We recently upgraded to the TCL 98" QM9K, and it has completely transformed our home theater. At this size, picture quality matters, and the QM9K delivers in a big way.
The brightness is phenomenal, HDR highlights really pop, and the Mini-LED local dimming does an impressive job with contrast and black levels, especially for a non-OLED display. Colors are vibrant without being over-saturated, motion handling is excellent, and sports, movies, and streaming content all look fantastic. For a 98-inch screen, the image remains sharp and immersive even at closer viewing distances.
Google TV runs smoothly and is easy to navigate, and setup was straightforward. We paired it with a Sonos soundbar via eARC with no issues. For a screen this large, the panel uniformity and build quality are excellent.
The biggest takeaway is value. At this price point, it’s hard to imagine anything else that competes with the QM9K’s combination of size, brightness, and overall performance. Comparable models from other brands are significantly more expensive.
Huge credit to Best Buy and Geek Squad as well — delivery and installation were included, professional, and stress-free, which is no small thing when you’re dealing with a 98-inch TV.
If you’re considering a true big-screen upgrade and want flagship-level impact without paying flagship prices, the TCL QM9K is an easy recommendation.

Impressive blacks with a nice finish. The zero border really makes a statement. The brightness is perfect for a room that has a lot of natural light. Gaming performance has also been quite nice. Have not used the onboard speakers as this is connected to 5.2 surround AVR via eARC. The screen finish is a bit more reflective than anticipated. Had some freezing issues that required unplugging, hope they can fix that with future firmware updates. Overall a decent TV that fits well in a larger room.

I bought this TV back in September when it was first released. In terms of color, brightness, and motion processing this tv is second to none. I have multiple OLEDs in my home and this set comes darn near that infinite contrast ratio. Highlights in HDR and in SDR really pop, colors are very vibrant and watching cooking shows nearly creates that uncanny feeling you’re actually there. The images almost appear in 3D due to the high contrast ratio. The other night we watched a slasher movie for Halloween and it felt just a little too close and too realistic in our living room. So we switched ti watching Maverick again…and wow, what a visual treat when you see fighter jets zooming by. Everything seems just so lifelike. Also, i have the tv places in my living room with plenty of ambient light coming in. Tye maximum brightness I recommend is 90 at vivid and you will literally need eye protection, as it gets incredibly bright. A couple drawbacks: gaming on this thing is meh. Also, sometimes tye software glitches and i have to readjust tye settings. However, oversall this is a superior bisual experience.

The TV is fantastic it truly rivals my 65" LG OLED for blacks, colors abs image quality.
I am disappointed in Best Buy; not only am I a BB Total member (which offers free TV Mounting) but Mounting costs (up to $339) was included as a Black Friday bonus. I prepped everything as required before the Geak Squad arrived (I even had a wall outlet installed) but they refused to mount it, they said my Vesa-600 mount wouldn't work for this Vesa-600 TV. *Not only did the mount work (i ended up Mounting it myself) but TCL confirmed by email that it would work. I reached out to BB but they said they have a "list of approved mounts" but their list is internal, only for their installers, and cannot be provided to customers so...there's no way to know if it's approved until the installers get there (and if they think it's too hard to install than your braket is not in the list).

