. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because there have been some glitches with the screen freezing occasionally. When that happens we have to restart the device, and then it works fine. Very annoying, but still better than paying for DirecTV.

Does everything the fancier Roku's do for less. It is a slower unit. Set up is very easy. The one item I wish was different would be the remote. This model does not have the ability to have the earphones for silent listening.

    Time to Stream

I got tired of my dvd/blue ray player freezing up after streaming for a few hours. It locked up everything - usually when I had someone else's dvd loaded so then I couldn't get it out until I brought the whole thing to be unlocked and rebooted. Decided it was time to separate the features. Choose the Roku over others because it would allow me to do more of things I wanted and for a better price. Haven't regretted it at all. I can stream all day then watch a dvd then go back to streaming without any hiccups. It's super easy to set up and a breeze to use. And it's portable, so when I decide to put a tv in my bedroom, it can follow me. Wondering why I hadn't done this sooner.

I upgraded to this Roku Stick from the previous Roku Stick and here's what I've noticed. It is significantly faster, and thus more usable, but it still is not as zippy as I would have hoped. There is noticeable lag or hiccups as you scroll within apps like Netflix and Youtube most times. But that being said, it's much better than before and worth buying if you want a Roku for your TV. The remote on this one is slightly thinner, and occasionally also takes a few clicks before it starts responding, but I use this with a Harmony Smart Control for the most part and have no issues, except for the occasional issue on Harmony's end. Happy I got the upgraded version.

Cut my cable bill in half

When Spectrum / Charter increased my cable and internet bill to $140 per month I ordered the Roku stick. I have since cancelled the cable portion and only have WIFI. I signed up for DirecTV Now and have reduced my monthly bill to about $90 per month. (We wanted live streaming TV) The Roku has worked pretty good, we do occasionally get "buffering" message but not bad. If you don't care about live TV, you can get away with just the Roku. I'm going to purchase a new TV with the Roku built in.

I bought this for my son as he did not have cable. This little gadget worked seemlessly with his older LCD tv. It is also easy to take with you when you travel, so you can watch your favorite streaming shows on the go. We did find if it stayed on for an extended period of time (2-3 days) the device would get warm & the screen would freeze. But disconnecting it from the tv and power for a few minutes solved the issue. Now he makes sure he goes to the home screen before turning off the tv.

It' pretty awesome for streaming. I do wish there was some compatibility for Kodi but not much you can do there. Chromecast does win on that front. It's very user friendly and I would recommend to someone who wants an easy cohesive way to watch HBO, ABC, Netflix, Hulu, and a variety of other streaming sites. The roku does cutout sometimes and disconnect. Also, doesn't hold too many channels so be mindful of your space. Those are its limitations.

    Streaming for Time Warner Spectrum

I bought this device for older HD LED 55" TV without smart features. I wanted something practical and not obvious that it wasn't another device running wires up to my TV. The USB stick plugs into HDMI which is great if it is on the side, but the power cord is USB and must be plugged (which is yet another cord from the TV). The device itself connects to Wi-Fi and delivers quality HDMI but again it's streaming off of Wi-Fi so you may get some glitches, hang ups, or other remnants from using wireless. Overall, we use this for Time Warner Spectrum (must have cable subscription and account). This is great since a set-top box costs $10 a month over the life of the subscription and the Roku was just $40. I save money in just 5 months which most contracts are 2 years. But again, buying a bunch of these may not be practical if your wireless isn't great; adding a lot of devices will make wireless performance suck especially with game systems. Anyways, other built-in apps are great and the interface takes some getting use to since for instance Netflix doesn't look the same on mobile vs Apple TV vs Roku vs Microsoft XBOX One or Sony PS4 (etc.). I would recommend anyone who subscribes to a few services (Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, etc.) to get this Roku HDMI portable stick if their TV isn't a smart device (works as intended).

Price for the features it offers was good enough. It has several channels and a great interface. The only reason why I did not give it five stars was due to the android app which did not let me stream my videos from my phone as it would only play its sounds but not the video. Other than that it is a great device for the money and the set up was a breeze. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

We use this in our bedroom and overall it works fine. Occasionally, it will not be able to pick up a newly added channel from the website which is easily fixed by manually unplugging the stick from its power supply, then as it restarts, it does pick up the added channel. The only other negative is the wire from the wall plug that you can see hanging from our wall mounted TV.

The initial Roku remote unit would not pair with the Roku TV unit. A very helpful Roku on-line chat person helped isolate the problem and shipped a new remote to me. It paired properly. Since then, my Roku system has worked flawlessly. Very good user interface and lots of channels to chose from. I use Playstation Vue mostly. Recommend both highly.

This is my 4th Roku product and I recommend the brand to anyone. The products are easy to use and very reliable. I have given a 5 star rating to every other Roku product I have owned. The only reason this one gets a 4 star is the range in which it works. It seems to have to be close to your router in order to get the speed you need to stream. Even though the connection is excellent from distance it never got above 1.4 Mbps. Once I moved it with in a few feet from my router is went above 4.8 Mbps.

Easy installation. Great price. Best of all it has most, if not all, of the program options for streaming you'll probably need such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Video. The interface isn't exactly cutting edge and the remote's interface buttons require a lot of pressure to engage. Still, for $40 on sale, it is a really tough bargain to beat.

I primarily use this for travel so I wanted something small, versatile, and easy to setup and use. I own Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire Stick and for travel the Roku has been the best. Pros: small, easy to setup, connecting to hotel wifi is usually easy, plenty of channel content, smartphone app makes it the most convenient. Smartphone apps also creates a sound bridge between the streaming stick and your phone so you can use headphones. Cons: Some hotel wifi is a bother to setup and Roku doesn't make it any easier. Although there are so many available channels you have to sort through a lot of junk. You have to have a Roku account to set it up and add channels (but this is common). It's definitely a step up from the previous model and it's fast. The menu interface is clean and very easy to navigate. It's quite small and even if you forget your remote you can use it with your smartphone via the Roku app. Although it is a little more expensive than Amazon's offering I do feel Roku makes a better more usable product as the amount of content is much greater. If that content isn't enough you can even add Kodi to your travel stick.
