I do feel like there is a lot to learn before I get really good pictures with this. I had a Panasonic LUMIX compact zoom years ago when they first started making them (2006 or so?). I feel like I was able to get good pictures on auto without knowing what I am doing. This one I feel like I am going to have to take some classes to get good pictures. It could just be that my subjects have changed from flowers and dogs that would stay on command to a busy toddler, but I am having a hard time figuring out how to get good (not blurry) pictures. I had eventually planned on learning more about photography so had wanted to get something with a decent zoom that I could use now on auto and that would have settings I could learn how to use later. I don’t want to take too many stars off since it is probably still a really good camera if you know how to use it. I don’t know if I would recommend it, but an experienced photographer probably shouldn’t be looking for my recommendation.

Ridiculous. 2- the screen is not touch screen. 3- and ridiculous how the video recording button is tiny. Why isn't it on top like the ZV models? 4- the camera, even though it is compact and super heavy, is not easy to hold. 5- the mode change is super hard to change. 6- there is no accessibility to the inputs, super difficult to open, there is no easy access to open with your fingers and you need to use something thinner than a knife to open it. Don't buy. Super disappointed with the product. I got the Sony ZV. However, ridiculously, it didn't have a flash and there were no other options to open the screen. I tried to exchange the RX100 v11 for this one and paid more for it. Now I'm angry at how slow and difficult it is to use on my cell phone. Bluetooth never works.

Make sure the timer for the view finder is on at least a minute or more other wise it will switch off. The daisy wheel allows you to control F stop and shutter speed. Camera had an issue focusing in bright inside light. Also not the greatest with low inside lighting. By the way this was a display model I purchased at significant discount. No documentation or battery.

Expensive but Incredible

Basically, this is the best pocket camera on the market today. It's very expensive, and it's frustrating to me that Sony keeps the entire RX100 product line available without substantially decreasing the prices of the old models when the new ones come out. Instead, the new ones just cost more. But, it is an amazing camera. It takes excellent pictures for when you don't want to be carrying your DSLR, or can't (i.e. concerts). But the most incredible thing for me is the eye auto-focus. It is fast and accurate. It's a game changer.

Last of its breed?

When conditions don't allow for a full-size model -- we have both a DSLR and a mirrorless -- a high-grade point and shoot like this one is perfect for the job.

Yes, cellphone cameras are getting better nowadays because of the technology advancements, but I agree with you that it still is different with a real camera. With the camera's compact and light weight built, and the features and capabilities that you don't get with a cellphone camera, I'd really go with a real camera as you have mentioned.
