Solid performance, faster than other drives
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this drive largely based upon a specific need for a USB 3.0 product with 4TB of storage. I've owned many WD internal and external HD products over time and have not had any drive failures to date over many years. I purchased this drive specifically as a backup storage drive attached to a Synology 1813+ NAS unit. This required a reformat to EXT4 as the drive comes natively formated in NTFS. The Synology NAS schedules backup to this drive of selected folder shares using the "Time Backup" software available from Synology. I'm not utilizing any of the software included from WD with this drive (backup, cloud, etc.) as the Synology NAS has its own software for each of these purposes. The drive itself is similar in size to other My Book drives. The plastic casing is certainly not as nice as the aluminum finish on the WD My Book drives that I have for my Macs, but it is similar to the black of the Synology unit and overall looks good. The power adapter is reasonably sized (not a brick), and the unit comes with a USB 3.0 cord for use with its single USB 3.0/2.0 port. WD provides a 2-year warranty with this product.

perfect for data hoarders
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lots of data storage for all your data needs. It's a new hard drive model (not shingled), so long term reliability is unknown. Internally it's a SATA drive, so you may remove it for internal use if you wish (which voids warranty).

So far, so good for 8GB external drive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Reconfiguration for mac / setup was rather quick and easy. No issues at all thus far in a month-plus of daily use, primarily as a music server. I have only been using the USB 2.0 connection thus far, so cannot comment on speed for USB 3.0. Overall reliability should be proven with time, and I will write followup if any issues arise.

Best External Hard Drive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You can't go wrong with an external hard drive from WD. I have owned a few over the years and have never had any problems with them. Completely user friendly. Simply plug and play. I went larger this time due to the sale price, but all their drive sizes are excellent. Highly recommend.

Perfect for lots of storage
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You can't beat the price/performance of this hard drive. I have my entire iTunes library stored on this drive, which is about 3/4 full right now. Not a single problem ever. If I need another one in the future, this is the first place I would go.

Excellent storage/backup device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Highly recommend WD storage devices. This is my third one and I just have to keep buying larger storage to accommodate the vast amount of data available.

Work as expected

Huge amounts of space on this one.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The storage space on this thing is massive. If I had an issue with it it would be the drive spin down and spin up times. Seems to work like the older green drives with excessive power saving spin downs on the drive.

Extra Space to grow
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A large external drive at 8 TB yes, but it allows for 1) Room to grow your files as time goes by, 2) has the space for "multiple" TOTAL backups of your entire computer. I like to keep multiple backups of all my computers including laptops, listed by date so when something goes wrong I have multiple options.

Great Value
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife probably has about 100 DVDs with photos on them. Needed a hard drive that could handle them all. This has the capacity for a great price. Easy to format for the Mac, connected and was up and running in minutes. The perfect addition for the avid photographer in this digital age.

Great external for my Xbox One
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Early review, I haven't had the product long. I have 150+ games for my system. I had filled up a 2 TB WD Passport & tried a 5TB Seagate which died within 6 months. After reading the reviews here and having luck with my Passport I decided to give this unit a go. I've now reinstalled all of my titles and the drive is great. IMO the speed is better matched to the X-1. The install, copy speed, and launch times appear to be faster. I've worked Q/A for a few game companies so I do notice these things though I don't benchmark them anymore. It is quiet & unlike the Seagate (IDKW), it works on a USB 3.0 hub. After I purchased the WD IGN.com reviewed it and said it is the best option out there for the X-1. I highly recommend.
