    The 21st Century Doorbell

The SkyBell Trim Plus Smart Wifi with Video is a great tech product that is easy to setup. It has an amazing picture from the doorbell camera and a microphone use two way communication. It also is a great way to answer the door without physically being at the door. The SkyBell makes this all happen. • Physically it was very easy to install. All I had to do is take of the old doorbell that expose two wires and put them through the plate hole in the center. Once the wires are exposed through the hole I attached them, one on the right and one on the left. Usually the wires are red and white as was my case and I had no trouble putting them under the screws. Then tightening the screws with the wires underneath so that the wires will not slip out. After that I put two screws through the plate. I just had to screw them into a wood part of my door. It is not hard to do at all. If you need to drill through concrete for the SkyBell to set properly, the drill bit, screws and their holders were provided. • I just wanted to mention the SkyBell doorbell looks like metal but is actually plastic. That is great for not getting rust. But that was a little disappointing when I think about the life of the product. It still looks high tech and I am overall happy with the product even though it is actually plastic. • The SkyBell doorbell worked perfectly after installation. The doorbell rang outside as well as inside the house. It was loud enough to be heard and was not shrill. • Now it was time to install the SkyBell HD app. I had not trouble doing that and setting up the app for connection wirelessly to the actual SkyBell doorbell. • Here is where I ran into a bit of trouble. Using the SkyBell HD app I was supposed to connect the SkyBell doorbell to my network on my Android smartphone. I worked for at least an hour on that connection. I still was not able to connect. The SkyBell ringer flashed red/green meaning it was not connected to the network. I was aided by the the SkyBell doorbell troubleshooting page. There were a lot of things I needed to do to try and connect with the Wifi. It was kind of like a going through a checklist that was very comprehensive. I appreciate the fact that just about everything was listed for whatever you problem you might be having. The SkyBell troubleshooting was great because it gave me directions on why I was having trouble. So in the very end when I had exhausted the options and double checked my work, I decided to simply take off the SkyBell doorbell and reinstall it. That made all the difference. So the SkyBell doorbell was finally able to connect to my network and the ringer was a solid green meaning it was connected properly. • Once everything connected, I was ready to use the features that the SkyBell doorbell offered. The camera is amazing looking in color 1080p. At night it even excels with color. I was very impressed with the area the camera covered as there was no place to hide for someone coming to the door. SkyBell also added a 5x zoom so you can focus on what you want and see better. • It has a motion sensor as the picture will appear on your smartphone before the doorbell rings. It is pretty sensitive though. Sometimes strong weather set off the motion sensor. But it is nice to have that option. • I was able to have two-way communication with the visitor at the door. That was pretty cool. I really like that feature. You can tell delivery people just to leave your package at the door without actually running to the door to see who is there. • I was also able to play with the SkyBell ringing just to my smartphone or the entire house. This is another great feature that enhances the experience of the SkyBell. • I didn’t use this feature but it is possible to record your visits at the SkyBell doorbell and save it in the cloud. I believe you get 7 days free of cloud space. If this is something you would like to use, you have that option. Overall the SkyBell doorbell has an ease of use with your Wifi, app and your the smartphone for viewing and two way communication. It is very easy to install and use. It is a protective measure of security and a high tech product that brings the doorbell into the 21st century.

The smart doorbell I didn’t know I needed!

