I have wanted a racing wheel for many years and am happy to have the Thrustmaster T248. It is very well built, with responsive steering, force feedback, and fantastic adjustable pedals. I am using it on my PC, and with Windows 11 it was plug and play. So far, I have discovered that there are very few games with native support for its features like the built-in dashboard screen and steering feedback, but it can still be used even in games that don’t have the native support. I have played mostly Forza Horizon 5 with it, and it has been a lot of fun to experience a game like that with a wheel. I did have to spend some time adjusting the controls to get things working perfectly but that is the game not the wheel itself. I do have some minor complaints, setting it up was not completely easy particularly since the instructions are nearly useless, and the paddle shifters are very loud. The pedals don’t stay put well on my hard floor despite the rubber feet on the bottom. I am sure that to get the full experience I will need a mount system to keep everything in place and make clamping the wheel itself down a one-time affair since it’s a bit arduous to move it around when I want to get back to using my desk for other things. As far as playing goes it is smooth and responsive, the force feedback is great, and the pedals feel nice. If you have the right games and are willing to shell out for more gear like a mount, then you’ll have a great experience with this wheel. With all that in mind it is a nice addition to my setup, and I am looking forward to getting more time in and getting better with it. If you’re in the market for a racing wheel and know that its more involved than just the wheel alone then I recommend this one.

Good wheel, lack of compatible games

I’ve always wanted to own my very own arcade racing set up, and with the Thrustmaster T248 I have finally fulfilled one of my childhood dreams, only to realized there is a lot more to it than just the wheel and pedals… Inside the box contains the nice faux leather-wrapped steering wheel that comes attached to the base. Underneath that are the magnetic pedals which attaches to the floor base. The pedals look and feel amazing. They are made of a nice quality brushed metal, and the brakes have a spring installed to give resistance. It really feels like real pedals in a car. There is also an additional spring that can be swapped out for a different look and feel. There is also an attachment that hooks the steering wheel to the desks. Side note, if you’re looking to set this in your lap and play while sitting on the couch, this is not the steering wheel for that. This requires a flat desk to install it to. The nice thing about the T248, is that its compatible with PC, PS4 and PS5. Setting it up with a PC requires a little more work than just plug and play. You will need to download the software and drivers from the website, in order play with it. Mounting the wheel to my desk wasn’t as fast as it could have been, that’s partly due to the instructions (or lack thereof). When I finally did get it mounted, that’s when I noticed there’s a lot more involved than just the racing wheel. The company offers many different add-ons that make the racing sim more enjoyable, but it doesn’t come cheap. You can purchase the shifter add-on and base, which costs about as much as the wheel itself…You can purchase the pedal bracket etc. The biggest complaint that I have with the T248, is the lack of compatibility for racing games. As of now the list for compatible PC games is short. PS4 does have a much longer list of compatible games, but the PS5 has just a handful. I tried this out on an older game; Need for Speed Hot Pursuit – to see how it would play. While the game is not listed as compatible, it still does work. The key features of the T248 are the force feedback, the display, the magnetic paddle shifters to name a few. In order to take advantage of the display, your game must be compatible with it, otherwise the display will just show the letters PC. The force feedback works well, the motors inside the base are powerful and offer many different types of effects, which can be adjusted in the downloaded software. The paddle shifters are rather difficult to use, especially while having to turn the wheel. Unless you have the pedal stand or have an alternative – the pedals will slip away from your feet making it hard to play. Overall, the Thrustmaster T248 is a good entry level racing wheel that provides some good features. Like the powerful force feedback, the magnetic pedals, the LCD display, good build quality, etc. But in order to get the full experience of a racing sim (the shifter, pedal stand, shifter clamp etc.), you’re going to have to be willing to spend a lot more money. Unfortunately, it has a small list of games that are compatible with it. While there are many games that work even know they’re not compatible, the features that makes this product what it is – don’t work. Therefore, it’s hard for me to recommend spending this much of an investment on something that has limited compatibilities. So, I would have to see a lot more compatible games before I would be able to recommend this.

