I have yet to find a current-gen game that can best this one when it comes to its graphical presentation. The scenes and characters are amazing. Facial expressions for speech and emotion are second to none. Check out some videos or screenshots to see what I mean. The game is relatively short and pretty straightforward. You're essentially moving through the flow of the story (which I found interesting) through platforming and shooting. There aren't a bunch of branches or side quests, unfortunately. You can finish it in a day or two. I wouldn't pay full new game price, but it's a neat game if you get it on sale or at discount. If you're looking for the most bang for your buck, maybe look at The Witcher 3...

The Order: 1886 Is A Mixed Bag

The Order: 1886 is a bit of a mixed bag. It is a fun third person shooter but has its share of problems. The pacing in the game is bad and it makes the story feel like it was stretched out to make a short game a little longer. The gameplay itself was fun although it is hard to really get into it despite the aforementioned pacing problems. For those who care, The Order: 1886 is an easy platinum trophy you can get over a weekend. I was able to get it on sale for around $15 and am happy with my purchase for that price.

The Order: 1886 is a pretty incredible graphical feat for the PS4, and a good piece of compact storytelling - the beats are all familiar, even cliche in some parts, but all solidly accomplished. Voice acting is great, and the gameplay is fairly solid, though the camera sits too close to the player character for my taste. I dug the story, dug the atmosphere, dug the universe, and loved the weapons, but... ...there's not enough. Most of the arguments against the order have hinged on the game's length, but brevity isn't the problem - its that there's not enough gameplay and content in The Order. 15 chapters, and 6 of them are nothing but cut scenes. The steampunkish weapons are awesome, but there's not enough of them. The Order is a great game, I just wish there was more of it.

Despite all the bad reviewers for this game, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Let's get some things out in the clear: campaign took me about 9-10 hrs to finish on medium, yes there are QTE's but it's not that bad, the game does have some pacing issues early on (pacing issues mostly go away in the second half of the game), the cover and shooting parts of the game are quite good, story is good, graphics and sound are very good, voice acting is very good, you can tell this was a high production game. This game is a mix of third person shooter games and story games like heavy rain. It's a very cinematic game, like playing a movie with third person shooter elements. I thoroughly enjoyed the game and would rate it a 7/10. After reading many professional site reviews on this game I was surprised they rated it so low and seemed quite unfair. It was more like all these reviewers decided that this was the game they would make an example of despite the complains being quite common on a lot of other games, yet those games weren't rated so low. These same sites gave absolutely broken games like assassin's creed unity and halo MCC good reviews yet the Order which has practically no technical issues at all gets quite bad reviews. On a site note there is an instant fail stealth mission and I despise those.

Too short. Too easy, even on the highest difficulty. The presentation is quite good, if not amazing. The story, the backdrop, the overall theme of the game is outstanding. With all that being said, the game wasn't paced well and there's parts where it's just too sluggish. I don't mind linear stories, and I don't even mind games that are primarily a cinematic experience. I just needed a little bit more freedom in this game. It doesn't allow you to run in a lot of sequences where it should. It bores you to death will little nuances that should be interesting if they were just simply executed in a different way. The gun fights were entertaining, if not a little bland. The best part of them were the weapons at your disposal, but again....you're not able to use the most interesting ones if not but for a couple snippets of a couple chapters in the game. Overall, this isn't a bad game. It's very good, but it really is more of a rental. It certainly doesn't deserve the amount of hate that's spewed its direction. The story kept me engaged, and even though the ending was lackluster....I was entertained throughout. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