I’ve had several tcl TVs ranging from the 65 inch QM8 mini led (2023 model), TCL 55 inch nxtframe (edge lit) and now this new 2025 model QM9k. So I know the quality from low-ish to highest end tcl QM9k 98 inch beautiful beast of a tv both in size and quality. This 4k mini led tv is nearly perfect with its large size up to 6k local dimming zone to keep black levels near that of oled and help the overall picture quality look more detailed with helping the contrast between dark and light scenes. Very very little bloom if any to my eyes thanks to TCL “halo control” seems to do its job. Colors are vivid as you would expect from a tier this high both in hdr+ and Dolby vision looking its best while watching anything 4k. 1080p looks good as well(I have the basic nexflix and hbo max) though have to say, the up scaling is good but not the best I have seen compared to other TVs I’ve had but not a deal breaker in my opinion. Still very good maybe I’m picky lol. Brightness is probably its main claim to fame as I believe it’s the highest nit tv out as of now. While I agree it’s very bright, it is not blinding at all even at full brightness and the peak brightness setting at boost. Maybe it’s because it’s such a large tv or the processor management is that good I’m not sure but its bright and makes the content you are watching pop. Refresh rate is 144hz max.great for gaming if you want to hook a PC but latency if never as good as an oled monitor but it’s a nice option if you want to use it. I mainly watch tv and play ps5. All the gaming features you need with plenty of customization with game bar being a plus and very useful. It’s a Google tv with Gemini and of course it’s the best platform to use on any tv works great and smooth no issues. Speakers are very good for being tuned by audio partner bang & olufsen. Not a replacement for a dedicated surround or even a decent sound bar but does sound good enough to impress any of your guests for sure. Design is very stylish and relatively slim. Remote has every button you need and is backlit which I love. Overall a beautiful tv from picture quality to design. But one thing I don’t love is the fact that this tv I know is huge and you should have wide separation between the legs you are forced to buy a new and probably expensive wide tv stand to accommodate this big and heavy tv. They should have 2 options for legs because I had to buy and after market tv mounted legs that went closer in and it is steady. Minor gripe but at this price point that should be a definite option for the consumer imo. Again. It the end of the world but something to note. Check specs on Bestbuy website. A definite recommendation from me a huge techy but as long as your budget allows. I love it!

The TCL – 98” Class QM9K Series 4K TV offers a premium experience by combining top tier hardware and features including ultra-bright QD-Mini LED Technology, Dolby Vision IQ/Dolby Atmos, 144 Hz Native Refresh Rate, and Auto Game Mode with Game Accelerator 288 making it a top contender for best-in-class home theater and gaming TV.
• Unboxing – This thing is massive and takes two people to safely move and unbox. It weighs approximately 123.5 lbs according to the product information sheet. It arrived via scheduled freight delivery on a pallet and was well packaged to prevent damage. Once inside, unboxing was straightforward. The box is designed so it can be easily removed with the TV in an upright position. The Styrofoam inserts are designed in a way to allow for the outside inserts to be easily removed so the feet to be attached.
• Setup – Overall quick and easy. It comes with Google TV Smart OS. I followed the prompts, signed into my Google account, and it was ready to use.
• Design – It has an ultra slim design with TCL’s ZeroBorder Technology as well as integrated cable management and easy to access ports.
• Picture Quality – Between the QD-Mini LED with Halo Control System, up to 6000 controlled local dimming zones, and Dolby Vision IQ/HDR6500 brightness the viewing experience is absolutely phenomenal. It provides pure blacks and vibrant colors in virtually all lighting environments. It has a wide viewing angle with no off-angle color shift which has worked perfectly with my seating setup of an L shaped couch and oversized bean bag chair. The 4K UltraHD Resolution and 144 Hz Native Refresh Rate have allowed for a life like picture without motion blur when watching sports and movies.
• Gaming – Console gaming works great and feels very immersive when playing on the 98” screen. The TV automatically enables game mode and utilizes a specialized feature called Game Accelerator 288 to support low latency, stutter free gaming with reduced motion blur/screen tearing.
Overall, this is by far the best TV I have ever owned. If you are building a theater/gaming room or just want a large premium TV to enjoy your favorite shows/sports, then this is the TV you want to purchase. You will not regret it!

