Bought this for my PS4 but when trying to format, it says this hard drive is not supported. Managed to switch with a different external drive I already had just had to move everything over.

If you need slower but higher capacity external drive then these units that are not SSD are acceptable but don't compare the transfer speed to an SSD or NvME drive.

Many problems setting it up. Had to get a Seagate.

Setup not intuitive. No support from the manufacturer- only the advice to “get help from the online community”. WHAT !! Also, setup online info includes a pitch to SELL an added product. Made it appear that it was part of the setup. Bad (and dishonest) customer service. I returned the product to Best Buy.

I tried to return a faulty hard drive in store, after chatting with Best Buy. I have been told that I must take my laptop to erase the hard drive or leave it there if I want to change it for another one. But I can't leave my hard drive with personal information and the technical team can't erase it without my computer. The hard drive is corrupted but they must erase it in the store before I changed it for another one, my privacy is at stake. And I do not have to carry my laptop, the store must have the means to analyze the failure and, if necessary, delete the private information.
The strange situation is that some of the information is accessible but it is impossible to erase or format the hard disk. I am not required to trust Best Buy by changing my faulty hard drive if it has not been erased before. And explaining that it is inaccessible and impossible to erase by ordinary means is something that they do not understand in the store. It would be better for them to work with engineers when they don't understand this. I must keep an unusable hard disk to preserve the possible information there, but my trust with Best Buy has disappeared.

Each WD Backup device I have purchased has broken. Something as important as a computer backup should be reliable. I give two starts only because the company would good enough to reach out to me after the first bad review, but the company would then only do a replacement if I gave them the broken device, which contained all of the work for my office. I had to therefore take the loss even though I had picture proof and confirmation it burnt out from a BestBuy technician.

Can't make them work on Windows 10

I bought three of these for a project. They all worked fine on my old Windows 7 system, but I could not get them to work at all on either of my new machines (a minipc and a NUC) with Windows 10. I tried various things I found online and even submitted a direct request to WD technical support. Their response was completely useless - all they sent was how to find the online references I had already been through. I returned these drives. I did not need or want the hardware encryption anyway, but the price for these was a bit lower than others. So I bought three WD Easystore drives without the encryption feature and they work just fine on all my systems.

Bought to use with a MacBook before realizing wasn’t compatible easily with macs. Ended up returning for the same brand just max compatible and works great!

I was very unhappy when I tried to use this external drive. It had no directions on how to use it and I couldn't get it to work. All that was included was a Technical Support, Safety and Warranty Guide written in English and many other languages. Thankfully my niece figured it out but it is worthless to me unless she comes over again. When it did backup my laptop there was no setting other than hourly or daily. I only needed to back it up once. Thankfully I have the One Drive which now backs everything up whenever it is changed and I don't have to fight with it or try to figure out how to do it. Not sure if Windows 11 is the problem as I've had the WD My Passport external drive before and never had an issue trying to use it with Windows 7 and 10.

It’s works just as you would think, I’m using it for my PS4. Although I can’t plug it in to a usb hub cuz it needs a direct connection

My favorite reason for buying the WD My Passport range versus any other hard drive is the encryption.
You set a password to access the drive which is perfect for levels of security you might require.

Worked well for a time, then failed before a year was up. Used a data recovery firm after Geek Squad failed to recover data. Independent firm was able to recover some data, but not all. Only gave 2 stars because it did work for a time.