You have seen the criticism, debate on length and the fact that it isn’t considered a “game” by most reviewers, but this is honestly something I have never played before. I do have a soft spot for these type of cinematic games and do not feel it detracts from the overall experience, if that is the experience they are trying to convey. There is a lot more game here than it gets credit for. Albeit it might be a single button press, flicking the right stick in a direction or a series of timed button presses, but the game never dips in quality. And I mean never. Seamless is a word I would use to describe this game. You constantly gain control in the middle of what looks like traditional cut scenes, so don’t get comfortable as there is action happening all the time. The voice acting and character animations are movie quality. More than one person asked if that was Liam voicing the main char, LOL. The set pieces are amazing. With it being so linear the level of detail in every single environment is uncanny. Pacing I feel is excellent and really lets you enjoy the quiet moments, forcing you to slow down and take it all in. There aren’t many deviating paths, so you are not taken out of the moment to find something out of the way, as everything is tied to the story or events happening around you. The weapons are just fine. How you acquire the special weapons all makes sense during the moment and would not fit with the storyline if you were able to just use these all the time. 3rd person shooting is just fine. I guess the reviewers never pushed up on the left stick to peek over cover to line up shots. Not gonna lie, I died like 20 times on this one shooting section where guys kept flanking me, but man did I get that feeling of joy when completed. (Normal difficulty) Black bars? Honestly never even noticed, so this complaint is just silly. Unless you are still playing on a 19” tube TV, then stop with the dumb letterbox comments. The game is QTE heavy, but I am not having any issues, other than my normal reservations against QTE in general. This type of QTE is not horrible and gives you plenty of time to react. Plus if you fail, the sequence plays out almost instantly while the button combinations stay the same. Some let you fail a couple of times and you still progress, albeit with a knife in your leg. I’d say I played for a good 5 hours so far and made it to Chapter 6. This is something I will want to play again later on, like the latest Killzone campaign. It is refreshing that a game does not throw in 100 hours of open world content fluff, where you end up losing track of the story 40 hours in anyway, and just conveys a story from moment to moment.

I was very excited when the game was first released, then very apprehensive about buying this game, due to the fact that it was receiving ratings of only 6.0 - 6.5. I'm so glad I did purchase it despite the bad press. Don't let that deter you. There's been plenty of games that were given poor reviews but ended up being great games. This is one. Yes, it's a very linear game and the fight sequences could have been more than just cover based shooting, and it is a shorter game (8-10 hours). But all in all I thought it was fantastic. The graphics are the best I've seen this far, in any game, the voice acting was superb, the music was eerie, and the storyline was interesting. This game could easily have been a 9.0 - 10.0 if it would've been open world and let you roam and explore the beautiful landscape. Because it wasn't, I took a star off. I am all about the graphics! This game was so gorgeous and flowed so seemlessly from actual gameplay to cutscenes and back, that it felt like an interactive movie!! I would sincerely recommend buying this game. I'm looking forward to playing through it again.

To state the obvious... this game looks stunning. Creative design, atmosphere, setting, characters, weapons, enemies... all of it VERY solid. Pacing? Yeah, it can lag a little at times to tell the story. I personally didn't have a problem with it. I really enjoyed the story up until the rather abrupt end. Just felt like a lot of it was left open for a sequel (which I hope they do). I know the game length caused a big stink with gamers, but I really don't that much time to play a lot of games these days, so the time it took to finish the game was perfect for me. Shooting mechanics were good (not great). The quick time events did get a little annoying (especially since there were times you just didn't know they had started), but overall I really did enjoy the game. No game is perfect. I really think if the developer gets the green light to do a sequel, we could have a classic on our hands eventually.

Yes, there are a ton of QuickTime events which feels like they're tacked on as filler rather than useful, and yes the pacing can sometimes feel all over the place with gameplay that goes from fast and fluid shooting to slow story telling scenes where your character moves at a snails pace as the dialogue unfolds or control of your character is totally stripped away from you in favor of beautifully rendered cut scenes. And that's just it though. This is hands down the best looking game on any system thus far! Yes, even better than The Last Of Us. The gunplay is accurate and fluid, the voice acting and motion capture are top notch, the weapons are creative and satisfying although dull at times. Stealth missions aren't as bad as reviewers make them out to be. And although the game might've done just fine without them they worked just how they were supposed to. All in all, it was a very short game. About 7 hrs tops and that's without even rushing through it. I really do wish it was longer, especially at a day in age where the typical action game takes somewhere between 12-20 something hrs to complete. The worst part about this game is that it has absolutely no replay value. There are no unlockables or any type of extra modes including multiplayer. Not saying every game needs a multiplayer mode, however, once you beat the game there is really no other reason to play it again. Reviewers by the woodworks have their opinions which were very unforgiving if not brutally honest, yet, I disagree with the majority. The game was short, pacing was all over the place, there's no replay value, but it is fun to play and has a great story. The setting is amazing and the graphics will blow your mind. It's truly next gen in terms of looks and presentation. Is it worth $60 though? I don't think so. This is just one more person's opinion but I give it a 7 out of 10. A close 7 at least.