**** Summary ****
The TCL QM9K is my first foray into the really-big TV category, as well as the Quantum Dot mini LED technology, and I was blown away by how nice it is. The QM9K’s 98” display is big and very expansive, and the picture quality and brightness are superb. It’s been excellent for everything – movies and TV shows, watching 4K YouTube videos, and playing games on it. Even the sound system was impressive with its way better than expected soundstage and bass output. You know the saying that “Once you go big, you can’t go back” or “Go big or go home”? That’s so true of the 98” QM9K because the size DOES affect your immersion experience when viewing content, making the viewer feel like you’re inside a small movie theater. It’s a Win~!
______
*Pros:
-Big, thin-bezel 98” screen with excellent brightness, color spectrum, and even lighting.
-Clear voice, very decent bass, and excellent loudness.
-Plenty of ports on the back.
-Gaming performance is very good at 4K@120Hz.
-The TV interface and menu system are snappy and easy to navigate.
-Google TV with Gemini AI built-in is useful.
-Very responsive remote control with great button feel and intuitive placement.
-Direct buttons for Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube, and Gemini.
-You can connect an external hard drive via the USB port and watch your multimedia content without lag.
-Excellent value.
______
*Neutral:
-144Hz at 4K results in jitter and doesn’t work correctly.
______
*Cons:
-None
**** The Setup ****
When I laid my eyes on the humongous and heavy box, I felt daunted about how I was going to unpack the TV and get it set up. Fortunately, thanks to the cleverly designed external cardboard box and strategically placed foam blocks, the unpacking process was a non-issue, granted you have at least two people to help you during the process (to prevent tip-over and remove packaging pieces). With the cardboard box removed and the TV balanced on the center foam block and someone holding the TV steady, it was easy enough to attach the two TV leg stands and tighten the bolts. Although assembly was simple and easy, the challenging part was getting it lifted and placed on top of our TV stand which is about 4” high. My wife wasn’t strong enough to lift the ~120lb TV, so I had to recruit my neighbor to do so. The TV stands are stable for the most part, but the panel will wobble if you try to shake it. So I placed some 6lb dumbbells on top of the rear portion of the TV leg stands for stability, and it’s now very stable and steady.
**** Performance, Features and Viewing Experience ****
With its 98” screen real estate, 3.2mm thin bezel, 6042 local dimming zones, 6500 nits peak brightness, support for an array of HDR formats (Dolby Vision, HDR 10, HDR 10+, HLG), and the Bang & Olufsen 2.1 sound system, the QM9K really cranks up the immersion factor when watching anything on it. Everything feels so fresh and new, even if it’s a movie or a YouTube clip you’ve seen before on a different (and smaller) screen, simply due to the sheer expansiveness of the 98” screen, the high brightness, and high color fidelity and accuracy. I think the phrase “Everything old is new again” sums up my experience with the QM9K very well, and I love it for that because it truly and deeply increased the satisfaction and pleasure I derive when watching movies and TV shows I’ve been especially waiting for (like Fallout Season 2).
As I mentioned before, the audio is very decent for a TV, but it’s not super fantastic enough to eschew a soundbar system. So not too long after the setup of the TV, I connected my 7.1.4-channel Samsung soundbar system to the eARC port, which increased the immersion factor another notch. With a 98” big screen and the 7.1.4 speakers firing off from multiple directions, I really felt like I was inside a small and private movie theater of my very own. Being in my forties, I don’t feel giddy very often anymore, but the QM9K revived such emotions.
It’s often not mentioned in many reviews, but I applaud TCL for the performant and snappy chipset they installed in the QM9K that makes menu and input switching and menu navigation such a quick and frustration-free experience. My old 55” TV had an anemic processor so it couldn’t quickly open folders and launch video files from a hard drive that I connected to it (via the USB port). The QM9K with its AIPQ Pro Processor, on the other hand, is so powerful, navigating through multiple folders and video files on my external hard drive was super snappy and lag-free, which made me VERY happy.
Seriously, big TVs are so nice. If you don’t have the coin for it right now, then I suggest saving up and getting a nice TV like the 98” TCL QM9K, because if you enjoy your movies, YouTube, and TV shows, then you’ll experience a real and profound “upgrade” in your entertainment life experience by going bigger and brighter. Oh, and don’t forget to pair it up with a good sound system.
**** Gaming Performance ****
I was slightly disappointed with the QM9K because I could not stably enable the 144Hz refresh option on my Nvidia GeForce 5800 equipped gaming laptop. The moment I select the 144Hz dropdown option, the screen began to jitter and artifact like crazy. Once I dropped it back down to 120Hz, everything was good again. I downloaded and installed the latest firmware, but 144Hz was still a no-go on my Windows 11 gaming laptop.
To be honest, however, it’s not a big deal, because my laptop isn’t powerful enough to run the latest games at 4K and at 144Hz refresh rate.
Besides the small hiccup with the 144Hz refresh rate issue, everything else was just fine and peachy, and gaming never felt better, with such rich colors, high clarity, and brightness.
**** Is it worth the coin? ****
Absolutely. With the QM9K often going on sale and dipping much below its $5999.99 MSRP price, it’s a fantastic value and an excellent deal. If you don’t believe me, then search for head-to-head comparisons against TVs that cost 2-3 times more from reputable publications, and you’ll see that the QM9K offers cutting-edge and up-to-date technology, high performance, and a great value against the majority of other TVs with similar specs. To be honest, before taking a chance on the TCL QM9K, I usually only stuck with the “safe” big brand name labels because I was so afraid of making a mistake. But TCL has shown me that they are just as cutting-edge and adept at making fantastic-looking and sounding TVs that can not only hang with the big boys but come out on top as well. I love my 98” TCL QM9K TV, and I think you’ll too. 5 Stars Win.

