Absolute monster of a lense. Crazy Bocah. This lens lets in so much light that I had to shoot at very high shutter speed (4000-8000) and minimum iso to use it at 1.4 on a sunny day. The attached photo is an example of that. (Had to compress it to attach here)

If you are looking for the best upgrade you found it. If you are just getting started or just a photography enthusiast theres other Sony/Not Sony alternatives that get the job done.

Overall, the Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM II is a standout lens: it makes major improvements over the original 85mm GM in sharpness, autofocus, and manages to shave off size and weight, while retaining excellent bokeh and optical quality. It’s not perfect, and comes with a high price tag, but for many working portrait artists or content creators, it feels like “worth it” if you can stretch the budget.

As a professional wedding filmmaker, I’ve worked with many lenses over the years,but the Sony 85mm f/1.4 G Master is in a league of its own. From the moment I mounted it on my Sony body, I knew this lens was special. The image quality is breathtaking. This lens is superb. Lighting quick autofocus, super sharp, beautiful bokeh. It’s also relatively lightweight for a fast 85mm. Definitely a big upgrade over the original 85 GM, and the best 85mm in the Sony lineup.

Wow. Best lens ever. This and the 35gm combined is all you’ll need between landscapes and portraits.

So far so good - lens is expensive, very expensive - but it's ability to quickly acquire and lock on to a moving target (critical in sports photography) is excellent.

This review is for Best Buy. I pre-ordered this lens with Best Buy because they told me that it would arrive on the same day of launch. Not only did they send it late, but now the stipulated late delivery day didn't arrive either and neither they nor UPS know where the package is. The next step they offer me is an investigation and longer time to receive the lens if I receive it. Thanks to the inefficiency of Best Buy I lost some projects that I had to do with this lens specifically. My recommendation is that if you depend on a pre-order product, look to buy it anywhere other than Best Buy. They definitely don't have any more business on my part.

My experience in purchasing Sony cameras and lenses with Best Buy has been great. Furthermore, Best Buy offer GREAT 0% finance options that would allow you to build your lens arsenal in no time and at great terms. In a new launch there will always be hickups. Expect delays. True that the Sony 85mm F1.4 II is a great improved lens .. but if I am a professional photographer i have many similar options in my Lens arsenal . I would not lose a contract because the lens did nit arrive… PLEASE... I would have used an alternate lenses. As we all have .. ask for a 10% discount or ask for a 24 month vs 12 mo 0% finance … enjoy the lens .. its is GREAT but there will alwaus be a better or NEW one. Add to this total tech and get 2 year full warranty (includes accidental damage) an no additional cost … :-)