Let me state up front that I have never had anything like this before for PC gaming. I thought it would be interesting to use something more realistic as a control unit and when the opportunity presented itself I jumped on it. And I am glad I did, so so so different than a keyboard! Night and day. The Thrustmaster T-248 provides for the ultimate driving simulator experience in an extremely well built and realistic manner. Just looking at the steering wheel it feels as close as you can to getting behind the wheel of something real. There are two parts to this set. The wheel with paddle shifters and the pedals to include a clutch. The wheel looks like it is a smaller version of something taken out of a car. Super cool looking. It has all the buttons marked for your PS4/5 play, and works with a PC as well. The grip is like a leather steering wheel and your hand placement falls into place perfectly as you drive. The best part is that you feel the road as you play. The steering wheel responds to what you are doing in the game. Totally makes for an immersive experience. The feedback is instant and really adds to the gameplay. Shifting is smooth and I think there is the ability to add a gearshift to the set up if you don’t like paddle shifters. The steering wheel can be attached to your desk/table and if you attach it correctly it will not move on you while you are playing. It clamps to the table and you can screw it on tight. It is rubberized and it staying put where you place it. This was the one feature I was sort of worried about. But the way you clamp it is really smart and I didn’t feel like I was worried about over doing it. The pedal set up equally well done. You are able to adjust the pressure to suit your preference and desired pressure. There is an extra spring to make the brake harder, but I liked the one on it. The pedals have a nice grip to your foot, and they are respond with the game. One thing to be aware of though. If you are playing on carpet the base does not stay in place well. I have pretty long legs, so I was able to put them up against the wall and it was better. Somethings that would be cool especially at this price point are an upgrade to the buttons and using the wasted space on the mach dash. The buttons are plastic, but have a feel similar to a basic gaming controller. You know the feeling you have when you use the controller that comes with some of the gaming systems, and they you upgrade and buy your own controller? You know the difference in the feeling with the buttons? I would like to see it have that sort of feel. If maybe a rubber covered button similar to those in an actual car. Just an idea. Also the dash is basically just there as an aesthetic and lacks any real function. Maybe do some LED gauges for RPMs? Something cool like that. It would really add to the gameplay. One thing I really want to try with these, is to use them with VR. I don’t have it, but I think that would be really fun. My set up varies from running it on a large screened gaming laptop to a larger monitor on an actual PC. I am pretty new at PC gaming, it is something my daughter and I are doing together. This has been a really fun experience for us both so far. I really do recommend this to anyone wanting an upgraded racing experience. I know there are always things you can add when you get something like this. The things I added are me being picky, and they are in NO WAY a deal breaker for me. I would recommend this to anyone looking to get to that next level gaming experience that will get your fingers off the keyboard. It is a lot of fun and I think you will enjoy it.

This is my first dip into the racing wheel market and I set it up on our PS5. The setup is pretty straight forward and easy but I do wish the cords were a little longer or that part of the wheel was wireless. We have a 65” TV so getting farther back from the TV is helpful. We mounted the wheel to a card table, which is very easy to do and very secure in place once tightened. The wheel itself is very realistic and with the padding has the feel of a real car steering wheel. The pedals have the race car feel with the metal surface and just about the right tension on the springs in my opinion. The pedal platform has grips for a hardwood floor, but for my carpet they do slide a little and I’m not sure how to rectify that. Perhaps a matt like the one under my office chair. For gameplay I tested with Need for Speed and Dirt 5. Both games were compatible with little to no setup and the steering is great with some feedback through the wheel when hitting objects or going offroad. The kids have also tried it out, but it’s a little too sensitive for them as they would over correct and swerve back and forth. There are many buttons and settings on the steering wheel that can seem daunting but serve their purpose. We also do not use manual transmission modes in the games, so the shifting buttons and clutch were not needed but were out of our way, so no issues there. We did have one hiccup while playing, and that was accidently changing the wheel to PC. It took a little while to figure out getting it back to PS5 mode but now we know. So overall pretty satisfied with the look, feel, and performance. The main wish we would have is a longer cord or being wireless for the next version. Now that we have one, we are also looking for games that it would work well with. One games that comes to mind is Nascar, which is one we had avoided in the past but should be a lot easier to drive for longer periods of time.