I’m upgrading from an 85”, which sadly has started to appear small over the past year lol. I will say the obvious, that this thing is the size of a beast and I would recommend paying for the install service from Best Buy. I try to keep up with TV technology and brands over the years and do my share of research, and I will say that TCL has been climbing the charts from affordable entry-level TVs to premium, competing with big brands televisions. Even with the recent partnership/acquisition with Sony, it’s a big win for TCL. However this is my first TCL, which has been a good experience so far.
Setup was straightforward, I’m familiar with the Google TV systems and having an Android made it even easier. Once powered on, both my friends phone and my phone were signaled by the TV asking us to connect our account. The TV didn’t even need wifi to connect to our phones, just using NFC to sign in and transfer accounts details and network settings….very seamless and no need to punch in every letter with a remote. Aside from the size, one of my first impressions was how fast and responsive the TV worked while navigating it! A lot of TV’s that have built in systems for streaming will have some lag or sluggishness, this one was a breath of fresh air and works quickly!
Next is the picture quality. I like to run tests and really dig in visually to try to look for blooming, halos, over saturation, or bad pixels that may exist. My out of the box experience was good, we first watched Tron for its high contrast of colors. I was actually pretty impressed with it. Rich colors, that didn’t have light bleed from corners or edges was beautiful on such a large screen! I will tell you that I was really impressed with the blacks. I’m a huge OLED fan, but don’t like how they don’t get very bright. Non-OLED tv’s struggle getting dark blacks, but wow these were pretty close to OLED in my opinion. In our movie we had the black bars at the top and bottom which we were closely comparing to the rest of the colors and I was highly satisfied with it.
Aside from having darker blacks, we have a lot of windows in our living room area, so a bright tv is important to us. This TV gets pretty bright, impressively…not a big surprise for a 6500 peak nit brightness! I normally have most my TV’s at 100% brightness, but after adjusting some setting recommendations online, I could put it at half that and it still looks good. I currently have it in Movie mode, and I like to reference rtings.com calibration settings for TVs, and play around with them. I also like to play demo videos to really get the colors to pop out since your average show doesn’t really push the colors to the limit. Check out Jennifer Gala on youtube, lots of great videos to see your TVs potential and great for making your TV look like it does at Best Buy when playing those demos.
A few other things to note, the speakers do sound good and are fairly loud and clean. Always nice to have quality built-in speakers. The remote is not backlit, which is disappointing, but not a big deal. I love how it has 4 HDMI ports, 2 for 144hz (gaming) and 2 for 60hz (movies & shows), all of which are easily accessible from the right side of the TV and clearly labeled along with the other ports. As a computer nerd, I do appreciate having an ethernet port as well. I did have some issues with Gemini AI assistant not working, even though it was enabled and I do pay for the premium AI service already, but that is more from Google TV than the TCL tv side.
Overall, its been a great tv and nice upgrade from what I’ve had. I’ve watched movies, shows, football games, and several TV demos on it, all leaving me excited to watch more. I do like compatibility of HDR options that come with it, especially since my last TV did not have Dolby Vision. I hosted a Superbowl party and everyone was shocked by the size of the TV and really enjoyed the quality of it. Here are some pictures, which don’t do the TV justice, but gives you an idea of the size and contrast in a well-lit room.