The first thing that strikes you about this game is how beautiful and well-crafted the set-pieces are, down to the individual cloth textures. At the time of its release, it's no doubt the most visually impressive game on console. I found this game fun because I like narrative driven third person shooter experiences. The game is very linear and somewhat brief (my experience was about 9 hours on hard), but the entire experience is cogent. They seemed to have nailed the cinematic experience they said they were going for, with the persistent anamorphic presentation lending itself beautifully to flowing from gameplay to cutscene and back. Gameplay is similar to other good third person shooters, and you shouldn't expect anything too particularly innovative. The selection of enemies is rather small, and there are some QTE situations, but I did not find them frustrating like they can be in some games. Enemy AI is smart and will definitely flank you. The story is good, but not great in any single aspect. The characters aren't given to cliches and it has several strong women characters who are not simply there for decoration. This game really does well setting up a universe for other games, perhaps being scant on length or exposition to the game's detriment. Replayability will hinge solely on whether you want to experience the gameplay and story again. All trophies/achievements can be had in a single playthrough, and there is no multiplayer. I found myself enjoying the gameplay elements, being constantly wowed by the graphics and setpieces, and content with the story, even if it did not wow me in any regard. The potential for werewolves/vampires mixed with Knights of the Round Table in a steampunk setting obviously has a lot of promise in theory. If you're conscious about value, this may be a good pickup between 20 and 30 given how limited your time may be with the game.

A very good game overall lasting anywhere 6-9 hours depending on how much you want to explore. Game pretty much consists of shooting segments, walking/exploring, cutscenes, and QTE's. A pretty linear game with not too many paths branching out. Graphically the game is simply gorgeous. The cutscenes are amazing and the sound quality is outstanding. The old English Victorian setting makes it seem like your really there! The guns are pretty cool except you can only use them when the game lets you. Games ends on sort of a cliffhanger, implying that there'll be a sequel. A worthile trip.

A great mix of stealth and action sequences with great level layout. Awesome beautiful world ...That you can't explore! You want to go through every corner but you are limited to what you can explore. Great developing story that keeps your interest... but too many cut aways to keep you from the action. At one point I just set down the controller. About 7-8 hrs of game play. I enjoyed the game and will play it again down the road. I would recommend playing but expect to love/hate it all the same.

this game has an exceptional amount of polish. the graphics are fantastic, and it has a decent story. Gameplay is standard 3rd person cover-shooter, but the cool weapons add a bit of freshness. The game can be finished rather quickly (6-8 hours) and offers little replay value. If you enjoy exploring vast open worlds and non linear gameplay, skip this one, but if you're looking for a straightforward, cinematic action game to smash over a week(end) or so, this is worth your time.

The game is gorgeous, has a great story, characters and set up. Unfortunately, there are too many quick time events and the controls are not as responsive for a modern 3rd person shooter. The game is extremely linear and lacks replay value. I did enjoy my time with the game and mildly recommend for fans of the genre..

Good points: Graphics are awesome, visuals and environment keep your interest. Cover based shooting similar to Gears of War. Story is interesting. Good voice acting Bad points: pacing issues, becomes repetitive at times (most current games suffer from this). Think of it like an interactive movie. Take breaks, and have fun. The Order 1886 is a stunningly beautiful game. From physically based textures to impressive character models, it's the best looking game so far of this console generation. The story is fairly interesting historical science fiction, with some strong characters of both genders. It doesn't break new ground in narrative or emotional moments like The Last of Us, for example. The game runs at a very stable 30 fps and I encountered no glitches at all. The amount of overall polish was impressive. The third person shooting elements are quite fun and it has some interesting weapons. It does feature quick time elements in gaming, and while there is some repetition, I found it generally did help elevate the tension at key moments. The game is fairly short, taking me around 9 hours on the hard difficulty, which is what I recommend most shooting game veterans to play. There's not much replay value unless you want the platinum or really enjoy the game for special reasons, as there's no co-op or MP.

I really enjoyed this game and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good story and doesn't mind a linear game. If you are mainly into open world games such as GTA or Saints Row this is probably not the game for you. The Order is visually stunning and the voice acting is top notch. The combat is fluid and the cover mechanics work very well. There are the standard pistols, shotguns, and machine guns but there are also the science weapons which bring a nice twist to the arsenal. The game is about 7 to 9 hours long and has limited replayability so if that is important to you than you may want to look elsewhere or wait for a price drop. I really hope that the developer makes a sequel to this game as some minor tweaks to the formula would improve upon this great foundation as the story sets itself up for one. The comparison I think of is the first Assassin's Creed game. A good game with flaws but a great proof of concept that deserves a sequel.

