This SSD does not fit an Asus Z170-Pro motherboard! The motherboard's single NVME slot is right next to the SATA cable connectors, and the plastic shell of this SSD's heatsink makes it LESS THAN 1mm TOO WIDE. A shame. Other than that, it's a great SSD. High capacity, high read speed. Only $10 more than the non-heatsink version, so why not go for the upgrade.

This is a great drive at a very reasonable price to upgrade to. I am a PC user who upgraded from a Samsung 980 Pro. Samsung is a premium brand and its hard drives are no exception. I’ve used them for years without any issues and will only use select brands to store my data. I ran benchmark scores on my PCIe 4.0 motherboard against both the 980 and 990 pro. I did a clone copy of the 980 to create a test environment that was more evenly matched before running the tests, so the only difference is the amount of free space, which I had plenty on both. While I got nowhere near the advertised speeds posted by Samsung, they were still very fast. I almost never get the posted speeds by any hard drive maker, it all depends on your hardware setup. I do have a gaming rig, but far from cutting edge hardware. Unfortunately, the speed tests didn’t have a huge difference in speeds except for the sequential write speed which nearly got 2GB/s faster. The read speed was comparable and the 980 even beat the 990 in some areas. I ran the speed test for the 990 3 times and it would get more consistent as I ran it. I’ve attached photos of the benchmarks of both drives. If you do a lot of writing to drives or have newer computer hardware, I’d recommend going for the 990 Pro, otherwise saving you a few bucks for the 980 Pro will probably be just fine for you. Do keep in mind this one is the model that comes with a heatsink, which can cause issues when trying to add it to tight spaces such as laptops. My desktop motherboard chipset heatsinks in the past have gotten in the way before, so check you have clearance for a slightly bulkier hard drive. You can always go for the option without the heatsink.

Well worth the purchase if you value performance. Read and Write speed are outstanding. Heatsink does a pretty good job of keeping cool. LED light for operating verification is nice as well if running in a desktop set up. Would highly recommend. Yes a little pricey but well worth it for today gaming and pc performance.

SAMSUNG PRO Series is the best & most reliable. The heatsink fits perfectly and helps dissipate heat. The device is fast. Most importantly, when it comes to data, reliability is the most important attribute. You get what you pay for.

Ridiculous speeds, minimal load times on PS5. There is practically nothing wrong with how this drive performs. However, I would not recommend this drive to someone who cannot update the firmware, which requires a PC motherboard with an M.2 slot. There was a past firmware version that caused significant drive health problems, shortening the drive’s life by years potentially. If you can’t check/update firmware, I would recommend the WD_BLACK SN850X. All that said, however, my drive shipped with the latest firmware. It would appear that most of the problems have been resolved, but I would check the firmware to be safe.

Great product. 6,565 average read speed on my PS5. I got the 2tb 990 pro with heatsink. It was very easy to install. Once i got it installed you just turn on your ps5 and it will immediatley ask to sync to the PS5. I then transferred (10) games from PS5 hard drive to 990 Pro SSD. After transferring the games to the 990 Pro i still have 1.4tb of memory space left on plus almost all of the 825gb on the PS5. I think i could store close to 40 games which is plenty for our family!

Easy installation. Plenty of storage space with 2 tb. There is no reduction in quality or performance when playing games from SSD. Overall recommend to anyone!

SSDs are hitting the point of diminishing returns and the Samsung 990 Pro is no exception. On paper, this is a great drive. It has a built in heat sink, the sequential write and read speeds are well above the rest of the pack, and the size will keep you going for a while without needing to delete info. However, this is only part of the story and real world performance says spend your cash wisely elsewhere. The first part is will you need the heat sink or will it be a hindrance? On many modern PCs, the primary M.2 slot now comes with it's own built in heat sink. If that is the case for your system, then you'll need to give up something you already have for free, or you'll need to move this to a different slot which may not have a PCI-E Gen4 connection. For consoles, the heat sink will need to fit inside your gaming device, like it does for the PS5. If you plan on using this in an external enclosure, the heat sink will likely prevent you from installing the drive correctly and thus ruining your plans. Next we move on to the topic of speed. While this drive is great for sequential read and writes, it's random access falls short of other drives in its class, and that's not uncommon. Manufacturers will put in extra cache to improve sequential speeds on paper and then when the drive goes idle it will move items from cache to the slower parts of the drive. However, sequential access is more for moving large files in video editing or using as a dump drive for external media. For gaming, your best gains will be from random access as game files are almost never right next to each other. Even the best optimized games can only put some many files next to each other on a CD/DVD and when those get installed to a Hard Drive/SSD, all bets are off. This includes files being fetched for direct storage optimized games. And then there is the "will you notice factor". At the sequential read/write this is posting, it is unlikely that your SSD will be the bottle neck, and that is generally true of most high end M.2 drives. If the drive is your bottle neck, will the time difference of a few milliseconds of zone load time be worth the hit to your wallet? In many cases, probably not. With all that being said, this drive may have specific use case scenarios, and if you've got those scenarios, you're likely not reading this review. You've already made up your mind to buy it. For the rest, decide if you really need this drive or something with better random access. If you do need this speed, decide if you really need the heat sink. That money saved could be put towards your next game purchase.

Fast and I got it on sale so great price also. Only get this if it needs the heatsink.
