Removed one star because there is no power switch or light to control the UAB drive. It has a reasonable fast transfer speed. Runs quite and cool without fan. I bought this USB drive to store Acronis backups and other general files. I have it connected UAB 3.0 to a WD MYCLODEX2ULTRA network drive. It shows up as a Share and works fine. I'm old and wanted to have a lot of my file portable in case have to leave home with out WiFi. IT's big enough to hole what ever you need to move with you. And connected this way it is out of the way.

I am a Photographer/Videographer and I love that I have so much space to upload into my archive and not leave on my computer. It literally has saved me on many occasions. I pull all of my footage from my SD cards from different events and it helps to be able to keep my cards clear. I have already been letting my friends know that this is the best purchase if you want to free up space. Great Product! Danielle

Well...it works! It can be a little loud at times but not too bad. Can't believe 8TB is so cheap today! It sits right on my desk and works like a charm.

This product works as advertised. It is a little bit louder on seeking than I was used to, but after searching, I found this is normal for >6TB drives. I moved it to a spot that did not create an echo chamber and now I can not hear it anymore. It ran at an average speed for USB 3.0. Write speed on Large files copied in the 50Mb/s range, lots of small files were slower. Read speed is good.

Have had it for 1 1/2 years and went from file storage on a network, to my personal network to stream movies off of my router. Always reliable and as fast as the modem can go. No issues yet and it has been plugged in the entire time. It does fall asleep when unused, which is great for long term reliability and power.

Using as a backup HardDrive. Fast installation and very use to use!

Ton of space but setting up seems to be little difficult if you have no ideas about drivers installation. Got to be a geek for normal people. Make a ticking noise which you might find annoying if it's connected all the time. Worth for back up. I trust WD brands. They haven't failed me for last 20 years. I paid only 120 ish with discount and coupons.

I have been using WD disk drives for years and this unit My Book 8TB USB3.0 is ideal, in my case for backing up my data. I have several NAS's at home that backup data from all computers at home.... in this case, the My Book 8TB USB 3.0 was used to backup the backup servers. It is a REAL plug-and-play. No need to format the unit.... perhaps the only thing that I missed, compared to other WD external drives I own is a led light indicating that the drive is on.

Bought this drive to use with a Netgear Nighthawk X10 as a Plex server. Worked easily with at first plug in, and shows up across my network using the readyshare function of the router. Only hiccup seems to be trying to delete media from the drive. I have found that shutting down Plex on the router and then plugging the drive in directly to my PC allows me to make changes.

Needed more space as a videographer. Easy to setup and go.

I bought this to be a Time Machine backer-upper for a MacBook Pro. I formatted the drive to a Macintosh format. Since there's no reason for me to dedicate 8 TB to backing up, I partitioned the drive into 2 3 TB partitions and a 2 TB partition. The Time Machine is one of the 3 TB partitions. I haven't put anything on the other partitions yet. I gave it only 4 stars because it has a power brick. A box as big as this should have the power supply inside of it.