Overview: The SkyBell TRIM plus is an alternative to other brands of smart doorbells, RING, Nest, Arlo, etc. These have become increasingly popular, probably due to increasing trend in delivered package thefts. I chose the SkyBell over other because they offer 7 days of free recordings, you can view or download your recordings for 7 days. Other smart doorbells require a subscription, for instance, RING is $3/month or $30 annually. Not that $3/month will break the bank, but with all the monthly fees most people have, (cable TV, Netflix, Hulu, cell phone…) who needs a fee from their doorbell? Initially, I wasn’t crazy about the design of the doorbell, it’s very contemporary and I wasn’t crazy about the “Skybell” letters on the doorbell button (they do offer an “oil rubbed bronze” version). One of the best feature is the LED and letters can be any color! In the app, you can go into setup to change the color. I tried to match the color of my bricks. Unboxing and installation: The package included everything I needed to install the SkyBell onto by brick wall. Screwdriver, plastic anchors and screws and a drill bit. I was surprised the included drill bit was for masonry, saved me a trip to the toolbox! I removed the old doorbell, re-used one of the existing holes and made a new one for the top of the SkyBell. Make sure the wires are tucked out of the way on the mounting plate, otherwise when you go to screw the doorbell on, it won’t fit in easily. I had to reposition my wires a few times, when you tighten the small screws, it tends to move the wire to where you don’t want it (see photos). Overall, the physical installation took about 10-15 minutes from start to finish, very simple. App setup: To complete the setup, I downloaded the app “SkyBell HD”. Very simple to setup the app, the app walks you through it step by step. Setup user name and password, connect to SkyBell’s WiFi and in minutes, it’s done. The doorbell should be a green color when you’re done, as opposed to the flashing orange and green. In the app, you can manage the following: notifications, chime, motion detection, speaker volume video quality and LED color. I can’t think of any option that I would like to have that is not in there. Performance: After 2 weeks of usage, I found the SkyBell works very well. I didn’t have any issues with it. My kids came home, rang the bell, I was able to speak to them via the app. The speaker is loud and they can hear me clearly. I noticed peoples faces come across a bit dark, this is 2:00 in the afternoon on a cloudy day. So like any other camera, it takes a second or two for it to adjust the exposure. If the person ringing the bell stays in front of the camera, the exposure will adjust and the dark face, due to the bright sunlight being behind them, will adjust and you can see their face. If they’re moving around a lot, like kids often do, it’s a bit tougher for the camera to adjust and their faces might stay dark. I found the motion sensor to work well and consistent, when we walk out the front door, it’ll pick up the movement and send an alert letting you know motion has been detected. The app allows you to adjust the sensitivity on the motion sensor, I have it set on “Medium”. Alexa app: This is where some of the criticism is, while it claims to be Alexa enabled, you can’t see the camera on your Alexa Show! The Alexa app can do things such as turn on quiet mode, take a snapshot, or take a video. I didn’t even bother enabling the Alexa skill for this. Hopefully they will add streaming video to Alexa soon. Conclusion I like this doorbell a lot, I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone shopping for a smart doorbell. I was chatting with a co-worker that owns a RING doorbell, it seems that ring app has a delay launching, comparing our apps side to side, both on an iPhone Xs, the SkyBell launches much faster. I was viewing live video feed about 2-3 seconds before his. A few seconds is not a lot, but when you’re waiting for an app to launch, seems like a long time.

I have been wanting to try something like this out for a long time, so I had pretty high expectations. My old doorbell is along a wall so it does not face the street just another wall, and its very low so I was a little concerned. I did not need to be. unboxing: wow they though of about everything to ship to you. The doorbell itself, drill bit and a screw driver are included (you will need to supply your own drill of course). There is so much packaging here, it wont be broken when you get it. I have a 15yo house with a standard doorbell, but if course both of my wires were white so I had concerns about which wire goes where. I got it right the first time. If you watch the video to install, its for the skybell hd not this but you will figure it out most likely. Setup: This uses the 2.4GHz, which is WAY over crowded with devices like this but I do have a guest account I made just for IoT things like this. From the app you select the skybell from your phone WiFi. It took a few tries to connect but it did. If you get a red and green blinking you are good. I got a fast orange at first. I went inside and talked to my roommate thru the app (press and HOLD the green button on the app). There is some delay but not too horrible. I tried the motion sensor, there is a several second delay to start recording (or to get a notification). That is enough time for a porch thief to get away with a package before it knows to record. I tried to wait for a firmware update, but cant tell if it has updated, or even what the latest firmware is from the app or website. I set my camera for 720 resolution and it works with on my phone with little lag. You can go up to 1080, but with this being on the over crowded 2.4 network you may want to see how it works for you. The colored light is cool, when you activate the camera it changes to a bright white I could see in my dark front porch very well. This does not work with Arlo, google, siri, or Yale so that is a drawback. I can get some Alexa integration but its iffy. you get 7 days of video storage for free (NICE), but you can not save it or download it for law enforcement or something like that. This is plastic, and I live in south central Texas. The website says up to 140 degrees, we will see how well this survives a Texas summer Pros: tools included pretty easy setup great picture little lag with my setup (picture of the connection status attached) wide angle to see the length of my front porch (pic attached) free storage, no monthly fees color night vision can take the hot or cold company says they will replace it if it is stolen cons uses congested 2.4 no integration with Arlo (would be nice is when the other cameras start recording this did also), no google or Siri, no Yale or smart lock integration. Alexa integration in limited. Plastic device, not metal, will see how heat and humidity affect this. you cant see who is at the door without them knowing or seeing the lights come on. You can not download videos the motion sensor has a several second lag and even with the motion sensor on high. It uses passive infrared, so in the Texas heat I wonder how well this will work. I waited to see if there were OTA updates, but the app does not say if it has been updated and I cant find firmware info on the website. Are there some buggy issues? yes. Can these be fixed in future updates? yes. This is a good product, its much less expensive than some other comparable devices with no monthly service fees. give it a try!

