Decided to upgrade our 5 year old compact camera which is mostly used by my wife. She does not care to use any of the multiple DSLR cameras we own, but I wanted a compact with many features found on a DSLR: - 1' sensor - many auto focus modes plus 24fps - exposure comp. and AE bracketing - 4K video - high ISO plus auto ISO as well as produces decent quality 800 ISO pictures - viewfinder - 24-70 mm which can be used well with viewfinder Excellent choice for my wife with mostly automatic settings including auto ISO covering most of her needs, but I have many other features which I have come to expect from DSLRs. Similar to other reviewers I would suggest a spare battery as well as the Sony - BC-TRX Battery Charger. Here is the first picture taken with the camera just using the factory default auto settings.

Great pictures out of the box and the capability of this mini-giant is a photographer's dream. A perfect complement to my RX-10.

Bought this camera for a trip in NY,it take really good pics but when you start to record videos the first 3 minutes the câmera already turned off with a message “battery exhausted”,so I don’t recommend for long videos.

Overall it is a great compact camera. Well built with a quick focus. The size makes it easy to always carry. Quality of pictures and 4K movie capability are also great. Except the $1000 price, the camera is one of a kind in its class.

Needed a quality point and shoot that takes great pictures. I found it. The RX100 V takes amazing images, easy to use and built solid. I didn't get as many pictures on one battery charge as stated, however I turn the camera on and off very often, so I know that impacted the battery performance. Carrried an extra battery and it was fine. I always use the wrist strap, because the camera is so small and feels like it could be dropped. Not an issue if you hold the camera like your not afraid of breaking it. It's a tough little camera in a small package that takes amazing pictures. The camera is not cheap, but I think it makes up for that with the Sony quality. I recommend the camera and would buy another one in this product line when needed.

The Sony RX V has got to be the best point and shoot currently. It has great quality and is super light and portable. However, battery life is not the best when shooting in 4K. Overall a great camera!

This camera has the best image quality of any point and shoot I've ever owned. It works well in low light and the 24 frames per second is ridiculously amazing. It makes it where you are almost guaranteed to get the perfect frame. Buy an extra battery if you plan to use it a lot between charges because it will burn through batteries but it's so worth it to have images as good as it produces in a pocketable camera. I wish it has a little more zoom but then it'd be more expensive and overall larger to keep the 1.8-2.8 apertures available.

Unfortunately I opted to return this camera and may circle back later. Pros: >This will record in 4K >Closing viewfinder will still keep the camera on (vs. III which powers down) >Viewfinder has diopter adjustment (robust and clear) >Ability to customize settings (go to YouTube) >Auto focus Cons: >User Manual needs to be secured on line. Quck set up lacking. >A bit on the heavy > Difficult to grip with one hand; should use accessory grip (or third party) to be added. In my opinion, accessory grip should be standard. Sony A5100 has this as integral part of camera. >No standalone battery charger >Internal mic; some how there should be a means to include plug in or sync so don't have to have a separate audio recorder and having to post edit.

I bought this camera to be able to carry it around in my pocket and record 4k video. It records great 4k video but overheats after 5+ min and runs out of battery in 10-15 min. Plan to get multiple extra batteries and to take breaks between. Recording 5 min 4k video clips. Great vlogging camera. Low light pics and video are amazing. Time lapsees are amazing but you have to buy a separate $10 app to use timelapse. Which seems like nickle and diming after paying $1000 for the camera

With its menu layout that is different from what I’m used to, I am still getting acquainted with the Sony RX100 V. I am impressed with the capabilities of this camera. Its 21 mp sensor and maximum 1.8 aperture allow for sharp photos even in challenging light conditions. And its portability/pocketability make it a go-anywhere camera that takes great shots without compromise. I look forward to growing more adept with this neat little Sony!