The look and feel of the Thrustmaster T248 out of the box is superb. I’ve never really owned a steering wheel of this caliber. I’ve played multiple racing games but the fact that this had a display was really neat. You don’t see that unless you pay a full dollar at the arcade and after about 5 minutes of complete defeat against what so happens to be someone “ghost car” it can get pretty pricey and annoying. I started off by playing Dirt 5 and Eurotruck simulator. Something about rally cars and big rigs really gets my adrenaline going. I downloaded the drivers off of the Thrustmaster website and voila, we have liftoff. The paddle shifters were strong. It felt nice to be able to paddle shift once again. Granted that the last time I used paddle shifters was back in 2014 and it was on a real vehicle. It wasn’t the same feeling at all. Sort of stronger than I was used to but I’m not going to count that against this as this is my first time using something like this. Let me tell you what, it felt like I was actually racing. You’re gonna want to change the spring in the brake paddle because it’s pretty hard even for my heavy foot and that took away from the experience I would say. The feedback from the wheel had my heart pumping faster as I drifted on the virtual track. Pretty soon I was sweaty in a 72 degree environment but I blame it on the wheel. You’re limited on the games it’s compatible with but they’re constantly adding games according to the website. It has three force feedback settings that you can toggle on the fly and you can customize what your buttons do. That I can absolutely understands as I am an avid gamer. The only thing that I had to customize was my desk. It wasn’t working with my wheel and wasn’t clamping. I went out and bought a new one. Wish they would have some sort of add-on for lip type desks. Regardless that’s something on the users end in my opinion. The look and feel of the pedals, wheel, etc, were top notch. I’ve only felt leather on the steering wheel in nicer cars. I really can’t put it in words the prestigious craftsmanship the unit was put together with. Really high end. My review may be flawed from the experienced persons point of view. My first experience was an absolute pleasant one and would recommend it for a first setup experience.

Arcade and simulation racing becomes that much more realistic with the Thrustmaster T248 Racing Wheel and Pedals. Whether you’re on a PS4, PS5, or PC, the T248 is designed to free gamers from the control pad or keyboard and immerse them in a one-of-a-kind driving experience. Right out of the box, you’ll notice this is no toy. With an interactive dashboard display, multiple types of force feedback, and dozens of remappable buttons, the Thrustmaster T248 is truly a driver’s delight. The wheel feels stable and solid to grip, with easily reachable hand gear shifts and purposeful button placement. The racing wheel attaches to a desktop or coffee table via a clamp for secure, jostle-free play. The pedals could grip a little better on the bottom, but overall its heaviness should allow it to sit undisturbed on a carpet. I would suggest securing the pedals with better, rubberized material if using on hardwood or other non-textured flooring to prevent it from slipping. These pedals have excellent pressure for precise responsiveness. You will spend most of your time re-learning how to drive and getting the feel of the wheel and pedals – not surprisingly, just like a real car. Luckily, the T248 is easy to start up (plug and play everything) so there’s no time wasted on installation and setup. The driving experience stands out the most with the T248. While arcade-style games tend to feel more erratic or out-of-control with driving wheels, sim-style games ask you to hone your skills and precision behind the wheel. This is perfect with the Thrustmaster T248. For both types of games, the T248 does it’s best to keep you focused on the game with its modifiable force feedback options. Whether you’re a novice driver or a seasoned pro, there’s a setting for you that will let you feel all the effects that you want to feel on your drive. The Thrustmaster T248 is officially licensed for the PS5 and PS4, but it is compatible with PC as well. With a growing list of compatible games, it is the perfect accessory to get both the arcade feel or a genuine driving sim experience. It’s a great addition to your gaming lifestyle. Full disclosure, I received this product for my honest, unbiased review.

Received product as part of the Bestbuy Tech Insider Network. When I was notified I was able to participle in this promo, I was excited as I wanted to start getting into beginner sim racing with F1 2021 and Dirt 5 on PS5. Overall it's a good setup, but mostly because of the pedals. The wheel is decent, but has a couple things that spoil the experience. Pros: - Pedals are great, has great feel and can be adjusted with the included extra spring to make brake pedal more firm - Hybrid drive system in the wheel, to me, feels great. - T-RDD display on wheel is highly customizable and can provide great data. Cons: - Too many buttons on steering wheel, accidental presses will happen and when they do, they can make the steering unresponsive until you figure out what you did wrong. - Paddle shifters are complete garbage, I can think of two setups that are cheaper that have better paddles that provide a better sound, feel and experience. - T-RDD system, too much information. - Force Feedback - I turned it either completely off or nearly off because it's too over boosted.