Perfect Video Doorbell also helps with Security

SKYBELL Trim Plus is a video doorbell that took less than 20 minutes to install. It is 4.8” tall, 1.44” wide, 1.13” deep and weighs in at 2.0 oz. It requires an 802.11 b/g/n, 2.4 GHz router with an internet minimum transfer data upload speed of 1.5 Mbps. Setup was easy with the SKYBELL HD app which I downloaded to my Apple Phone and used the IOS operating system. (SKYBELL also has an app for Android operating systems.) This video doorbell has all the features I need and more. Features include: Motion Sensor – The motion sensor has a detection distance of up to 15 feet. SKYBELL will alert your smartphone when a visitor comes to your door even if they do not press the button. Record Video & Photos – High definition video and photos are taken and added to an historical archive of activity that can be stored on your smartphone and/or on a free secure cloud database. Video has a 720p/1080p resolution and a 5x zoom technology. SKYBELL Trim Plus provides a full 180 viewing angle and full color night vision. I can see a visitor at night in full color HD. In my case the 180-degree viewing angle is limited to the left of the viewing as the door frame where I installed the video doorbell is set back and the brick veneer obstructs some of the viewing. Still I can see almost my entire front yard and all the way down the drive. On Demand Monitoring – Since SKYBELL is always on it’s very easy and quick to start a live video stream at any time. Two Way Audio – SKYBELL, with the use of the app, has the capability of a two-way conversation with any visitor at your door. Both a microphone and speaker in incorporated into the design of the doorbell. Silent Mode - The silent mode allows for the indoor chime to be remotely suspended and notifications of a visitor at your door come instead to you via your smartphone. Multiple Users – One of the best features of this video doorbell and the app is that multiple users and mobile devices can receive alerts and videos simultaneously. LED Color Options – There are two areas on the face of the doorbell that illuminate with LED color. The user has the option of changing the color by selecting their preference from a wide selection of the visible spectrum. Installation required removing the old doorbell and connecting the two wires to the backing of the new doorbell. I mounted the doorbell onto the door frame and because my doorbell is wired, I did not have to use the adapter that is required for digital door chimes. I followed the installation requirements of setup through the app and the doorbell worked on the first try. The only problem I had in the whole installation was tightening the bottom set screw to hold on the face of the doorbell. SKYBELL provides both a drill bit for brick and a small screwdriver. Since many of the parts are plastic and the screwdriver didn’t exactly fit the screw, I had trouble with tightening the screw to catch in a small piece of plastic that holds the face on the doorbell. The doorbell is weather resistant and designed for outdoor use. It has a 1-year warranty. The photos are crisp, and I can check on my front yard and porch without being home! The video doorbell is an asset to my home.

