Never owned anything but Sonys. Never was sorry I bought one, nor was I ever sorry I bought any of them from Best Buy. The same holds true for this model. I kinda wished the XBR-70X850B I bought four years ago hadn't suffered from a slight degree of backlight non-uniformity, better known as the flash lighting effect, but hey, it's still a knockout. Sony said they'd work on it and they came up with "full array backlighting" on this set and indeed, there's no sign of backlight non-uniformity, at least not in standard mode, plus the black levels are outta sight. There's a side-effect however to this full array backlighting that at least gives the illusion of blooming, which most HD aficionados consider taboo, and it may be a bit much for you at times (though rarely noticed as far as I'm concerned). If you go looking for it, you might see it during rolling credits now and then or when your Blu-ray player and TV have gone into screensaver mode. I suspect this perception of blooming might be the side-effect of this full array backlighting, which at times is quite active and seems to respond in zones, each one appearing to influence perhaps 1/20th or so of the screen (just a guess), depending on content. For example, this doesn't happen in every case but there may be a spaceship traveling through a starfield whereby the blackness of space behind it appears less black because the backlighting zone is attempting to illuminate the spacecraft. As I said it's not terribly obvious and it's no big deal for me but it might be for you. I suspect the future is in OLED but till their big screens become affordable, this'll do for me. Better than paying much higher prices for Sony's Z series, at least for now, especially considering you'd have to go to a 100" that costs as much as a house to get the perfection you or I may be looking for. Understand, this is a very fine TV considering its size and affordable price, and Sony, at least in my experience, has always been very reliable.

The tv is phenomenal looking and Dolby vision is very good. It gets plenty bright in my darken dungeon of a living room. Being 85 inches really makes a difference even with me sitting away from the TV 13 feet and I'm coming from a 75 inch TV. Unfortunately, The first TV I received had a vertical line going down the TV that was visible to the naked eye even though it didn't seem to effect the picture . Now, before u say it, it isn't the pixels. It the actual screen itself ( see uploaded picture.) So, I sent it back and Best Buy came through with flying colors except for the week wait for my replacement, but its 85 inches and I know they don't have them lying around. Now, I got my replacement TV and it has the same issue with the vertical line going down the screen except its a little less visible unless you are right up on it . So, I'm fuming and now decided enough with dealing with the middle man/ seller Best Buy , after all they are just the seller and aren't the maker, I decided to call Sony and is now dealing with them directly. Maybe, Sony can least tell me if its the way the TV made or send me a better replacement . Once again Best Buy and their people did fine, but I'm just fed up with the wait and the panel lottery and think dealing with Sony , cause I've read where other buyers having Sony TV from other stores not named Best Buy with this issue, may solve this issue finally.

I recently decided to get into 4k and bought a Samsung Q8 TV. Coming from a Samsung plasma the motion blur on the Samsung drove me nuts. Also TV from DirecTV did not look very good. Some channels looked better than others but it actually looked like the picture was worse than on my 1080p plasma. I was told by many people that this Sony TV handled motion better. So I traded the Q8 for the X900F. Immediately after having this TV installed I watched a scene from a TV show on my DirecTV DVR that looked horrible on the Samsung and it looked just as bad on this TV. So it turns out that the issues with picture quality on the Samsung that were also prevalent on the Sony were the fault of DirecTV and not either television. 4k and regular Blu-ray discs look glorious on this TV. Colors are very bright, saturated and clear. However the major drawback to this television is the glossy screen. The front door to my house is on the wall directly opposite of where my TV is mounted. So on a sunny afternoon the windows around the door are reflected on the TV screen. The Samsung Q8 handled these reflections much better. Because I didn't find much difference in the picture quality between the Q8 and the X900F I decided to go back to the Samsung. The screen reflections ended up being the deal breaker for me. If you have a dark room that does not have light sources interacting with the screen then this TV will probably be just fine for you. It does indeed have very good picture quality.

    Outstanding Product!