GOOD - Strong force-feedback drive - Well constructed, comfortable wheel - Very customizable on PC BAD - Wheel clamp doesn't work on desks with lips and ront support beams - Pedals don't stay still on floor - Very limited PlayStation compatibility - Short USB cable for living room use - Loud shifting paddles - Poor documentation As a product in itself, the T248 is pretty good. The wheel is constructed well, has a comfortable grip, and the buttons are placed smartly for quick and easy actuation. The paddle shifters have a nice, crisp magnetic actuation, but are very clacky and loud. The wheel does have a display unit, which isn't common on the less expensive wheel controllers, and can be used to display various things like speed, RPMs, and other info. More on that display later. The pedal base and arms are plastic, but pretty sturdy, and the pedals themselves are a nice brushed aluminum. You can adjust the pedal face spacing on the arms and the brake pedal has an adjustable spring ( two different springs with a spacer for four stiffness levels . The throttle and clutch pedals can't be adjusted unless you do some rudimentary modding yourself. It's fairly straightforward to setup. The steering wheel has its own wall power brick and connects to your PlayStation or computer with a USB cable. The pedal unit connects to wheel using a proprietary cable, and the wheel unit has an additional DIN connector so you can add a shifter or e-brake module to the system. The wheel then clamps to a table or desk and the pedal unit sits on the floor. All the cable connectors on the wheel are un the underside, so you must wire everything up before mounting it, which is annoying. However, to use the system well requires a lot more time and money than one might originally think. Logitech claims the drive system is 70% more powerful than their previous model, and that seems true as it can generate some very strong force feedback effects. However, that also means the wheel needs to be mounted very sturdily. A typical computer desk or kitchen table will suffice, but if you want to clamp this on folding table or TV tray so you can play on your couch, forget it. The clamp won't work well on desks or tables that have a roll lip or support boards on the edge. The pedals are, frankly, unusable just left on the floor. Even when adjusted to the lightest resistance, the brake pedal is very stiff. The pedal unit will move around more than your Rock Band drum kit. The base has rubber feet, but isn't heavy enough to stay put on its own on hard floors. It doesn't have any sort of hooks or claws to grip carpet. Bracing it against a wall helps a little, but the unit will still rock back and lift up at the front when you press the pedals. Like the wheel, they need to be securely mounted to actually use. The frames on both the wheel and pedals have standard M6 threaded holes for bolting them to other surfaces, and that's the real crux of the T248. Though it's supposedly marketed as an "entry-level" or "low-budget" FF wheel, it's designed to be used in sim racing frames and cockpits. Even if you don't go for a full simulation setup with surround displays and a 5-point harness seat, you're still looking at a couple hundred dollars to buy a basic frame for the wheel and pedals. If you've got carpentry or welding skills, you can make yourself one for less, but that's still costly in materials and especially time. Gaming compatibility can be a mixed bag, depending on platform. On PC, you can use it pretty much however you want since you have full access to the device's control panel and configuration. Sadly, the documentation explaining things is practically non-existent. Case in point, the manual uses "encoders" in different ways, talking both about settings for FF encoder strength curves, and again in talking about four different encoders. The first one made sense to me, as I know an encoder is a circuit that interprets FF commands and converts it into instructions to the FF motors. The second I thought meant the wheel had four different encoder units that would change the feel ( not just the strength ) of the various FF effects. After much searching on YouTube and Reddit, they're just four different profiles for programmable buttons. Some PC games have native presets specifically for the T248, making configuration for the game easier. Other games will require you to manually map the various axes and buttons to the controls. Some people have reported problems with some game compatibility ( often Forza Horizon 4 ), but I haven't seen any in the few games I've tried, including FH4. I did immediately upgrade to firmware 2.0 after getting the wheel, so perhaps that solves some of the earlier issues. However, just because a game supports the wheel doesn't mean it supports the wheel's display ( the Thrustmaster site has a list ). On PlayStation 4, compatibility is rather limited. The PS4 itself will recognize the T248 as a controller and you can use it normally in the main system menu to select and launch your games. As on PC, Thrustmaster lists games that support the controller, and a subset of those games that also support the wheel display. I tried it with DiRT 2.0 and had no problems. Sadly, the T248 doesn't work with any game not on Thrustmaster's list ( at least the ones I've tried ). I don't mean you don't get FF effects, other games don't recognize it AT ALL. I was hoping for some kind of generic control mapping, like the steering wheel mapped to the left thumbstick, throttle to R2, brake to L2, etc, with no FF effects, but at least normal wheel centering. But not even the steering wheel face buttons will work when in a non-supported game. I understand the wheel is mainly meant for in-depth simulation racers, but it'd be nice if it could also work with more casual games like Burnout Paradise, Wipeout, even Horizon Chase. Gaming performance and FF fidelity largely depends on the game you're playing. On Forza Horizon 4 on PC, I had no problem. Some minor tweaks and most things felt right, if a bit squirrelly. Also keep in mind on PC it will be a combination of how you configured the device in its own control panel and the game's own settings. In DiRT 2.0 on PS4, it felt very rough and stiff. Even after lowering the FF settings in game, I still felt I was wrestling the wheel the entire time. It's good to know the wheel's drive is strong enough to do that, bad that games specifically meant to support it don't have better default configurations for it. As to whether I'd recommend this to someone else is very situational. For someone looking for a fun peripheral for living room gaming, absolutely not. The cost of the T248 itself is almost as much as the gaming console you're playing on. The supplied USB cable is rather short, only 2m, so reaching from your TV to a chair or couch is iffy ( at this price I don't know why there isn't a wireless option ). Add in the cost for some kind of basic frame and mount and that's a lot of money. Such a frame also makes it a semi-permanent fixture in a room, not something you can easily pull out of the closet when you want to do some racing. And considering the limited compatibility for console racing games, I can't see that being worth it. For someone looking to get into more dedicated sim racing on PC, it's a different matter. The wheel can mount well enough to most computer desks and it wouldn't be difficult to frame up a simple brace to secure the pedals to the floor or desk legs. Compatibility and flexibility on PC is much better than console, so you can use it on many more games. Its current price is fair, but if Thrustmaster dropped it by $50 ( or if you can find it on sale ) it's much more compelling. If you're already deep into sim racing and you're considering a dedicated racing setup, I would say the T248 might not be enough. Even a basic cockpit setup, including the cockpit frame, wheel, shifter, pedals, and other accessories is going to run you $600ish or more. If you're already spending that much, rather than buying a T248 now and then spending more to upgrade shortly down the road, you might be better off paying a little more upfront for a more premium wheel, one that's larger and features a quick-disconnect.