Easy Install, No Fees, Simple App

They SkyBell HD Trim Plus is a good, entry-level stand-alone video doorbell that is easy to physically install and fairly simple to configure on your smart device. There are no fees and all activity is logged with video or snapshots. Reviewed with Android app. PHYSICAL INSTALLATION There are no instructions in the box. Honestly, you really shouldn't need them. You can Google for helpful user videos and documentation. The only concern I had was whether or not the wires had to match up (i.e. red on left, white on right...or vice versa?). Either I guessed correctly or it did not matter. All the parts you need (including screwdriver) are included in the box Note: Skybell has several warnings about making sure you have "Low-voltage transformer (10-36 VAC 10 VA); and 10 Ohm/10 Watt resistor inserted between one wire from the SkyBell and one wire from the power source." I was replacing another brand's smart video doorbell and did not have to worry about the power source. Our original doorbell was installed in the middle 1990s. APP INSTALLATION Simple app. Requires you create an account. The app has 3 main screens: - Live View: Allows you to see your doorbell camera live and talk to anyone outside. Also offers quick access to doorbell settings. - Alert History: Lets you view (and purge) a log of doorbell and motion activity. - Account Settings: This screen also includes installation video link, FAQ and Support info. IMAGE QUALITY The image quality is good. There are settings in the app for image quality of: 480p, 720p (good), 720p (better) -- which is where I set my device, and 1080p. FEATURES The video doorbell has all the key features you need assuming you are not trying to integrate with a whole-house monitoring system. First and foremost, THERE ARE NO FEES associated with the SkyBell HD TRIM PLUS. You can quickly view live video from the app. You get a nice running history of activity on the app that includes snapshots and/or video of all motion detection and doorbell activity. You can talk to people through the doorbell. - Rename device? Yes - Add multiple devices to app? Yes - Notify on doorbell push? Toggle on or off - Notify on motion detection? Toggle on or off - Turn LED light off on device? Toggle on or off - Change LED color on device? Yes (infinite options) - Set LED brightness on device? Low/Med/High - Indoor chime? Toggle on or off (with a "digital on/off" option as well for digital doorbell chimes) - Outdoor chime thru speaker? Toggle on or off (with low/med/high volume options) - Motion detection? Toggle on or off - Motion detection sensitivity? Low/Med/High - Image quality? 480p/720p (good)/720p (better)/1080p - Night vision? Yes, color, and imo, decent quality - Cloud storage? Yes - Downloadable video? TBD - Speaker volume? Low/Med/High - Sharing? Yes, you can share your device with multiple people via email (Note: Request may end up in spam folder) - Integrations? Yes, IFTTT, Nest, Kevo (Note: Google Assistant let me add the device even though the app did not actively promote the option) CONS Very few. Notification to the phone that someone is fairly quick. I have experienced some lag with prepping the recorded video for the history tab. For example, I got an alert that the device detected motion activity. I opened the app about 15 seconds or so after the motion alert. Nothing on the live screen indicating motion. Looked at the history tab and there no history of motion activity prior to yesterday. About 60 seconds later, the screen refreshed with a 42 second video of the garbage truck passing through the cul-de-sac. Not a huge deal but also not "instantaneously available" history. I also glitched out on the viewing side while testing out the live video feed. Audio was solid, but occasionally the video would pixelate. Nonetheless, it did not prevent me from seeing who was out there or what was going on. There is no "web login" to allow you to view the doorbell from a website. Nor does there appear to be a Microsoft Store option of the app. I have not figured out how to get the video downloaded from my phone for archival purposes. It appears previous versions of the Android app offered download options. OVERALL I am very satisfied with the SkyBell HD Trim Plus after just a couple days of using it. The video quality is good, night vision is very good, wide angle is adequate, controls/options are aplenty, and the installation was easy. If I could give half stars, it would get 4.5 because of some of the "cons" listed above but from a functionality and features standpoint it is worthy of 5 stars. I highly recommend this device if you are looking for a no fees, stand-alone video doorbell.

Image quality not great for our situation

We have not had a video doorbell so we can't compare to the leading competition out there. We have had an Arlo camera system for quite some time and have been really happy with the image quality that system provides. Thus, we were disappointed with some of the results we achieved from the Skybell Trim Plus. To start with the positives, installation is very easy with video instructions available on the Skybell website. It's a nice plus that Skybell includes hardware and an installation tool kit to make the job easy for most any skill level. Once the hardware is installed, just wait ten minutes to allow the system to charge and then proceed to install the app and create an account. The app is easily understood and straightforward in how it works. Typical use would be for live video viewing or accessing the Activity portion to view recorded videos. We found the app to function well with some minor delay at times in pulling a live video feed. Settings are available in the app to change a variety of things such as turning off motion detection, modifying the indoor and outdoor chime, image quality, speaker volume and managing sharing. I find the feature to change the Skybell LED color rather cool and liked the shade of blue we settled on. One big positive for Skybell's system is that seven days of video and photos are stored free of charge to a secure cloud database or they can be downloaded to your mobile device. No subscription fees to incur which is great. The next big positive is the quality of night video which is clear and in color. The two way audio was satisfactory for us and the motion sensor worked well. The primary issue we found in our installation and thus the three star review was the image quality for much of the daytime video. Perhaps it is due to our home's eastern exposure and covered porch, but the video lighting looks very bright behind the subjects approaching our door and much darker around their face and body. The lighting contrast in daylight causes the video to not function as well for security purposes. Often, one could not make out the person's face well enough to identify who it was. As mentioned above, we did not have this problem with the night videos. Modifying the image quality setting to 1080p did not resolve the lighting/contrast issue either. Again, perhaps this is unique to our lighting situation with eastern exposure and a covered, front patio, but the bottom line is that we wish the daytime video contrast was better. In summary, if avoiding subscription fees is a big factor in your choice of video doorbells then Skybell Trim Plus is a good choice. If daytime video quality is the primary deciding factor I would likely opt to try the other leading brand in this category.

