Love the compact size & quality for a small sensor

As an owned of many Sony Alpha cameras, I don't want to lug around a full-frame body to concerts I'm enjoying or vacations I'm taking. I don't know that I'll ever be satisfied with photos from my phone, so this is how I meet in the middle!

Amazing pocket sized camera

It fits in my pocket and is still really powerful. It’s not completely terrible in lowlight and I love that it comes with a viewfinder.

Terrific for travel!

It's extra small and lightweight...the perfect all around camera for travel when you don't want to pack a bunch of heavy equipment. You won't be disappointed. Although it's a bit on the expensive side so I have rated the value down a notch.

On the other hand, there are very few truly pocketable point and shoots that can do what this little camera can do. Nice telephoto and shoots both photos and video. Has a small built in flash. Works well with separate Sony shooting grip GP-VPT2BT with internal bluetooth connection.

Small but mighty addition to the camera quiver.

It does everything my old Rebel from last century does but without the extra lenses.

The RX100 is a high-end point and shoot camera

It takes sharp pictures with brilliant color the Zeiss zoom now reaches 200mm. It has a touch screen and there is a pop-up viewfinder if you want to use it. Both focusing and writing to memory card is fast. This is the seventh iteration - hence the VII. It has evolved into a superb camera. Some dislikes: it came without a handgrip -why? Sony probably saved 2 cents on each camera and I looked at two $20 addons that weren’t satisfactory. It’s tough without the grip. Small and slippery like a bar of soap. The little doors to access USB etc are cheap plastic junk-very easy to snap off. NO RAW (!). Sony menus are not intuitive. The on/off button is recessed but is easy to turn on when you put the camera in your pocket. Needs a safety or lock. If accidentally activated in your pocket the zoom tries to open.

The fact that it has the pop up viewfinder, flash and the screen that flips up makes it the obvious choice among the competitors. Great image quality in a small portable body!

Good travel camera

It can produce high quality pictures and video. Get an extra battery or two if you plan on a lot of video. Zoom and focusing features make it a great camera. Get the leather case it makes carrying the camera easy.

Disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.List of disappointments with this camera. 1- new version, but does not use the new version of USB-C. Ridiculous. 2- the screen is not touch screen. 3- and ridiculous how the video recording button is tiny. Why isn't it on top like the ZV models? 4- the camera, even though it is compact and super heavy, is not easy to hold. 5- the mode change is super hard to change. 6- there is no accessibility to the inputs, super difficult to open, there is no easy access to open with your fingers and you need to use something thinner than a knife to open it. Don't buy. Super disappointed with the product. I got the Sony ZV. However, ridiculously, it didn't have a flash and there were no other options to open the screen. I tried to exchange the RX100 v11 for this one and paid more for it. Now I'm angry at how slow and difficult it is to use on my cell phone. Bluetooth never works.

excellent point and shoot camera

I did a ton of research and landed on the Sony RX100 VII. It's really easy to use if you're familiar with Sony's menu. I love the zoom range of the lens. The only drawback is it's really small and somewhat harder to handle such a small camera.

A very well made, compact, capable camera.

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This is a marvelous little jewel of a camera- it fits right in a shirt or front pants pocket and takes really nice photos and video. The autofocusing for both videos and photos is quick and assured; the camera knows to look for eyes to focus on if there are people in the frame, which helps ensure sharp focus. The camera also has a built-in flash which can come in handy on both super dark and brightly sunny occasions, and you can (somewhat cumbersomely) transfer your pictures to your phone for sharing. The camera can be fully automatic or fully user adjustable (I recommend setting the camera to S (shutter) mode at 1/125 second for social snaps to avoid blur from subject movement). I wouldn't bother to bring anything beyond this camera and my phone on vacations anymore unless maybe I needed a more extreme telephoto ability (perhaps on a safari or something like that?). Its price definitely puts it in the luxury category, but I do feel that you get reasonable value for money.