I have been wanting to upgrade to a huge TV for our basement for a while now. after I saw how great were the TCL QM8K series reviews and I saw the they are coming with an upgrade to the QM9K- it made sense to wait and get the new version.
the QM9K is a beautiful smart TV powered by Google TV, amazing brightness, and quick processing. it exceeded my expectations for anything that isn't OLED.
the brightness in different lighting situations is awesome.
The sound is great and you can easily forgo having a sound system connected with the TV as this one has subwoofers to improve sound quality and depth. the lows are really low and they high's and midrange are really good.
out of the box I immediately was greeted with a firmware update that took about 25 minutes. logged into my Google account and imported my preferences and favorite apps. no issues at all.
I like the different viewing modes for sports and gaming, and the different sound modes as well.
the seamless almost frameless bezel is also a huge plus.
The blacks are extremely dark and I so no shadowing or fade so far after about a month of owning this TV.
installing it requires 3 people because of how massive the screen is.
if you want to hang it on the wall i recommend getting a tv mount that swivels a bit as anything thin wont allow you to actually plug the tv to electricity.
watching 4K content is amazing- the Superbowl was extra amazing as the sport settings made motion extremely smooth.

If you have the budget and the space, this TCL TV is a treat! We’ve been using ours for general content consumption (Netflix, YouTube, etc), gaming on both a Switch 2 and PS5, and most recently to watch the Super Bowl. It’s been phenomenal for every use case thus far. Because it’s so large, everyone always has a great view. Picture quality is excellent. Despite not being an OLED panel, the Mini LEDs do a great job with color contrast and provide near-perfect black levels. The 144 Hz refresh rate ensures gameplay remains smooth. I can’t comment specifically on the Bang and Olufsen speakers because we have our TV connected through the HDMI eARC port to a surround sound system. I’m sure they’re great. One thing I can say is that a frequent issue we had with our previous TV is the connection between said TV and our surround sound system (also through HDMI eARC) would randomly, and frequently disconnect and require a reboot. A simple thing, but intensely annoying. We have had no such issue with this TCL TV. Processing power overall seems solid as there has been no lag with powering on, scrolling through and selecting apps, or using remote voice commands. We love this TV and hope it last a really long time!
There are a few things that we encountered during setup that I think folks should be aware of if you are looking to buy this TV. As the title of my review alludes to, a 98” TV is extremely large. We had it delivered to our home and it required a scheduled delivery date and time via freight. Its packaging is just like any new TV, but because of its size, there is just naturally more styrofoam and cardboard. Be prepared to cut up lots of large cardboard panels if you don’t have access to a dumpster size recycling bin. If you choose to mount the TV, be mindful of the VESA pattern/compatibility. I purchased a mount prior to receiving the TV that said it would accommodate TVs up to 98”, but I found out way after the fact that it did not accommodate the 600mm x 500mm VESA pattern that this TV has. I had to go out a buy another mount, which wasted time and ended up being quite a bit more expensive. Alas. The final thing I want to mention is if you are planning to mount the TV on your own, be ready. The TV without the stand only weighs in at 121.3 pounds, but because it’s distributed over such a large surface area, it’s awkward and VERY difficult to lift. With just two people, we used multiple chairs to systematically lift one side at a time and eventually got it, but really put our marriage to the test in the process. Now that the TV is up, it’s a lovely focal point in our living room and both my spouse and I are glad we have it.

