First well done on the audio/vido quality of the movies. there is a real BIG difference if you have a 4k tv, 4k cables, 4k player, and dolb atmos sound system if have all those at your home. Even the the dark scenes or when you see Sauron in Morder, the battle scenes of Helms Deep Look great. My q7 soudbar is set only on 30 out of 100 volume and the battle of Gondor is geeking me out. The War cry of the Gondor Battles during Rohans March is geeking me out. Now for the packaging and steelbooks I can honestly say there is some serious issues going on that bestbuy should address. Luckily I been ordering 2 copies or back up copies of every steel book case I get and I can honestly say “ BUY 2 copies of each steel book” You can always return the damage or least damage set back to any bestbuy and get a full refund if its unopen with original packaging. I been doing this for all my steel books and not once have I ever had a bestbuy employee refused my return. Plus it helps if u show them your receipt, but in most cases I just tell them my order number and thats it. The extras or trailers, appendices etc are missing from the set, the only little minor issue I have is no extras but audio commentary only. Luckily I kept my old 2 dvd sets and blurays, so the trailers, documentaries, etc still have but would be nice to have more shelf space and just 1 set with all the extras not a book shelf of the same movie. I didnt get any missing discs, nor crack discs, luckily it was just minor plastic tears, and thats it. see my pictures of the set and your find there is hope for guys looking for a little to no damage LOTR steel case set... Other than the damage or missing disc problems the sets are great if you can find one. Lucky for me I preordered the first 5 minutes when bestbuy started the preorders and I told my buddies to preorder 2 copies of each too so best of luck to guys finding it. Yes the digital code does redeem as 4K too! Previosly on Game of Thrones 4k set only HD but thats not WB fault (set never said 4k DIGITAL COPY), some people have to understand that when guys say digital copy there is a “type” or many versions of a digital copy that most guys wont know. Digital could mean hdx, UHD, or just a standerd download version that could be hd/4k/480i. Anyways if you have a movies anywhere account( which you should you will be able to redeem lord of the rings as a 4k version which is playable on any movies anywhere app.. Since I have vudu, itunes, connected to my movies anywhere account I can view lotr 4k in either one without having to pay for each version. This is why you should redeem all your movies in movies anywhere first, so you dont have to keep paying to watch it in vudu, apple, google, sony etc. Am happy with the set now if they only they can come out with a special features only set or the rumored bluray set with most or all the extras included my lord of the rings set is complete

This is a beautiful set and I am very thankful I did not receive a damaged set, like some did. Yes, this is a metal case and can be damaged in shipment. Fortunately, my set was protected. There is no dents or scratches on it and the steelbooks themselves are in outstanding condition. Each one is protected in a velvet like sleeve. The picture and sound quality are outstanding and the Dolby Atmos is superb. There are NO Blu-rays in these sets. These are the 4K sets only and there is a Digital code for each movie on 1 piece of paper located in the first movie case. I am very happy with my set here, still awaiting for THE HOBBIT Trilogy to arrive.

Beautiful set. Lucky to get it once it came back in stock, and went to pick it up in person after damage with other steelbook deliveries. I saw other customer's issues with box cutter scratches and dents, but was able to get an unscathed set by picking it up in person. Worth it if you can get a clean product. The individual cases do feel almost...brittle? But between the art design and the fact they are contained within an additional steel box, they should be perfect for the collector to put on display. The films are great as always, even if there are differences or imperfections from other releases (which you can find on some YouTube reviews) but still worth it in my opinion. Is this set perfect? No. Is it excellent? Yes.

I have never purchased or owned any steelbook movies until this purchase. They’re absolutely stunningly gorgeous! I thought that the center where the movies were held would be a cheap flimsy styrofoam holder but I was wrong. It is a very soft plastic so as to not scratch the steelbooks. The 4K quality is phenomenal!!!! I was skeptical and afraid that it would be lackluster going from 35mm film to 4K but Peter Jackson and crew really did an outstanding job! Really hit out of the ballpark with the quality!

