I replaced a Samsung with this and was very pleased with the picture quality. My old TV lacked an output for a sound bar. Setup was a breeze and it was a good upgrade. The sale price made it a great deal. It is a secondary tv sitting in my sun room. Great product.

I have to preface my review by disclosing that 1) this is my first HDTV set and 2) the week I bought it, it was deeply discounted, which made it less expensive than many smaller sets with fewer features. So your perception and value will vary. I needed to replace a TV in a playroom frequented by toddlers. Since most TV sets nowadays are big, wide, flat and lightweight, the new set needed to be mounted on a wall, and needed to be high enough that the kiddies can't get at it. Since the set is that much further away and higher up from where we watch than the old set was, it was really nice to find a larger set for less money. Once we got the mounting bracket installed and the set hung on it, setup was a snap, thanks to a wizard that launches the first time you turn the set on. I had to play around a bit with the color settings to make it right for the room (the room isn't well lit, so the default color settings looked garish). The only other setting I needed to change was for the aspect ratio. We watch programs from multiple sources, including cable TV, an old VCR, standard DVDs, Blu-Ray DVDs and the Internet. I had to explore the set's menus in order to find it, but this model has a setting that automatically changes the aspect ratio to match your video source. Based on my passing experiences with earlier HDTV sets, which did not have this feature, I have to say that I absolutely love it! It doesn't completely fix the problem of older video, especially low-resolution ones coming from VHS tapes, looking grainy and blurry on new HDTV sets, but it sure helps a lot. At least the picture doesn't look distorted. We only have a few Blu-Ray DVDs, and we don't pay for an HD package from our cable provider, so for us, this set really shines when viewing video from the Internet. That last comment should have you scratching your head, because you probably already know that this is not a SMART TV, and you may already know that it has no wired or wireless network connections. So, how are we viewing video from the Internet on this set? You do it by plugging a smart device into one of the HDMI or USB ports on the set. That device can be a Smart TV adapter like Chromecast, an Internet TV device like Roku or Apple TV, a laptop computer that's connected to your wi-fi network, or a Smart DVD player, which is what we're doing. A word about connections: This set has a single coaxial port for regular cable TV, one set of composite jacks for newer cable TV boxes or a VCR (we have our VCR connected to the composite jacks), two USB ports and three HDMI ports. We have our Smart DVD player connected to one of the HDMI ports, and a spare HDMI cable for plugging a laptop computer into a second HDMI port. Finally, why only 4 stars after such a glowing review? Remember what I said about my perspective: this is my first HDTV set. However, I know from looking around in the store that this model only gives a 1080p HD picture. That's fine for my purposes, but more discerning viewers would probably be happier with the newer, higher-resolution HD technologies.