There are a lot of good steering wheel and pedal sets out on the market. I think each has it’s own following. I’ve been pretty loyal to another brand but I was anxious to try out something from Thrustmaster as I consider their gaming peripherals some of the best made. The T248 for PC/PS5 is a great setup out of the box. I don’t console game very often so my experience is based on my PC setup. I have a Playseat Evolution racing sim platform which I bolted the T248 to. Some of the holes didn’t align right so I had to settle for only 2 screws to hold the pedals to the frame. I did notice that the wheel protruded back more as opposed to the other brand wheel/pedal set I had. Not a big issue since the Playseat is adjustable and I just extended the frame to compensate. If you are setting up a racing sim platform with seat from scratch you shouldn’t experience any issues as most accept all major wheel/pedal sets. For the PC I did have to download the Thrustmaster software to be able to program all of the wheel buttons. This is where I have my first issue. It would be really nice if Thrustmaster included profiles for all compatible racing game titles but instead you have to configure the controls yourself in each game. I ran Assetto Corssa Competizone and I was dismayed that I had to set up all of the buttons. I need to try other games as the games themselves might have pre-configured controls. Once connected and configured I did like the feel of the wheel and layout of the buttons. The included T3PM pedals where responsive and I found the effort required for throttle and brake were good. Thrustmaster includes a stiffer spring for the brake pedal if you like a bit more resistance. The force feedback made for a good driving experience although I did find myself oversteering from time to time. The shifters are placed in easy reach while keeping both hands on the wheel but the second issue I have with this wheel is the switches used on the shifters have a very audible click, sometimes annoying. They are responsive and have great tactile feel but that click for each shift could be toned down some for my personal taste. Maybe it just makes me justify wearing a headset while racing. The biggest complaint I have is the price. At $400 for a “starter” set is a bit much. What makes it worse is the add-ons. If you prefer a stick shifter it’s another $200 (another brand has theirs for less than $60). While extremely cool and I don’t know how many others offer a handbrake (which is extremely helpful if you like drift racing) that’s another $240. If you are clamping the steering wheel to a desk and you want to use either the handbrake of the stick shift you may need the racing clamp which is another $130. They also offer a pedal stand for another $80. So, depending on your sim racing setup you need to take into consideration what the add-ons will cost you on top of the pretty steep original purchase price. I will admit though, being able to purchase optional components to up your game might not be a bad deal. Before making the purchase do your homework and make sure you are purchasing a wheel and pedal set that meets your current and future needs. I can see the handbrake option a big plus if you are into drift racing otherwise you might be better off financially with something else.