I will say I was skeptical at first with this TV of how good they claim the picture was as well as the brightness. But after removing my 77-in LG C1 OLED from my wall mount and installing this 98 in QM9K TCL full array local dimming LED TV. I was not only blown away at the brightness levels this thing puts out but the colors look great and it gets inky black like my old lead did with the proper settings.
For his monstrous as this 98-in QLED LED TV is it has a elegant look to it with its minimal bezels and it's slim thickness. From the front it looks closer to a LG g series OLED. The one thing you have to watch is the style of Mount you get as there aren't too many that will fit this behemoth that articulate away from the wall more just your standard wall mounts.
This TV is definitely perfect for someone with a lot of windows and a bright room, and if you have a darker light control room it's good in there as well so no matter your settings at home whether your room is bright or dark you can adjust the TV's picture to combat it.
I have this hooked up to my Onkyo RZ50 AVR and a 7.2.4 atmos surround sound setup. With this TV paired it's like going to the movie theater only better. My one complaint would be is that the EARC HDMI input is not a 2.1 120 hz capable input it's HDMI 2.1 at 60 hz. Seeing that I use over the year antenna for local broadcast I had to run a additional HDMI in wall cable to send audio back to my AVR. I also could have opted for a fiber optic digital cable but chose to go with HDMI since I already had one lane around at 15 ft length.
I haven't been able to find any source that this doesn't handle well whether it's 4K streaming 4K Blu-ray disc or gaming on my PS5 or Xbox X, everything I've thrown at it just looks beautiful in 4K. 1080p also looks great to boot.
I would definitely recommend this TV to anybody on the fence it has a great picture with brightness to spare and it gets black just like OLED.

TCL - 98" Class QM9K has been nothing but trouble since it was delivered last week. The TV would shut off after 60 minutes of watching and needed to be unplugged and then plugged back in to stop the Blue screen below. Now it just shuts off at random intervals. (All power savings and timeouts are off) I wanted to use it to watch YouTube, and all I get is the pink screen below. It is hard to believe the specs are worth if the the TV does not function.

