Customers enjoy the graphics, gameplay, combat, and music in Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness. However, some find the story and camera to be problematic, with a few also mentioning issues with voice acting and the need for excessive backtracking. The game's world is described by some as uninspired. While the price is considered reasonable by many, several aspects detract from the overall experience for some players.

Great game with some shortcomings

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is a Japanese RPG that may be missing a few features, but it is still a great game. The battle system is fantastic, where you control one character and have all others controlled by the AI through the use of Roles. The graphics are top-notch and while there are a few sour notes in terms of voice acting, the main cast is exceptionally well. It may not be a long game, especially when compared to Star Ocean: The Last Hope, but it still provides hours of entertainment, with the main story being a good 25-35 hours and there being a lot of sidequests and even some optional dungeons to uncover. One of the bigger annoyances is the camera, with it being a bit jittery and requiring the sensitivity to be turned down.

Star Ocean V was a good game that certainly could have been great, if the developers had put more money or time into it. Having only played Star Ocean The Last Hope, and loved it, I was excited for this game to come out. When I finally played it, it was a bit underwhelming. Cutscenes are very few in number; instead, I received most of the story dialogue through a view of the characters' backs as trying to work the camera was cumbersome at best. Be prepared for A LOT of backtracking through the same areas. After a while, you get used to it, and accept the fate. Also, the side quests lack meaning for the most part. It's a lot of fetch quests for the sake of adding extra gameplay time. It may sound like I did not like the game, when in reality when I stopped comparing it to the previous game, and explored the fun battle system, the game was good, just not great.

Star Ocean isn't exactly a top-tier RPG, but it is definitely a solid one. The battle system, character design, and soundtrack are quite good. I just wish the story was a little better.

Game play is good in general. Plays a lot like other JRPG's such as Tales of series. But then you get to a point where even if you had been level grinding a bit it's not enough and the boss will one hit KO your entire team (playing on hardest difficulty). That said, graphics are ok, especially love the scenery and world itself, decent music, haven't gotten far enough to say whether or not Inlike the story line. Overal good RPG.

Having played 3 and 4, this one is alot of fun. The battle system is very simplistic easy to get into. Looks great on PS4. Tries to have a AI system similar to Final Fantasy 12, but it is no where as complex or beneficial, AI regardless of adjustments seems a little mindless.

Very good Jrpg

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is a very good Jrpg. The combat has gotten better now with all party members able to participate int the battle. Now it would be more tactical with a rock paper scissor system instead of mindless art spamming. The story is on the light side but it is still better than what you would find in a typical jrpg. What it lacked was the cutscenes. The cutscenes was minimal and it would make the presentation of the game better and enhance the story. Without this critical step the story does not have the same punch as would otherwise. With the cutscenes I would have given this a 9.5/10. Without it is 8.5/10. I played majority of star ocean games and many of the Tales games and this one is one is a very solid game.
Pros:
Better battle system
Better graphics
Cons:
Need more Cutscenes

I'm a huge fan of the Star Ocean series but this has got to be my least favorite. It seems like a game that was abandoned mid way but still released. Cut scenes look cheap and rushed (and also are un-skipable for multiple playthroughs) and the battle system, while visually appealing, turns into button mashing and move spamming. The main story is only about 25 hours, and the post game content is painfully repetitive. Thankfully their laziness affected the new battle trophies and side quests which were at least easier to obtain and complete this time around. I'd buy again, but only because I paid $20 for it. Side note: I did receive the day one edition, I saw questions asked in the past about this.

I'm about six hours into the game. Initial impression is very good. Story is starting to become very interesting. Environments are more varied than I had expected, and the graphics are better than I anticipated. 60 fps is really nice, but almost too fluid at times. Zooming the camera out helps. Voice acting also exceeded expectations, and the soundtrack is fantastic. Combat is fun and doesn't feel like a chore so far, and the combat/skill system is intuitive/easy to understand. Pacing is excellent, especially for a JPRG. Go for it, even if you're mildly interested.

So I'm biased. This is a Jrpg so be ready for Japanese anime troops and characters. The game play is fun but the environments are a little boring. Music is good and the story is decent. If you're not a huge Jrpg, star ocean or anime fan, wait for a price drop. Totally worth is at $30 or $20 price level, especially with GCU. I'm saying yes to the recommendation to a friend, but like I said above, I'm biased and I know my friends like this type of thing. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to a stranger at full price.

Sometimes a series, no matter how beloved, will end up seeing a few entries not seen in the west when they either don't typically sell too well or never find their niche. It's a tough market to penetrate for Japanese developers when everyone is, for some reason, content with yearly installments of the same games that could easily be patched with new content instead of having brainwashed consumers re-buy the game they've played over and over again only under a new subtitle. Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness sees Square Enix giving another shot for the series by localizing one of the longest running RPGs to take players on a new adventure in the Star Ocean universe. Those looking to invest some time into a JRPG that does things a little differently will find a lot to appreciate with Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, and will find themselves quickly invested into the story and brand new mechanics implemented into the new entry. Since it's been out for a while now, for sub-$20, you're looking at a game well worth the time and wonderment for the price being paid.

The gameplay and graphics are obviously better than the previous game Star Ocean: The Last Hope, as its on better system. However the game itself was kind of dissapointing. As its called Star Ocean you would expect space travel like the previous installment in the series. However there is none, the entire game takes place on one planet with alot of back tracking. The battle system has been simplified to the point of being kind of boring. It seems like they took away all the elements that made Star Ocean The Last Hope awesome and just threw together a game with what was left. Its just your average one planet RPG now. Also all the monsters are pretty much exact copies of those found in The Last Hope. I mean the story is alright I guess but not as exciting as The Last Hope, most likely due to the lack of spacetravel and species diversity. Would I reccomend? Yes but if you are a fan of the series then prepare for some downgrades.

This is your typical JRPG; Star Ocean is an established franchise and this game in particular is very well made. It is a wonderful game for any JRPG fans out there and for anyone who is interested in getting into RPG's or just anyone who enjoys a good story to go with their game.

5/10 An uninspired and Cliched RPG

Star Ocean 5 is average in just about every way. It has a cliched story with very by the numbers characters. It's not horrible but it's just barely interesting enough to want to play more. The graphics look like something from 10 years ago. The game has a distinct lack of cutscenes due to budget issues meaning most plot development is from boring walking scenes rather than well directed cutscenes like most modern games. The best part of the game is the battle system but the game is just very repetitive. Honestly there are much better japanese RPGs out there to choose from like Final Fantasy, Persona or the Tales of series. Star Ocean 5 is very average and is only worth it if you get it for cheap or are really starving for a PS4 JRPG.

While not the best star ocean game out there, I still found this game entertaining and really enjoyed the new battle system. While it is still shorter than most games in the series I think the length was perfect for the story being told.

My intro to the Star Ocean franchise began with Til the End of Time. I'm only mid-way through this game and I absolutely have fallen in love with this game! It really remind me of Til the End of Time; similar music, signature moves, enemies, etc. If you loved Til the End of Time, you'll love this one! Graphics are stunning (I play on a 4k tv, while the game isn't native 4k, the tv upscales). So far, so good!
