    Return & Exchange Promise is a Broken One

    I purchased an "excellent" rated open box Sony HTCT800 Sound Bar. I connected it via the HDMI ARC channel to my Sony Bravia TV and while it would turn on when the TV was turned on, it would then turn itself off within 15 seconds. I spent 2 1/2 hours with 3 different Sony technicians who took me through all the settings over and over again, resetting the TV, consulting with Sony engineering, etc before concluding that the soundbar was defective and needed to be replaced. I contacted the Greensboro NC store where I bought it to exercise the "refund or exchange" option which according to the policy applies to open box items as well as new items. The manager explained to me that since I got "such a good deal" on it he could not do an exchange for a new one, which to me seems to contradict the stated Best Buy policy. It is very rare to find multiple open box items of the same product in a store, so it seems logical to read the policy as stating that if my "excellent" rated open box soundbar is defective, I should be able to exchange it for the only exchange possible, a new one. But rather than keep a long standing customer satisfied and doing the right thing, Best Buy interprets their policy in a way that is to their benefit rather than the customer's. They have the power to make the exchange to repay for the inconvenience of all the time spent with Sony and of my having to return the item to Sony now for repair, but they chose not to. Best Buy will get no more of my business.

    Expensive a Junk that Geek Squad won’t support

    I spent a few grand on a new 4K UHD tv and this sound bar, paid for installation (into a large cabinet, mind you - not even wall mounting) and 2-yr Geek Squad protection. Unfortunately, I was at work during delivery and set up and came home to find husband allowed them to just lay the sound bar in front of the tv instead of mounting it above in the cabinet the way I had instructed. This blocked the remote for the tv, the remotes were not synchro, etc. to top it off, the sound bar completely stopped working one day. Has power but will not respond to the remote or the buttons and zero sound. Resetting hasn’t helped. Called,for geek squad to come out to repair it and mount it properly and found they will not do in home visits if the problem with your home theater is the sound bar. This was not what I was told at point of purchase. I was told to remove the tv from the cabinet to undo the connnections and haul the sound bar in to the store to have it looked at. At this point if I go to that bother, after all I have spent in the past 12 months, I would probably just throw it on the floor and walk out. So disappointed in the product and especially the lack of service. Was planning to add a 75 inch Sony OLED to the bedroom this month, and still will but not at Best Buy after this experience.

    Disappointed.

    I bought this a year ago and loved it for the amazing sound quality it had for this price point. The sound system had great range and a well balanced base. However, about a year in, the subwoofer died. I’ve done everything under the sun to try and revive it, read the manual to trouble shoot, and contacted Sony for help - to no avail. Apparently, there is a whole community of people that own this exact unit that is having this exact problem of the subwoofer spontaneously dying. Just google “subwoofer dead Sony HTC soundbar” and you’ll find pages and pages of people trying to fix their dead subwoofer. It’s also important to note that you can not buy a separate subwoofer to replace just the unit. You HAVE to buy the exact same one because the software connects the subwoofer to the sound bar. Bummer. I’m not saying this will happen to everyone that does own one. But it certainly has happened to a significant subset of us. Buy it with caution and at your own risk.

    Stay Away From This Sony Sound Bar

    I purchased this sound bar only 3 months ago and it has stopped functioning. I have tried the hard reset by holding down the vol - and power buttons. I have manually updated the firmware yet the issues persist. The sound bar will turn on but one of two things will happen: no audio will come out or the sound will come out but the audio wont be synched up with the video on the screen. On top of this, the system response time becomes very slow and the menu screen will not show up at all. This sync issue exists no matter what you are trying to watch on TV: streaming, cable, video games, all off sync. Troubleshooting the issues for the sound bar have also proved fruitless The only fix that I have found that seems to fix the issue is to return the product and avoid this line of Sony products. I will be following suit.

    Great Sound, Terrible Software

    My family got me this sound-bar for Father's Day. Worked great for the first few weeks. Then one day I started to notice an audio lag between the sound from the sound-bar and the video on the TV. Restarted the sound-bar a few times, which seemed to fix it. However, after that the sound-bar performance got worst. The sound-bar has a home screen for changing settings, that screen went away. Without getting to the home screen one cannot perform firmware updates or reset the sound-bar to factor settings. I did try resetting the sound-bar via a button combination, but that didn't work. This is the first Sony product that I had to return. The sound was great while it lasted. Unfortunately this model appears to be plagued by problems, other reviewers on this site reported similar problems.