    Best bang/$ full sim-racing setup for <≈$300!!!

The Thrustmaster T248 is an absolutely fantastic force feedback sim-racing wheel + pedals setup with an even MORE fantastic price (whenever on sale for <≈$300, that is), with only a few handful of notable flaws that are thankfully mostly fixable by the end user! First off, when compared to ANYTHING/EVERYTHING else available in this price range (≈$200-$300), the Thrustmaster T248 absolutely CURB-STOMPS the competition where it actually counts! Aka, in the internal motor & pedal technology, where it absolutely WIPES THE DANG FLOOR w/ Logitech's G29/920/923!!! (TM T248 = MUCH smoother gear + belt hybrid motor w/ ≈3.5nm peak torque/power + adjustable & 100% wear-free magnetic Hall effect sensor pedals. Logi G29/920/923 = MUCH grindier & grittier feeling gear-only motor design literally dating back to 2005, with an absolutely PATHETIC ≈2nm [G29/920] up to a mere ≈2.5nm [G923] peak torque, paired with unadjustable & guaranteed to eventually fail potentiometer using pedals.) Thrustmaster otoh made a VERY DELIBERATE decision to go with a cheaper bill of materials made out of mostly plastic for the actual wheel & wheelbase compared to the competition (aka vs Logi's mix of mostly plastic AND some aluminum metal) in exchange for putting in a VASTLY more advanced, capable, & powerful gear + belt hybrid motor. Meaning that while the T248 might look & feel "cheaper" when not actually in use, when the motor's actually driving it (aka it's actually being used), it is absolutely MIIIIIIIIILES ahead of Logitech's offerings!!! The only other major flaw that the T248 has besides its plastic construction, are its infamous RIDICULOUSLY LOUD magnetic paddle shifters, but thankfully these are STUPID CHEAP & EASY TO FIX!!! How & why? Turns out the noise doesn't actually happen from the paddle "acuating" (aka activating/"clicking"), but rather when it slams back super hard into its resting position. As such, all you need to do is put something behind each paddle to dampen the return impact, & thus sound. I use mechanical keyboard dampener O-rings (1x behind each paddle) but countless others use all sorts of stuff from normal rubber bands to strips of felt to layers of electrical tape.

