Installation was easy. You can use manual from cd and download to get all the information how to set up. The unit is good for four surround speakers and a woofer. Sound quality is reasonably good. Reasonable price for a god reliable receiver for home use.

I finally decided to replace my ancient Pioneer Elite VSX-21 (like I said, ancient) and chose this one. My primary concern was the ability to connect my consoles and other devices with minimum fuss, and since everything is HDMI, this had enough inputs to get me going. (6 HDMI)
I have several gaming rigs hooked up (Xbox 360, Xbox1, PS3, Wii U) as well as an Apple TV to stream my hard drive content from my mac and my cable box. This takes up all 6 HDMI inputs, but that's all I need for now. I have a smart TV and if I just want to watch Netflix, I can do that and send the audio signal to the receiver via optical cable so I don't need to turn on any other peripherals which is nice.
There is room for some customization with this thing which is useful. After I hooked up my consoles, I noticed that the receiver recognized them and labeled them accordingly (the display on the receiver showed Xbox1, PS3 etc. without having to do anything.) The Apple TV gave me some weird designation, but you can customize the labels as needed, so now it reads "Apple TV" when it is selected. This can be done with any input as needed. There are numerous surround sound effects to choose from, and you can increase/decrease the volume of any speaker you have hooked up. Sound control was a must for me, and is present as you would expect.
Finally, the remote is great. Compared to my old Pioneer remote, this thing is plain and simple. Nearly everything is on-screen, but the main buttons are for toggling Volume, Input Select, and sound effects. It is light and looks and weighs about the same as a normal TV remote. Nothing confusing here. It is important to note that the instruction manual is on an included disk. Plug it into your computer and you can look up anything you want. Once I got everything hooked up though, I haven't needed to use it. All of the on screen menus are intuitive and easy to manage.
This is a great receiver for anyone that needs to hook up 6 inputs or less and expects clean sound and wants something easy to operate. I have only touched on the features that I have used. The other capabilities, which are many, I haven't mentioned for that reason.
Even for the limited use I am expecting of it, it has met all of my expectations and I think it will meet or exceed yours.

At first, I was very worried because it was having HDCP handshake issues with my old tv. It would flash the picture on and off no matter what was playing and no matter what order I turned things on. If you have an older tv, just keep that in mind. Mine was from 2011. Maybe it didn't have the right HDCP version or something. Who knows?
Anyway, I bought a new tv (XBR850C) and it works flawlessly. HDMI control is perfect.
Sound - Wonderful. Much better than my older Denon 591. There are a ton of sound processing options from just direct pass through to symphony halls. Some of them really good, some I could live without. It's easy enough to change, and it remembers settings based on input.
Looks - it's a black box. Nothing special. The display is clear and easy to read.
Features - It has Bluetooth, AirPlay, networking, and Internet radio. That's more than what you'll usually find at this price. It is only 5.1, and only 1 input had the required HDCP for 4K. You'll have to move to the RX-V679 to find more 4K HDCP inputs. The RX-V379 only has the spring clips for speaker wire for the center and surrounds, no AirPlay, no internet radio, and no networking. The 479 has full binding posts all around with those extra features. Spring the extra money for the 479.

Purchased the Yamaha RX-V479 to replace an older Pioneer receiver that did not have bluetooth or wifi capabilities. The first thing that impressed me was the ease of setup. It found my home network and connected in minutes. The YPAO speaker calibration works very well. It has plenty of clean power and dynamic range. I also like the display on the receiver which can be easily read from a distance. Overall, very happy with my purchase.

Much improved over my old receiver. Switching back from TV source audio when using apps like Netflix to using X1 dvr is not smooth. The smart RAC has some bugs in its switching. Overall a great product though.

I love my Yahama receiver. It has bluetooth and will play the music off of my iphone but it is capable of so much more. It has the capability to be paired with a smart tv, my CD, and DVD players, and can do more than I can even imagine. Even with all these options, it is easy to operate manually or with the remote. I highly recommend this receiver. Oh...and the sound it produces with my Klipsch speakers is incredible!

The sound is much better then the Sony receiver I replaced with this. The iPad App allows me to control the receiver from outside so the music can play in my back yard while the receiver is in my house. The app also allows me to control the inputs so I can switch from Sonos to Apple TV to DirecTV with ease.

I made my first surround sound system purchase in 2004...that receiver didn't even have HDMI inputs...Fast forward to 2016 and it's time to upgrade my system.
This receiver gave me everything I was looking for to go with my new 4K TV, Blu-ray player, Wii U and U-verse. Enough HDMI inputs with some to spare...set up and operation easy enough for beginners to the home theater scene to handle with confidence...awesome that it switches automatically from one input to another when I switch devices. I am very happy with this receiver and a big thanks to the crew in Reno Best Buy for helping with my purchase.

I purchased this receiver to match up with a new 65"' Samsung Curved 4K, 3D Smart TV. In today's world of very complicated set up and connections this was very easy. Sound is awesome and the connectivity to my IPhone through the Bluetooth function was automatic. Excellent functionality and awesome power. I couldn't get a better unit for the price.

It does everything I need and is ready for upgrades if I decide to go that way. It has the 3-D and 4K pass through but my tv is only 1080p w/o 3-D. It has connections for all of the video components in my system: 2x gaming systems, cable box, Apple TV, optional add-one when friends or family bring something over, as well as all the audio I need: all listed above, plus streaming from my mobile devices, separate music streaming devices, turntable. I do miss wh. Yamaha receivers came with built in phono amps but that was nearly 20 years ago or today you can pay an extra grand. Easy to use. I can use an app when the receiver is hooked up to the WiFis.
Only issue to date is that we have to turn it up pretty high to get as loud of sounds as necessary for the room (12x12 plus open to kitchen and dining area). It's possible it's the speakers or wires I have. Looks great, sounds pretty good (great when cranked up) and very happy with it!

I've had this receiver for about a month now and its really nice. One problem I had was my speakers were too weak. During some songs the receiver would completely turn off and then when i turned it back on i would get "Check sp wire". Come to find out it requires 6 or 8 ohm speakers and these were 3 ohms. Do NOT do what i did, you could ruin your receiver. The set up is really quick and the calibration mic works really quickly to configure all your settings for you. there are further tweeks that can be done as well. The app is really nice to use for switching between inputs and can also work as a remote when your couch eats yours. The ability to turn the receiver on and off from anywhere in the house (must be connected to home network) is pretty sweet. I do wish it had a component input (at least one) and also a bit more functionality to configure individual speakers. One last thing is the thumb screws on the back for the speaker wires are a bit tough to get wires in and feel a bit cheap. I recommend getting banana plugs to make wire setup go quicker.

Bought this to have a receiver that would hook up to my wireless network for listening to Pandora. We really enjoy the sound and hook-up was easy. It was a little confusing to get it to access our wireless but we got it and now are enjoying it a lot!

This receiver replaced a 19 year old Yamaha 5.1 channel receiver. What a difference. More power equals less distortion and better sound. Really enjoy the network radio and wifi capability. My 2 DVD players and cable box are going through the receiver for excellent sound. Highly recommend this one if you are going with a 5.1 channel system.