    Top video doorbell

This doorbell was very easy to install - just download the app and follow the instructions. The only issue I worry about is that the doorbell is held to a plastic base with a small screw on the bottom. It would not take very much pressure to break this plastic piece, which would result in the doorbell falling to the ground. I am amazed by what you get with no subscription. Initially I thought that I wouldn’t be able to download videos without paying, but I discovered that I could quickly download videos by looking at the activity, swiping left on the image/video, and pressing the download icon. In addition, the LED on the top of the doorbell can be changed to any color you like, which is a nice touch if you wanted to help people identify your door at night. Although I really like this doorbell, it does have some room for improvement. First, I noticed that there is a 2-second delay for recording. The problem with this is that if someone is trying to stay out of the path of the sensor, they could quickly cover the camera and prevent themselves from being recorded. Secondly, the error message “Stream could not be established” pops up frequently when I first open the app. I hope this is either because of my older model phone (1st gen Pixel) or that Skybell will fix this with an update. Lastly, I like how you can see color, even at night, but I noticed that a light color door trim (mine is a light beige) that is within the view of the camera limits its vision (see photo). I ordered a plastic wedge to solve that issue. Pros Can view/download recorded activity without a subscription Can use either a mechanical or analog doorbell Great picture with wide angle lens No false alerts (so far) Cons Frequent error message while loading app Night vision limited if light colored door trim is in view 2 second delay before video starts to record I would definitely recommend this video doorbell. It has a great viewing angle and a clear image. What won me over the most, however, was the fact that I do not have to have a subscription to download videos (as long as you download them within 7 days).

Thanks to Skybells excellent install videos (see app or search for it), it only took me about 5 minutes. They give you a nice drill bit and screw driver to help with the install. Setting up the app took a little bit longer than 5 minutes but wasn’t a problem. I love the fact that you can store for free videos in the cloud for 7 days then they overwrite. This is plenty of time for me. Video is VERY good, even at 420 as 720 and up live streaming is not that great for me do to my slower internet. But at 420 I can see across the street and whether it is day or night I can tell without issue who is on my porch or front yard. The Doorbell lights up and enhances faces and the area on my porch perfectly. I have mine optioned to notify me of motion detection on my porch, you can set it from low to high. On high it detected cars driving by and sent me a notification each time so I backed off to low and it only send notification when someone is on my porch. This product is a must for anyone that desires real time viewing of the front of your house (or back if you have it installed there) you can have multiple people logged in to your camera, all they have to do is get an invite from you and they can set an account up and be online in minutes. A very nice feature is the ability to change the light colors on your unit. And also the intensity or turn off the LED. Other features can be tweaked such as the volume, Notifications (button pressed or motion detect) Change chimes and image quality. The ability to have multiple Skybells is as easy as adding and syncing it to your account and naming the location. Overall I find this Video Doorbell to be a low cost, great option with an easy out of the box install and setup. It’s perfect for my situation and location. The hardest part of the whole deal was seeing what resolution to set my live stream video that would work best with my Wi-Fi. You only have 4 choices and it only took 2 minutes to get this setup. The only thing I would like to see as an added feather in the future is to maybe have the ability to zoom in while replaying video. I would not hesitate to purchase another one if I needed one for my back door and would recommend this to family and friends.

So I love the fact you don’t need to have a monthly or a yearly subscription like pretty much all other video doorbells. Only thing that would make it even better is if it had a micro SD card slot, so you could access your video immediately. So let’s start with the pros. No subscription, you can access your videos with free cloud storage and you can save them to your device. Easy to install, I had it up and running in about 20 minutes from removing the old doorbell, installing this one and setting it up on my network. Very good video quality even at night, by default it’s set to 720p, but can easily be changed to 1080p in the app. The App works great and there’s even an iPad version that’s not just a blown up iPhone app. You can easily change numerous settings and you have a rainbow of colors to choose from for the LEDs. Now the bad or not so good. Motion detection even at its highest setting you pretty much have to be within a few feet of it to detect you the majority of the time. So if you’re using to catch that package thief, it might not! Though the install is easy the bottom screw that you use to attach the doorbell to the baseplate, you need to be careful not to over tighten it or make sure it’s fully seated . If you do it can break the tab that holds the doorbell in place, they should definitely redesign this. Sometimes it shows “last capture” @ 4:44 for example and then when you go to your activity tab, there’s no video showing for that time. I think that’s more a cloud/account issue, with how long it takes to receive it. Overall, I’m very happy with it for how I’ll be using it. My primary need is a deterrent and also to be able to talk and see who’s at the door when someone rings it. If the motion detection was a little better it would definitely be a five star product.