This makes a good addition to my 4k remaster collection. The movies are amazing and look great. All the steelbooks are gorgeous. The only downside is that one of my steelbooks had a cut across the spine, probably from a box cutter. Unfortunately, I am still waiting for my Hobbit trilogy steelbooks. I pre-ordered them at the same time as the LOTR steelbooks, but my order has not been fulfilled and it now says that the item has been delayed. I hope I still receive them.

Beautiful casing, even though the movie quality will continue to improve over time, having these beautiful steelbook cases and the tin will keep them safe. Im really looking forward to these extended versions! There are some dents and scratches that occur during manufacturing but it doesnt take away from the product aesthic.

This box set is ridonkulous! The outside box is steelbook material with a slot for each movie box. The movies look and sound better than some stuff shot in the last 5 years. Pretty good for the first movie being released in 2001. The Atmos sounds amazing with the fireworks show and Balrog standout scenes in Fellowship.

This is hands down the best addition to my movie and steelbook collection! Been reading a lot of reviews of folks receiving damaged products, that’s a serious bummer. I’d recommend picking this up in person (if possible) because supposedly the shipping is where you can run into dents, scratches, etc.

The Lord of the rings trilogy steelbook. It's great to have and has the extended scenes in the movie and the theater ones whoever is interested in The Lord of the rings they would like this collection.

I bought this because I am a slag for a good looking steelbook and I love this trilogy. If we share those affinities, then you should snag one for yourself before Beat Buy can't keep them stocked again. Love you guys.

Case and discs are packed beautifully. Movies look brilliant in 4k. I personally skipped the Blu-Rays so the upgrade in picture quality compared to the DVDs is phenomenal.

So I an writing a review on the steelbook and not the movies because we already know the LOTR trilogy is legendary and amazing. I have been watching Best Buy like a hawk trying to get these since November-ish. Because we live in an era of scalpers, getting my hands on a copy or two for myself and my family has been difficult to say the least. You can only imagine my immense disappointment when I receieved not one, but three damaged steelbooks. My original order was for two steelbooks so I could give one to a family member and keep one myself. Both came to me damaged. The picture with two steelbooks are this original order. Going to my local Best Buy to exchange for different copies was not an option. The closest store that had them was 150mi away. The customer service rep I spoke with urged me to have them replaced and told me they would be shipped to me. He also told me that it is very rare to get damaged items. Fast forward two days later and after I shipped back my original order, I received my replacement order. One of the steelbooks was in great condition. The other was in a condition worse than the original two from the original order (see picture with one steelbook). I contacted CS again and I was told that they don’t have anymore that they could send for replacement so their recommendation was to go to my local Best Buy and return it. After some back and forth with CS about the damaged replacement, I settled for a damage discount and kept the damaged copy because I didn’t want to have to wait for these to become available again to potentially get another damaged copy. My ratio of good condition to damaged was 1:4, which is very bad and does not make me feel confident about a future purchase of the steelbox. I am still really frustrated and disappointed because I feel mislead by my original CS rep. In the end I ended up with one in worse shape than the original two I shipped back. Moral of the story, even if you buy two as another reviewer suggested, be aware you could end up with both copies being damaged and might have to settle for damaged goods depending on availability. The most help you’ll get is maybe a replacement that isn’t damaged(maybe) or a damage discount.

Love this steelbook collection, only wish bestbuy could package there steelbooks with more padding. But overall, beautiful design and great movie choice for a 4K remaster with a great steelbook case.

Great purchase. Has the best sound, picuture (with 4k), includes the digital HD plus the steelbooks are awesome looking. By far the greatest set.

Beautiful Steelbook set and impressive 4k transfers of all 3 films. Gone is the green tint from Fellowship that plagued the Blu-ray release. Well worth the upgrade.

Finally! By far my most wanted 4K titles since I started collecting 4-5 years ago. This steelbook set is gorgeous. My god does the HDR and Dolby Atmos blow me away.

Great movies I finally got a steelbook that wasn’t damaged

I currently purchased this set and while I'm happy with it overall cause I am a big fan of steenboks and of the exclusives ones that come from Best Buy I was really disappointed that this set came damaged with a noticeable DENT! I have some other steelbooks ordered from here as well and I'm hoping that in the futures boxes can be used for future mailing.