...either your DSLR ...or your iPhone/S7 or smartphone, and it's camera, of choice! I owned the first and second version of the RX100 and they're still working well and never an issue or repairs needed. It's a special camera to be sure. I'm fine with the menu system and the way Sony has laid their options out for many years. That said, a camera like this and with the 'power' and potential available... I'd happily take a 30-50% increase in mass to allow a more functional 'rear end' - with the addition of another control wheel or joystick and possibly another option for quick access to common settings to change while shooting. I've missed a few shots because of this but I blame me. I'm aware of the 'cons' (the extremely few that exist) and I should've anticipated, set up and would've been able to get the shot. I own a 5d mk4 as well, the original 5D before that as well as the first Canon 7D and recent upgrade to the mkII My wife, son and I love the outdoors and photography/videography is the perfect compliment to a day or a week in the woods of Alaska! We all enjoy photography and video capture as hobbies and have recently learned to fly drones for a ver y cool perspective. As owners of smartphones (we're an Apple family and prefer iPhones) we often shoot with them and using or carrying the RX is nearly as convenient as throwing a smartphone in the pocket - but it's shots and it's abilities with both still and motion capture are as extensive as any DSLR. They're just tough to access at the right time sometimes. I've owned the model long enough to realize those special shots are best 'grabbed' using 'auto' or program as the intelligence of the ISP is phenomenal!! Awesome captures from auto mode and easily one of, if not, THE fastest camera I've ever shot! In some of the fastest modes - you'll sacrifice resolution but not at the silly speeds advertised. They're REAL!! I'm floored sometimes with the speeds and tend to shoot with a lower setting as just a ½ second click'll net ya a dozen shots! Lastly the video capture is unbelievable quality for this small a package. The one inch sensor is massive in comparison to the current smartphone offerings and most small point and shoot cameras. Hence the expense. It's not cheap and if it's great photos you're after the V2-v4 models are still exceptional. And available at a LOT less cash. But I'm seriously impressed with the upgrades and continued bright lens and ability awesome files I'm continually getting from the camera and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to a beginner or professional alike as it's a lot lighter than the 5d4 w/70-200 and associated gear - yet the right conditions allow for 90-95% of the quality of the $5,000 DSLR -- and it fits in any pocket!

This is a great camera, perfect when I don't want to take my sony mirrorless. It's perfect for travel. The onboard mic works really well and has lots of features DSLR and mirroless cameras have. only cons I can think of are: overheats when using for long recording in 4k battery life is short no touch screen

Used this on a recent trip and the video is amazing. Battery runs out quick due to 4k. Make sure to get extra batteries. Has more shooting modes and better auto-focus than Canon G7X Mark 2.

I wanted something less bulky than my current DSLR but yet is very capable. So I decided on a compact. Compacts have come a long way over the last few years and the Mark V is a great example of an extremely capable compact camera. The picture quality is superb and has a plethora of features you normally only find on high end DSLR cameras. What really distinquishes the Mark V from all other current compacts is the 1" sensor with phase detection autofocus. It's currently the fastest and most accurate autofocus on the market for a compact (as of this review) and competes with high end DSLR cameras. If you're a pro currently using a DSLR and looking for an excellent compact to supplement or even replace your DSLR you should definitely give this camera a good hard look. And for the novice or experienced photographer that wants a camera that's less bulky yet easy to handle and operate but are not willing to sacrifice picture quality (like me) then this just might be the camera for you if it fits into your budget. I'm very happy with my purchase and look forward to many years of enjoyment with my Mark V.

I love this camera without a doubt but there are some pitfalls that hopefully Sony will address. One would be the focal length zoom could be better, two the lack of a touch screen reallly sucks for a $1000 camera, three would be the poor battery life when shooting video. Aside from those faults the camera is about 2 1/2 times as good in detail than my iPhone 7P. If you need a great point and shoot that has more manual controls than your phone and you want top of the line at the moment this is it.

I needed a camera that could get me super sharp pictures even in low lighting that would be superior than my camera phone. This is the perfect portable pocket companion. Not only for stills but for high resolution videos as well. Having the pop out viewfinder is great when you are in a very bright area making it impossible to see the LCD panel.