THE BREAKDOWN: This product is another line of the ever growing video doorbell craze. It may cost a few dollars less than more popular versions of this product. It has the free storage which is a huge plus. All my testing was done with an iOS device/devices. The packaging was very well done. It was just enough packaging to get the product delivered. In the box was everything needed to get this product up and running. The setup was very easy and they even had a video setup. I already had a wired doorbell so my setup took less than 10 minutes. The app was really well done and it was a step by step process. The door bell itself is not metal it is plastic but they did a good job making it appear like a brushed metal. The motion sensor seems to be a little lacking for me. It worked sometimes and not others. I even changed the motion detection to high, med and low with still a hit or miss detection. The app has a lot of changeable features which as a tech person I love. One really cool feature is the ability to change the LED color on the doorbell. Very nice touch. The one thing that I did not really like was that this product doesn’t support the 5Mhz bandwidth (which would allow for faster speeds meaning higher quality video) it only works on 2.4Mhz band. The video quality was questionable at best for me. The 1080 did not work at all for me. I only heard the sounds and saw a black screen. The 720p (Better) image quality setting was a good image but was very laggy and pixelated. I found the 720p (Good) image quality setting worked best for me with only a little pixelation and laggy video. One note is if you do not hit the red button to disconnect the app will not load the next time you try and view the camera. The night vision was surprisingly good for me. The sound quality was just okay for me. On the outside at the doorbell you can hear just fine but it wasn’t clear it was more like a walkie-talkie sound. On my phone it was just okay almost the same sound as outside. PRO’s: -Very sleek and stylish -Super easy installation (if you have a wired doorbell already) -Lots of customizable settings for people who are tech mined -Night Vision was good -No storage fees CON’s: -Video quality is just ok -Sound quality is just ok -It is made of plastic not metal -No 5mHz bandwidth capabilities -Video does have a fish eye look -Motion detection was hit or miss SUMMARY: Overall, I feel that this product is overpriced for what you are getting. I would definitely spend the few extra dollars and get one of the more popular devices out there on the market. One tip would be to do your research. I think the cons far outweigh the pros on this one and feel that at this price point I would not recommend this product to a friend.

SkyBell - Trim Plus Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell - Wired - Brushed Aluminum. I have been interested in a camera doorbell for a while now. But I didn’t want a monthly bill to have cloud access and notifications. The Skybell has worked out very well and meets these two main criteria. Others have mentioned that although it says aluminum in the description its is actually plastic and I think this is a real shame. I think it would have been a much nicer device if it was stainless steel. I don’t think that would have added much to the cost and would have raised the build quality. It is hard to know how well the plastic will hold up over time. Might be just fine but only time will tell. I did appreciate that for my installation everything was included. There was one exception and that was the inclusion of a flat head screw driver. You really need a philips head screwdriver so why the flat head. I also had to drill into the brick since my existing door bell mounting was close but not quite the same. Lucky they also include the correct drill I needed and the actual mounting was very easy. I can’t say getting it to work on my Android phone fun was just as easy. The directions online were not correct and I had to call SkyBell customer service to connect to my phone and network. I was on hold for longer than I like but the good news was the support person was aware of the instructions being incorrect and I was sent a revised instruction that solved my problem. No one wants to call support for help but they did solve my problem on the first try and that is what was important. If you are having any connection issues, I encourage you to call support. It was a simple two wire install and I connected the black and white wires the same as in the setup picture and other then my connection issues everything installed just fine. The camera on this device is the highlight and it performs very well. I have other wireless cameras installed and although they have been in service for at least a year you do have to climb up on a ladder and charge the batteries every few months. Its nice to have a simple camera that is powered all the time. So, you have a pretty simple install, cloud support, notifications when its triggered, very good image quality and no monthly costs. There are not a lot of options in the phone app but it works fine. I would give the SkyBell five stars but the plastic build and incorrect online instructions that should have already been updated is enough to take a star away. Still this should be on your short list as the few issues I site doesn’t outweigh the good that is here. And no monthly bill saves me time and money and that’s a value you really have to consider when your shopping for a similar device.