The TCL 98QM9K is a cinematic marvel. It's also spectacular for gaming. I've owned my fair share of QD-Mini LED's and the 98QM9K is easily in another league. Before diving into this review, I think it's important to note that my 98QM9K is running the latest firmware (V8-0012T03-LF1V039.001875) which seems to have just recently been released on February 14, 2026. My experience so far has been near flawless with some very minor quirks that TCL can hopefully address in future firmware updates. I would realistically give the 98QM9k a 4.5/5 rating if I was able to but I didn't feel that deducting an entire point was representative of how impressive it performs in it's core areas. It's not perfect, but it's darn close. Also, because my living room has a ton of windows, this QM9K performs better in one key area that no other current Mini-LED or OLED panel on the market is able to compete with (other than TCL's X11L of course); it's brightness! Due to it's whopping 6,500 nits of peak brightness, I could hardly ask for a better TV that's suited for my living room.
I was pleasantly surprised with how the TV gets shipped from TCL. The bottom of the TV is strapped onto a form-fitting palette that helps provide stability to the TV while it's in the upright position. This was very convenient for me as I needed to store the TV in the garage until help arrived to lift this beast into my home. While this 98" can be unboxed with two people, I highly recommend having three people to help. It's truly massive and heavy. A thoughtful inclusion by TCL was designing the bottom styrofoam in such a way that it allows you to use it as a temporary resting stand while putting on the TV feet. The TV feet allows you to set them up in two different height variations. I LOVE that TCL included this feature as it allowed me to get just enough clearance in between the bottom lip of the TV and my TV stand for my Dolby Atmos soundbar.
The build quality on the QM9K is top notch. I love the sleek design with it's ultra thin metal bezels. The back of the panel also features premium hard cover speaker grills for the Bang & Olufsen drivers. The placement and design of the IR sensor is also brilliant. Even though the top of my soundbar seems to practically cover the sensor, navigating the UI with the remote control has been flawless; even in situations where my remote is not pointing directly at the sensor. This was an annoying issue with my previous Mini-LED TV whereby I had to buy an IR blaster extender because my soundbar partially covered the sensor. Not an issue with the QM9K! While the included remote maintains a sleek metallic appearance, I do wish that it was a bit higher quality. The top part of the remote has a very thin sheet of aluminum that feels a bit "plasticky". The rest of the remote is just black plastic. I would have loved to have seen at least 50% of the remote being constructed of brushed aluminum. I also would have liked to have seen a dedicated "Play/Pause" button on the remote. Rubber buttons over plastic buttons would have also been a nice touch. However, I do really love that the touch-sensitive buttons are all backlit. I've also really enjoyed the seamless operation of the IR blaster and sensor; despite how many obstructions there seems to be from my remote to my TV.
In terms of image quality, it's hard to contain your excitement once you start watching your favorite movies and TV shows on the 98QM9K. I've watched Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HDR10 content on streaming apps and on 4K blu-rays. It blows me away every time. First of all, for being a Mini-LED TV, backlight bloom was hardly noticeable for me on any of the content I've watched so far. As with any Mini-LED panel, some degree of backlight bloom will always exist but it is extremely minimal with the QM9K. When watching the aforementioned ultra HD formats, I was very impressed with the QM9K's ability to handle HDR tone mapping, it's white uniformity, shadow level details, and it's ability to produce organic looking skin tones. The QM9K also has EXCEPTIONAL contrast. With that said, depending on the type of content I was watching, I did find myself having to re-calibrate some of the factory image settings to my liking. Out of the box, I noticed that TCL likes to max out the color temperature to "Warm" in a lot of its presets. While the warm color temperature does look quite good on most content, I did find that I preferred a more balanced temperature for certain content.
Once image settings were adjusted, the image quality was phenomenal. For example, turning on "Dynamic Tone Mapping" and setting it to "Balance" really enhanced 4K animated movies such as Pixar's "Ratatouille". The brightness was auto-adjusted to really bring out the details in the characters. With it off, while the picture quality still looked great, some of the scenes didn't appear as lush or as detailed as they did with it on. I did notice that I had to be a bit cautious with settings like "Dynamic Acceleration". This setting is supposed to increase screen refresh rate. When I enabled it while watching my 4K Blu-ray of Ratatouille, I initially liked it because it did seem to make the motion appear a bit more fluid. However, I noticed that in certain scenes it would introduce some strange artifacts. In the scene where Remy stumbles into Gusteau's kitchen for the first time, and accidentally hitches a ride onto the food cart, there was some weird green artifacts that were introduced on the edges of the wheels as well as on the outlines of certain characters in the scene. When I turned it off and replayed the scene, these artifacts would no longer appear. So depending on the content, your mileage may vary in terms of how it may impact the image.
"Vivid" was my favorite preset for 4K HDR10 animated content. Vivid adds a little more color saturation and turns on the following: dynamic tone mapping to priority brightness, dynamic contrast to high, micro contrast, and dynamic color. It also boosts the sharpness! This looked fantastic for animated movies but it wasn't a preset I found myself using a lot for live-action movies. I did still have to turn down the "Motion Clarity" to "Medium" as "High" still introduced a bit of motion artifacting. For ultra HD live action content, I let the QM9K auto-select the preset and then fine-tuned some settings to my preference. I love that once you make your adjustments for the selected preset, the TV allows you to save those settings for the input it's currently on, and gives you the option to apply it to all other inputs as well. I found that for Dolby Vision content, "Dolby Vision IQ" and "Dolby Vision Bright" produced a gorgeous image. I mainly adjusted the color temperature, color, and dark detail to my preference. I deliberately chose to watch Alien Romulus, 1917, and Andor for their dark scenes. I used Dune 2 to test both ends of the dynamic range since it features a lot of high contrast bright desert scenes, as well as some very low-light sequences. Skin tones looked very natural, colors were rich and vibrant, and black levels were very inky. Black shadow details were also very good for a Mini-LED. I don't think they are quite flagship OLED quality yet, but it's getting very close. I have yet to experience any type of black crush or banding. Watching sports also looks beautiful on this panel. I do feel that the "Sports" preset over saturates the color though. I had to turn down the "Color" to "50" and adjust the color temperature. I also had to turn off "Dynamic Color" as it would overshoot some of the colors and lose quite a bit of color accuracy.
I was just as impressed with the gaming performance of this TV as I was with it's image quality. I connected my PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and played several titles like Elden Ring, FF7 Rebirth, Mario vs Donkey Kong, Street Fighter 6, and several others. The TV auto-detects when a gaming console is connected to an input and automatically applies all the optimized gaming settings. It automatically selects "game" for the picture mode and also applies the "game master" mode. I love that TCL took the guess work out of having to manually fiddle with additional settings to optimize gaming visual fidelity. "Game Master" automatically enabled ALLM (Auto Low Latency mode) and 144Hz VRR. It apparently also disables unnecessary image processing. The one thing that took me a while to figure out was how to bring up the game bar (please add a dedicated button on the remote, TCL!). You have to hold down the button with 3 horizontal lines on it, for about 3 seconds, until the game bar comes up. This allows you to use additional features like displaying the FPS counter, adjusting shadow enhancement, choosing different game picture modes, etc. All my games ran buttery smooth and I didn't experience any noticeable input lag. No noticeable issues with ghosting, or pixel trailing, either. The only time I did encounter an issue with VRR was in Hogwarts Legacy. For whatever reason, when enabled, I would experience a bit of input lag. Once I turned VRR off, I would experience a notable improvement with how quickly my button actions would be displayed on-screen. It's possible that I may need to play with some of the in-game performance settings for this particular game but I didn't experience this with any other titles that I tried with VRR enabled. All in all, the visuals looked great and features like AMD Freesync's VRR kept games running smoothly.
I think the 98QM9K delivers a stellar cinematic experience that is very close to OLED. In certain scenes, it's indistinguishable unless you have them side by side. And with the only available OLED options in this screen size costing as much as a car, the 98QM9K is an obvious choice for many!