The Thrustmaster T248 Racing Wheel and Pedals are an overall good package for the person who would like to step up playing racing games with a controller but would like something more than just entry-level. I tested this primarily with the PS5, which was absolutely seamless in getting set up. It's plug and play. I found that I don't own any PC games on the compatible list, so while Windows 11 detected the wheel just fine, I didn't have any games I could test it with. I'm sure this list will expand with time. That said, my gaming is split mainly between PS5 and PC as this hits combination typically hits the widest possible number of games, and I found the PC support needing to be beefed up a bit. Physically the wheel is fairly easy to attach to a table--I use a small folding table that *just* has enough strength to counter the force feedback. A single large bolt attaches the rubberized mounting bracket underneath, so there should be little worry about scuffing up wood. Wiring is simple: connection to the pedals, USB to the PS5, and power. Cables are decently long; I wish they had been just every so slightly longer, but they worked fine. The wheel itself is a good size, not too big or small. The outer rim of the wheel is a slightly soft plastic that has just a little give, but the inner rim of the wheel is fairly hard plastic. A faux-leather theme here might have given a nicer feel. There are a plethora of buttons and switches, and behind the wheel are the two paddle shifters. The shifters seem sturdy and a very responsive, but they have unfortunately loud click when shifting. Above the Thrustmaster logo on the wheel is a small LCD screen that lets you choose modes (PC/PS4/PS5), and in games that support it, provide in-game information. (Dirt 5 on PS5 is one such game, and it does work). The wheel's force feedback hybrid system is pretty good; it feels less ratchet-like than my Logitech G29. I tested this with a PS5, mainly playing the PS5 version of Dirt 5 and the upscaled GT Sport (PS4). If you have only played these games with a controller, this is a major, major step up. Of course, the price is close to that of a console itself, but wheels are an investment and if you want to take the next step up, it provides a huge jump in immersion. I liked the wheel. But I loved the pedals. They felt really good, and are adjustable, either by moving the pedals, or you can substitute in the extra spring for a stiffer feel in the brake. They don't mount to anything, so depending on your floor, they might have a tendency to move about. I was on carpet and they moved a little as I played, but overall they stayed in place pretty well given how much pressure was being applied to them. The nice compatibility--PS4, PS5, PC--make this a versatile peripheral for the racing game enthusiast. If you haven't gotten your hands on a PS5 yet, it'll work with your PS4 or PC. If you have a PS5 you get the latest plus last gen games like GT Sport. And of course, Gran Turismo 7 is due out later this year, so this will be an ideal companion to that game. This is an overall very nice package, with a very good wheel and excellent pedals, and it's been a great deal of fun to use. Recommended.

I wanted to try the Thrustmaster T248 after using the Logitech G923 wheel for a while. I was prepared for this to be a huge upgrade. In some ways, it is. In others, it's not. Right out of the box, setup is quick and easy. It's just plug and play (I use it on the PS5). I used it with several games, some being older and not having as many options as newer games. The outer half of the wheel on the Thrustmaster T248 is a leathery feel, while the inner half is plastic. There is a huge seam between the two. Over time the plastic just isn't comfortable to hold and the seam will dig into your hands. There are a ton of buttons. Thankfully, you can use button mapping in games to change which button does what. Whereas square was the emergency brake, I changed it to be the circle button so it was quicker and easier to get to. Luckily, I was home alone when I first used it. I always prefer to shift in games. I like controlling when I shift. However, not with this wheel. The shifter paddles use magnets and are clunky and extremely loud. I can hear them clanking through my headset. Normally I only hear the game sounds through my headset. This was a huge step backwards. There's no reason for them to be so loud. They could have used rubber bumpers or something. I'll only use this wheel driving with the transmission set to automatic. The screen is nice, with several options for what it displays (depending on the game). It can be shift lights, speed, your position in the race, etc. However, with the wheel that far below me, it's too far to move my eyes to see it. I just use it as shift lights. Out of my peripheral I can see when most of it is lit up. The pedals have a great feel. The brake pedal comes with a second spring so you can "tighten" it if you want to. I honestly haven't tried it as the stock setup suits me perfectly. The pedals themselves are adjustable. The drilled holes allow you to slide them over or up and down to suit your setup style. The throttle pedal can be flipped if you want it to have more lean to it. I set up the wheel on the coffee table with a center that comes out and up from the table. The height is perfect. However, the pedals push up against the base of the table. They do have pads under them to keep them from sliding, but they don't hold on my carpet. I'm probably going to end up getting a wheel stand to avoid damaging the table. The force feedback is good, but the rumbles (hitting bumps in the game, gravel, etc.) are more of a lighter vibration. This wheel fights you a lot to turn it. A lot more so than my real car that weighs about 3,500 pounds, but then when you lose traction it gets really light as it should. Overall, I like it, but there is still room for improvement. Pros: Quick and easy setup Good feedback A lot of buttons (great for games that have everything down to buttons for the windshield wipers) Great peddle feel Cons: Super loud shifter paddles Pedals slide easily on carpet Half plastic inner portion of the wheel Slower return to center than most (not great for drifting) If you've never had a wheel, this would be a great start. It has a lot of features. I would recommend getting a wheel stand for it.