I have been using the Skybell for almost one month and I doubt I would ever be without one again. Installation is simple, all the tools you need are enclosed including a masonry bit. I have a very close fit on a trim molding which I needed to fudge it over even further and it still installed easily. The fisheye lense was able to catch my entire front, even though the brick wall is fairly close. I read some reviews stating the motion sensor was not reliable. I had that experience also when I first got it up and running. I suggest calling customer service and they will push an update through WIFI they told me it would take hold in 24 hours and it sure did! Also check the level of sensitivity in the app. Now it captures everything, including the trash trucks on the street and wind moving the trees. It gets me every single time coming in or out. The LED light is nice, I like to match it to whatever HUE lights I have on indoors. The finish on the Skybell is perfect (brushed aluminum) you cannot tell that this is not metal. I wouldn't want it metal either. The App is simple, you can turn the motion sensor off, you can silence the doorbell inside. I can easily see who is at the door and take a picture, all the things you would expect it to do. What I didn't expect is how clear the night vision is. Motion sensors recorded an amazing thunderstorm that lwent all night, it was pretty cool and exceedingly clear. I really appreciated that Customer Service is always available, you may have to wait on the phone a bit, but you get to speak to a *real* human instead of filling out an email ticket and wait days or even weeks for a reply. Also, there is no monthly fee and a week's worth of video is long enough. I have way to many subscription fees so this is another reason I went with Skybell. Its very easy to download any video or whatever you want right away. I'm also happy that it will work in sub-zero temperatures as it doesn't rely on a battery, important because I live in Minnesota. The unit would be incredibly hard to steal the way it is mounted, but they also replace a stolen unit. Please go through the app thoroughly, get an update by calling Customer Service through WIFI if necessary. I feel this is definitely worth the price given the access to Customer Service, warranty, no subscription fees, easy installation, easy APP and very clear video. If it matters, these are made either in the USA or Mexico depending on the batch. I would buy this again.

Installation: Installation of Skybell ring was very easy, took me 5 minutes to do it. Setup: Setup went smoothly, Downloaded SkyBell app and followed the prompts on the screen and setup was completed in just a few minutes. Features: Device has some nice features such as motion detection, custom light color on the device itself, notifications alerts, option to disable indoor chime (very helpful to those with small children), and selective image quality (720p to 1080p). Performance: In my case I have been experiencing lots of problems with performance and connectivity of this device. Majority of time I would get "Stream cannot be established" or just plain black screen. Even in those few cases when I was able to connect (in about 30% of attempts) it took a little longer to display the video (10-15 seconds of dark screen then video), and audio would be cutting out of so you can't hear or understand anything, because you would hear only every 4th word in the sentence. Tried to test connectivity on both LTE and local WiFi but both gave me bad results, which is surprising because one of my mesh nodes is just a 7-8ft away from the door.

This doorbell is simple to install, works wirh your existing old doorbell 2 wires. Setup of the doorbell is easy as well. Simply download the app, create a account, connect to the doorbell, then connect the doorbell to your wifi. I like how this will allow you to see recorded events without the extra expense of a monthly membership. Video and audio was crisp over my S10+ phone and Galaxy Tab tablet. Just simply works well and lolks good. Id reccommend this Skybell video doorbell to anyone wanting to see who comes to your door. No noticable delay either over the app and wifi, better chance of that over LTE network.

Good Video door bell security camera minor issues

I had the chance to install the SkyBell Video door bell and it's going to change security for my house. When you open the package you get the SkyBell door video camera, base plate and hardware as well as a screwdriver. You'll tend to need more then what's provided to do the install unless you have an existing doorbell button that matches the base plate. The "brushed Aluminum" is more like faux aluminum, it's actually just plastic with a aluminum style coating. The door video camera itself looks good and is straightforward to install. ONLY 2 wires how simple is that? if you plan to install the door bell directly to a power supply you will need to use a 10 watt resister or else you can void your warranty. I installed mine with a door chime so I could hear it in the house. After the simple install you have to set up your Skybell door bell. This is where it was really confusing. I'm pretty tech savvy but the installation guide was a bit confusing to set everything up. I think Skybell could do a bit better in explaining the setup. Eventually I figured it out. The interface is pretty easy and simple to use. I did have a few times where the video failed to stream, not sure if that was because I was on mobile data or the Skybell itself. You can use the microphone function to talk to people at the front door and it's awesome now whenever someone wants to knock on the door I can instantly check or the SkyBell notify me of anyone knocking on my door. Overall, it's a good product but could be better.

We purchased this doorbell several weeks ago and love it so far! The doorbell looks great. It is not overly bulky like similar ones from Ring. The quality is good and the set-up and installation was a breeze. The best part of the whole thing is that the cloud storage is free and doesn't require an additional monthly fee like the Ring or Nest.