Let's get one thing straight, The Order: 1886 is an extremely short game, but that is not to say it is by any means a bad game. No game in 2015 has had more criticism from reviewers and fans than The Order due to the length of the game. If you rush through the game, you might be able to beat the game in about 6 to 7 hours, however this is not what I experienced. In the end I played this game, from start to finish, for about 14-15 hours, and I was not stumbling around looking for hidden items trying to artificially inflate the length of the game. I expected the game to end quickly, and was hoping to run through it just as quick so that I could move onto the next game in my backlog. What I was given in return was a game that started out somewhat slow, and built up to a couple of action packed final chapters. I believe this game could have used some more time being developed and less time being polished. The game is absolutely BEAUTIFUL, but some aspects of the early gameplay left me criticizing the game in very much the same vain as everyone else. From the very first level I was met with a slew of cutscenes with virtually no player interaction in between. Take 3 steps, cutscene, take 3 more steps, cutscene, 3 more steps, yet another cut scene. This was very frustrating when I couldn’t tell whether or not I was in control of the game, but I kept playing, hoping I would at least be rewarded with a grand story. Slowly but surely, the story started to get better, as did the gameplay. The first third of the game was somewhat slower paced, kind of like a good drama building a solid foundation. You start off the game having to escape from prison, leaping to certain doom only to fade into a flashback. The middle chapters explained the story behind how you ended up in prison. While the final chapters explode with action before your final battle with leader of the Lichen. It was at this point, when I got to the last 5 chapters out of 15, that I started to understand what Ready At Dawn were trying to do. And with each chapter I found myself eager to finish the story, not to get it over with, but because I was genuinely interested in how the story would end. For many the next big question involves the gameplay, a lot of people balked at the sight of Quick Time Events. QTE’s are half cutscene, half controlled by the player, where time may slow for a few seconds waiting for the player to respond by pressing a button. Press the wrong button and your character might get eaten by a lichen(basically a werewolf), however if you press the correct button you will dodge the lichens attack and continue the fight. While I will admit there are a bit too many of these sequences during the game, I did not find them that excessive. A large portion of the first half of the game seems to have a more exploratory style of gameplay, you’ll find yourself looking for clues or examining objects more often, while the second half seems to have more fights with both lichen and rebels. It is these battles with the rebels that the pace picks up, battles become more intense the further you get into the game. Fights with the lichen are even more intense, usually you’ll fight only 2 or 3 at a time, but it only takes about 2 hits from one before you die, so you’ll have to be sure to dodge in time. I found myself seeking out a corner that offered a good view of my surroundings so I could have time to locate and shoot a lichen when it charged, yet still have enough time to dodge. If you down a lichen, make sure you run up and finish him quickly though, they will recover after a few seconds and they are very tough to defeat. Final Word: Like the game, my review will be short but sweet. I honestly think that many who have played this game have not yet finished it, including many of the reviewers who panned this title. While I cannot say I would recommend this game at full price, I do believe the game is an excellent purchase at $40 or less, and would urge anyone with an open mind to give the game a try, and not to give up on this title after the first couple of levels. This game has a lot of entertainment value to offer in a small package.

This game has a lot going for it, but it lacks that polish that a major developer is expected to provide. The story is wonderful, the graphics are quite possibly the best out there on PS4, and the combat is fun. The biggest problems I had with this game were the slow pace of gameplay when not in combat and the fact that it only lasts about seven hours with virtually no reason to want to replay it. This game tells an intriguing story that makes me hope there is eventually a sequel, but it ends much too soon. I thoroughly enjoyed the ten hours I spent with this game beating it and finding all of the collectibles, but there is just little reason to replay it once you know the full story. At best, it is worthy of two play-throughs. If you can get it at a cheap price, it is well worth the money. Just be sure you know how much time you can expect to get out of it so you are not disappointed.

I read a lot of the reviews before buying this game and I was concerned that it would be too short or, as a lot of reviews have stated, boring. I really enjoyed this game. The story is good, the graphics are some of the best I have ever seen and the game play is a lot of fun. Good cover based shooting mechanics. The voice acting is excellent and helps bring you into the story. this is a fun game to play. I don't always need a 40+ hour game where you spend half the time wandering around doing endless side missions. Sometimes I just want to play a game with a good story, shoot stuff and call it a day.