This is one phenomenal TV! Picture quality is unsurpassed and the controls are very easy to manage. I did a lot of research on this product prior to purchasing and am not disappointed as I knew what to expect with this product. I was a bit concerned about the overall manageability of the remote (as it looked dated) but thus far it is performing flawless as well... so much for looks! One big plus is you can invert the stand (legs) if you desire the TV on a smaller platform. A few areas needing improvement includes addressing the 5G network performance as it is currently incompatible. I am also big into tweaking settings and do wish for a broader user spectrum. Also, the processor needs to be a bit quicker or perhaps the algorithms need improving (recently there was a update so this may be a mute point). Finally for a price tag of over $5K, this system truly needs better speakers. But in terms of this being a really good TV..it is just that, Really Good! My other contender was the new Samsung Q series, which is also nice and typically has a higher saturation of colors but the Sony provides a more natural color palette and is virtually the same in terms of specifications. I highly recommend the consumer doing their homework on a few reputable review sites, as this is a major purchase. I will add that the sales team and management staff at BB (Lake Mary) are fantastic! I am very particular and they answered all of my questions and were extremely transparent when it came to comparing this platform with others. I've never been disappointed with the team here! Good luck and I hope this helps.

I did a ton of research on 85 inch televisions before ultimately deciding on this Sony model. I truly hate to overspend on a product but at the same time as someone who loves to watch sports and movies I didn’t want to regret the picture quality for this purchase . I went into Best Buy to physically see and compare similar models but sometimes it’s hard because of the content they’re showing in the store is all hooked up to 4K shows and they all look great. Ultimately I decided on this purchase based off of similar reviews like this And understanding the technology that provides the picture quality. Fast forward I have had this TV for about a month and I couldn’t be happier with the purchase the picture jumps off the screen and the brightness is incomparable! I have a buddy who has an 82 inch Samsung and my picture quality is head and shoulders above his model. I hope this review helps others when deciding if the extra money is worth it.

I replaced my xbr65x850b with this xbr85x900f because I wanted a bigger screen. I also purchased the Sony HT-ST5000 soundbar. Now I would have HDR, Dobly Atmos, and Dobly Vision. Let’s start with the picture quality... I wasn’t impressed, not that it didn’t look good, because it did, however my old Sony TV was just as good. In fact, my older Sony looked better at certain times just because the screen is smaller and you notice less distortion and artifacts. As for HDR and Dobly Vision, I was able to achieve similar vibrant colors by just increasing/adjusting the colors on my old Sony TV. I wasn’t impressed with that either. The android interface is horrible. It’s so slow that it’s annoying. Sometimes I have to press the button multiple times just to get it to work. Google Assistant works but because of Android interface...it’s slow as well. and Alexa is very buggy.. I linked my Alexa echo plus and Alexa worked turning on and off only twice and now just doesn’t work, period. I have been a loyal Sony customer for a long time but I think Sony really needs to step it up. Especially when they are usually more expensive compared to their competitors. My next TV may not be a Sony if they don’t improve everything.

I went to Best Buy with the intention of buying an 82” Samsung that was in sale and cheaper than the 85” Sony that I ended up buying. I saw the Samsung and the sales guy went to go get everything together for my purchase. While I waited I sat down on the theater seats and this tv was on display. The picture quality was amazing and I just couldn’t help but switch over from the Samsung. Great tv amazing quality “affordable” compared to how expense 80”+ TVs used to be. This was outside of my budget by about $1000 but I have no regrets. My biggest issue was that this bad boy is obese, I don’t have any other large TVs to compare it to but he’s heavy. So make sure you have help when you’re mounting it..

We have been enjoying this Sony for a month now. We splurged when buying and paired with Bose 700 sound bar and bass module for complete viewing package. We are movie buffs and love being comfortably at home instead of in a theatre—this unit delivers theatre quality in the comfort of remaining at home. Basic DVD’s are enjoyable to watch and as we purchase new DVD’s will buy 4K ones which are phenomenal to watch. Controller is easy to understand as well as menus. We did mount tv on wall by BB (3rd party installers) and our recliners are straight in front from unit. Furniture on side has great picture viewing as well. We plan on years of enjoyment—have not gamed yet; know that it too will be fantastic! Highly recommend saving up to purchase this tv and sound system.