I was always worried about people who knock on the door, this is the perfect doorbell. It records HD video with a 180 angle with sound, easy to install took me 5 mins. It is also motion detected so I do not have to worry about it recording all the time. One of the great features I like about sky bell is they give you free 7 day recordings, unlike other video doorbells in which you have to pay for a subscription to watch the recordings. It also has great notification you can watch who is at your front door from anywhere, it will also play a doorbell sound on your phone if anyone rings the bell. There is also a watch live function and two way talk, which gives you a sense of security to communicate and watch if anyone is on your front door. I have used that feature many times when there were deliveries dropped off and no one was home. Overall will totally recommend, worth every penny.

Easy to install. Video quality is great. Wish it didn't have the distorted or fisheye look on the edge of the camera when viewing the video feed.I love that you can change the LED colors.

I have a stucco house and I didn't want to get anything that looked too noticeable. This doorbell is more streamlined and less conspicuous than most of the doorbells on the market. The camera quality is incredible, even at night. The app is very clean and easy to use. After researching and looking at all the doorbells from a visual point of view, I would have to say that I couldn't be any happier with this product and I would definitely buy it again. It has never dropped a signal either, I have a Nest for my sister's house. It's terrific too, but I would say that the skybell is a lot better and there aren't any monthly fees which is always a huge plus!

I had been hoping to get a doorbell video system for quite a while. I currently have several cams (from the largest online retailer that begins with A and ends with N) set up on a few areas. This doorbell cam will be used as a supplementary method of keeping an eye on my place that runs on a different network setup. Install was pretty straight forward. There are plenty of write ups and videos on how to do this online to I won't go into it here. If I can do it you probably can too. Super easy. Using the doorbell for the past few days it has worked well but sometimes been hit or miss. If I'm away from home and using my work wifi like I usually do it takes around 20 seconds for me to connect to the doorbell. Twice I connected to a complete black screen, yet I can hear the microphone. However, when I re-watched the encounter I was able to see everything and hear everything. Kind of strange but I will tweak my network and settings of the skybell to try and get that fixed since I'm normally on wifi while at work 8 hours a day. If however, I am on a good strong mobile signal it takes around 15 seconds to access the doorbell live vid and everything came in perfectly. There have been several times in the past few days where I have tried to access the live view of my porch and I received the error message that "Stream cannot be established." Normally if I closeout and re-open the live view, it works flawlessly but sometimes it takes a few tries. I would think that if time was of the essence this would be an important feature to have working flawlessly at all times. Pros- Camera quality is good. Mic speaker quality is good on both ends. Easy to install and connect to network. Motion detection set to low works well for me with no false positives. LED customization. Easy to use app. Cons- Trouble connecting to live view causing me to stop and try to connect again to remove error message. Black screen when trying to access the live view. Plastic housing looks/feels cheap and logo is large and eye catching. -Presentation- The outer presentation of the doorbell itself I personally think looks kind of cheap. I don't think there was a reason to have SKYBELL on the doorbell part of the device. It kind of looks gaudy. I think a minimalist approach would be better but it looks like that's how Skybell brands their products, but sometimes less is more. I'm not a big fan of the plastic design and feel they could have went with aluminum for both the bracket and the doorbell, but those are just my opinions. Maybe this is to provide a more affordable product. Ability to change LED colors is neat. -Camera quality- This looks great in my opinion everything from 720p up looks great. It is a fisheye effect so you can get a wider angle of view. I personally like that for my front porch but others may not. Even at night the quality is good which is reassuring to know. -Audio quality- Sounds good on both ends, my phone and the doorbell. Communication is fast and easy to understand on both ends. -Notifications- You can choose to notify in 2 ways. Motion sensor and by someone pressing the doorbell. You get a "ding dong" notification on your phone or tablet so you can definitely tell the difference in between other notifications and the skybell. My skybell faces the road of my culdesac and it is not triggered by any cars driving by. The motion sensor set to low does a great job and picking up when someone is walking towards my house and on to the porch. I appreciate this since my other branded cameras have 10 settings and I'm constantly trying to find the right setting to not trigger the notifications when the wind blows or a bee hovers near the camera. You can also choose to turn off your doorbell inside your house which parents with a napping baby may appreciate. All in all this is actually a good and useful doorbell if they can just get the kinks worked out on the live view errors and the blank video stream (which may be on my end, I will find out). If skybell could fix the connection issues I could look past the other cons. It does seem like another good tool to keep watch over your house while you're away.