I can't go back to a normal controller now

PROS: - Excellent force feedback - Customizable options - Adjustable peddle heights - Adjustable brake resistance - Helpful dashboard display - Works with your PS4/5 and PC CONS: - Slides around hardwood floor - Shift paddles are really loud - Limited amount of supported games -- SETUP -- I would HIGHLY recommend using this with a racing wheel stand, Thrustmaster has the mount placement to let you use this with almost any universal stand on the market. I recommend a stand due to how much the pedal base slides around my hardwood floor (even with the rubber pads Thrustmaster includes). When on carpet, the rubber pads work well enough, so this really depends on where you plan on playing. Once you connect and power on the T248, you'll want to use the left menu button to select which system you're connected to. You just cycle between PS4, PS5, and PC. When connected to my PS4, the system would flat-out ignore the T248 until I selected the system on the wheel. It WILL NOT automatically detect what system it's connected to. -- PLAYING GAMES -- Unfortunately, you can't use the T248 with ANY racing game at the moment. Thrustmaster's website has a list of all games that are supported, and they're adding more games over time. If you're a big F1 fan, then you're in luck! When you are playing a supported title, such as Dirt 5, it's going to be almost impossible to go back to using a standard controller again. The level of immersion you gain from the force feedback is insane. If you have a VR headset, you'll LOVE adding the T248 to your system. The force feedback is really impressively powerful, so much so, that I'm curious to see how well the T248 holds up over time. I'm a little worried that it's going to rumble/vibrate itself to death at some point in the future. -- FINAL THOUGHTS -- I really love the T248, it takes playing racing games to a whole new level. I DARE you to use this and NOT smile. It's not perfect though: I really wish the rubber pads did a better job of keeping the pedal base in one spot on hardwood floors, the paddle shifters are really loud, and I need to wait for some of my favorite racing games to be supported at a later date. All of those are solved by using a racing wheel stand (easy enough to find online), a good pair of headphones, and a little patience while the list of supported games grows over time.

    It’s nice, but it’s different

I’ve used racing wheels of a different brand, so this is my first Thrustmaster wheel. Setup was pretty easy to my desk and was ready to plug in into the wall and my PS4… And there was my first issue. The USB and power cords were a little short. I had pull my PS4 closer to the wheel and had to find a different wall plug to power the wheel. Once past that minor issue, I was playing to play. I fired up F1 2021 and tested it out. The settings were similar to my previous wheel. If anything, it took me a while to get used to some buttons being is different positions. I tried a time trial and I went into turn 1….and the pedals moved and slipped across the carpet. There are feet on the pedals, but they’re no good on carpet. Luckily, we own carpet tape. Placed the carpet tape on the base of the pedals and the pedals stayed in place. If you don’t have carpet tape, a yoga mat will also work to provide grip. My other issue are the paddle shifters. The paddles are LOUD. They work, but they are LOUD. My last issue is the wheel itself. The outer part of the wheel has a leather feel, but the inner wheel is hard plastic and there’s no give. After a while, the hardness of the inner wheel does hurt my hands a little. Now that I’m done complaining, let’s talk what I like. The force feedback is very good as well as the wheel reaction. The one plus this wheel to my other wheel is you swap out the spring for the brake and make it tighter. Just changing the spring, I found an extra 2/10s of a second on one track. The next day, I tried using the wheel on Gran Turismo Sport. I honestly felt I had a better feel and reaction with GTS than I did with F1 2021. I feel that I’m getting more comfortable with the Thrustmaster T248 the more I use it. Overall, the wheel feels better, and sometimes different can be a good thing.

The T248 exceeded my expectations! I fired up Forza horizon 5, and while the telemetry screen didn't work, the game detected it right away! The feedback is amazing, the wheel feel is phenomenal. The brake pedal is a bit stiff, even on the weakest setup, so make sure you're against a wall or mounting your pedals. The paddle shifters have a stuff and authentic click, but I'm usually on automatic mode.