If you're looking for a set over 65", this is the way to go. And the 85" is easily the best value/bang for the buck set on the market, not even close. No, this won't beat an OLED in picture quality (I've had 2 OLED sets)....and if you're in the market for 65" or less, get an OLED if you really want the best picture, and are willing to pay a little more. But for 90% of content, this set is on par with the best ones out there.

We pondered 75" and the 850 or 900 series 85" and when we saw them all side by side, we did the 900 Series 85 without hesitation. More than we wanted to spend but Awesome TV with picture and features that blew us away. Magnolia team took down our old set and mounted and setup the new 85" with a new Sony 4k Blu Ray DVD in less than an hour. Very professional. We are glad we made the decision and glad we did it with Best Buy. AAAA+

I recently purchased the 85 850f and there was a lot blooming and i came from 75 940d so the pic quality was not to par.I was skeptical.of the extra 1k and Let me tell you huge difference in contrast color spend the extra cash this tv is worth it. Feels like you are immersed in whatever you are watching. I gave it a 4 as i am still calibrating. If you want a clear huge screen w color accuracy and can spend 5k on a tv this is the way to.go. I highly recommend this TV. The picture is brilliant. 4K content is lifelike. The TV offers multiple preset viewing configurations, so it’s easy to switch settings from watching movies to watching sports to watching animation. You can keep or get rid of the soap opera effect depending on your preference. Just read the instructions and you’ll get the most out of it. No dead pixels. Have owned for about 3 months and no issues yet.

This is a very good Tv with many features. To my knowledge, this is the only large screen tv with a headphone output that doesn’t mute the audio output when using the headphone. The remote is poorly designed. Small buttons that are hard to engage next to large buttons that easily engage. In my opinion, it’s designed for a child or someone with small hands. Backlighting would be very useful.

After much research and time sorting different televisons, I'm very happy with this model. In the 85" range, this is the best television for the money. I have this coupled with a Denon avr6500h receiver and a sound system. The Dolby Vision and Atmos is awesome. Only a few television will show Dolby Vision and this is one on them. The bravia sync does not work well with my setup so that is the only negative. The picture is top notch, no complaints.

Our 75 inch Sony XBR850D had problems so we replaced it with this 85 inch TV and we are glad we did. The remote is easy to use and navigate with, the apps and updates are quick and seamless to load, the Google microphone is a real plus for downloading more apps at the Google Store, and, most importantly, the picture quality is simply gorgeous. The Magnolia install team connected our other stereo components and was a joy to work with too.

At first I thought we bought a TV that was too big for our living room, but after an hour of watching TV realized that it was the perfect size. Can't even tell how big this TV really is until you put a 65" next to it. The color is beautiful and picture is very clear. Haven't watched any 4K videos on it yet, but I'm sure it will be better than going to the movies.

It's pretty much what I expected from the other reviews and from seeing it in the store. Very bright, great color. The picture falls off a bit when viewed from an angle, but still completely watchable. Bluetooth paired easily with my headphones, to watch when the rest of the house is asleep. It easily accepts commands over HDMI from my Amazon Fire TV Cube.

This big boy is worth the buy in my option. I have a 75" 4k, 3yr old model. This upgrade is noticeable in size and quality. Especially the black in HDR movies. Also sports look very nice. It's pricey but it's just nearly worth it without feeling you spent too much for a tv.

I first tried the Sony 75 X850 , it did not have a uniform black level. The next was the Samsung 82 Q6f sent it right back poor picture quality. The next I went for the Sony Z9D great blacks but motion was a big problem. I Finally went to the Sony X900F I can just say this it beat them all by a mile. Very satisfied , you cannot go wrong with this choice.