I’ve been thinking about pulling the trigger on 100” tv for a few years now and built my cabinet waiting for one of the higher end models to come down in price. The TCL checked all the boxes and really ties the room together. I have a nice Sony projector in the basement but this brings the big screen to everyday viewing. I’m very happy with the interface and the remote. Beautiful bright picture in a room that gets a lot of light. I’m very happy with my purchase.

This TV is fantastic. The image quality is absolutely stunning, and so far, everything has been working perfectly.
The smart features are a huge plus—the built-in apps are all incredibly responsive, Gemini support is genuinely helpful, and the presence detection is a really nice touch. The display is so beautiful that my wife often gets caught just viewing our family photos on it!
We've had zero issues with this TV since day one. The only thing that could possibly make it better would be an anti-reflective display, but I understand that might trade off with the incredible viewing quality. It's a very minor point for an otherwise perfect TV. Highly recommended!

I would give 3.5. I originally had the 98 qm8k, but it had a buzzing power unit. I came from a 77 sont a9g oled and was unsure if i could go back to a non-oled. These mini leds are good. Minimal blooming, however, there are some big issues i cant handle with the 98 qm9k -- as of 12/26/25 firmware
1) full screen scenes that are bright (like snow) in SDR with high dimming/peak luminence causes the screen to have microflcikering/sudden brightness changes that is super annoying. Does not occur in HDR so its probably a software bug
2. Motion is bad. Watching football with any motion smoothing on causes double images. Really bad in my opion.
3) colors are better than the 98 qm8k, but the qm9k seems beta. It may be better with new firmware but...for what i watch..not good.
4) last, the borderless design looks nice but theres a vignette around the perimeter of the whole screen..annoying and kinda ruins immersion because its so noticeable.

Was totally satisfied with my purchase, i spend days of traveling to different stores to compare different models from Sony, Samsung, LG, ect but the QM9k really stood out to me,the clarity as well as the color, sound all the way down to the Geek squad assisting me with the installation. This TV really gave me the WOW factor that i believe as a buyer we really look for when making a purchase.