    I own a Sony SC-CT550W. It was purchased about 6 years back. This particular unit can't even come close to the sound quality of that unit. I turned it on and connected to a Sony 4k TV. But after trying several different sound settings and modes, I couldn't get the crisp sound and soft bass that I get with the older unit. The sub woofer just makes a lot of sound, but not a good soft bass. The sound bar also didn't live up to my expectations for a Sony product. I am sticking with my old unit for now even if it can't do 4k.

    disspointed in sound and set-up

    I purchased the Sony 2,1 on sale ($299.99) after trying out 2-different Bose systems. I was hoping it would have the deep sound that I have been looking for. I was terribly disappointed when I finally got through their "Easy Set-up" 4hrs later, The new Samsung 4K/LEDUHDTV and the Sony wouldn't play nice together Guess the Samsung TV is not that smart. When I finally got them to sync, the Sony system didn't sound any better than the TV speakers. Do yourself a favor and save up the money and upgrade to 5.1 system.

    Greatly Disappointed

    I bought this product six months ago. Magnolia installed. Soundbar worked ok until about a week ago. Now the sound is badly out of sync with the picture. Following the manual's instructions haven't helped. Soundbar now also takes upwards of 5 minutes to start and shut down (used to be 1-2 seconds). Best Buy/Magnolia wants $150 to send someone to troubleshoot this defective device they sold me, half of the cost of a new unit and no guarantee of a fix.

    too many issues

    I was in love with the system at Best Buy. Bought it for the theater room. The soundbar has about 20 hours on it. Its 7 months old and it quit. It reads "Please Wait". Read up on it and its a common issue with Sony products. The ARC cable has fried something in the board. Best Buy said they are real sorry but cant do anything about it. I would need to send back to Sony. They also say they is not a way to reset the system.

    "Please Wait"

    This soundbar has serious issues. Lookup online "please wait sony soundbar". You will see tons of frustrated folks who have purchased this soundbar and it can't be repaired. Sony does not have a fix. On the brighside, they are apparently willing to buyback this unit because they know its has an unrepairable internal problem. This appears to affect many models so I would steer clear all together until they can fix it.

    Broke after 3 months, had repaired, broke again

    Purchased SONY Soundbar. Sounds good, but broke after 3 months. Pain in the A## to send for repair and wait 1 month. Got it back, it worked for 4 months, then same problem. SONY insisted on repair rather than replace bad soundbar. Had to send for repair again while warranty is running out. Terrible customer service.. I do not expect it to last much past warranty. DO NOT BUY SONY!!!

    Used this for 3 weeks and today it would not allow me to pair with anything. Am getting the "Please Waitc error noted on the message boards. Also will not pair with my TCL Roku TV we just purchased. Unfortunate because the sound is fantastic. I will not exchange for the same model as this seems to be a common malfunction with this model.

    So I just bought a brand new Sony 4k 65" TV and i was so excited to get everything up. The sound is not loud at all. I read the specs on this sound bar and a best buy associate told me it would work great. But it did not. The bass was not even powerful. It came with a subwoofer but it dident seem like it worked at all.

    it broke the second week we had it, it had to go out for repair which was covered under warrenty, but it stopped working again, they would not repair or replace it, felt I lost my money, would of cost as much to repair it as to buy a new one, only a few months old. waste of money.

    Within a week of purchase, it decided not to sync with my tv remote or my cable remote. It worked for 5 days, then it didn't. Tried everything to fix it and nothing worked. Sony customer support couldn't fix it and all but told me it was defective, as did Geek Squad.

    This soundbar sucks and I would not recommend it. Tinny sound and goes on ad off without warning, extremely hard to adjust and then quit working altogether so now I am stuck with a $200 plus soundbar that does not work!

    Failed within 6 months. After a week of calls / troubleshooting, Sony's only option provided to me is to return for refund. THEY WILL NOT REFUND TAX!!! Need to send back and check cut in 4-6 weeks. All told, close to 8 weeks for refund!

    Just stopped working while watching a movie. Could not get it to reset or reconnect to TV. It is unlikely i will buy another sound bar but if i do it will absolutely not be a sony.
