    Extremely disappointed

I owned a previous model of this product and was well satisfied. I decided to upgrade to get 4k capability. Within in 3 weeks of purchase there were brief very short screen blackouts. Just after a month the HDMI output stopped completely. It will not transmit video signal to the TV. i believe it was likely defective when it came out of the box. Yamaha Customer Service solution is to take the unit to a repair shop nearly 70 miles away. Shop only open 4 days a week making pickup and delivery more difficult. I won't be purchasing any additional Yamaha products.

I really wanted to like this receiver. It was my first Yamaha and I've always heard good things about them. However, this was problematic for several reasons. I'll start with the Pros, of which there aren't many. Pros 1. Looked sleek. I appreciated the minimalist appearance. Nice and heavy too. 2. The picture, when I could match up the correct input with the source, was up-scaled nicely. Cons 1. The set-up was ridiculous. I've set up Denons, Onkyos, Sonys, an RCA, but this - this was difficult for me. Before setting up even the speakers, I was asked to connect this to my wireless network. Then, instead of searching for available networks, it assumed I had an iOS network and began searching for the credentials. That took 4-6 minutes just for me to cancel out of setting it up on my wireless network. 3. The menus were cluttered and confusing. There was a section for "Speakers", which just determined by cycling through a list of speaker configurations that, yes, I in fact had a 7:1 setup. After that, there was a section for "Volume." All this did was set the speakers to "Off." 4. Watching a movie worked - until it didn't. I powered down my system to take a break, but I noticed during the shut-down that a message appeared on my TV stating, "Switching to TV Speakers." When I turned everything back on later to resume the movie, there was no sound. Guess what? The speakers were switched to the TV. OK, no problem, I'll change them. Then when I switched to watch TV, I got the message again stating, "Switching to TV Speakers." This receiver did this EVERY TIME I changed from watching a movie, to watching TV, to streaming! 5. Finally, I got the speakers set back to the receiver, but then I couldn't get the picture - ONLY Audio. VERY Frustrating. After all this, I took it back and got the Denon.

I was looking at the Yamaha RX-V6A, when I noticed there were open box items at a much lower price. One of them was located 1 hour and 20 minutes away. I was having trouble placing the order so I called the store. After navigating the phone menu, I was connected to a person. The person stated he would help me place the order. I completed the order and made payment. During checkout, I was notified that the receiver would be ready in one hour, so I hopped in my car and began driving. I got to the store and found that the order was canceled. The person at the store said that it was no longer available, that their system was not updated, that it was sold a while ago. I called BestBuy to complain about the transaction and seek compensation for my loss of 3 hours of my time and gas to get there. They did absolutely nothing and the person refused to transfer me to a supervisor. So, beware of placing orders online or even by talking to a representative. You might be wasting your time.

Mine gets one star, after two weeks it literally fried itself. First major home theater product that I’ve had that took a crap on me. And I have battery backups and surge protectors and lots of equipment. Past and present. When working it was going to get 4 stars but since mine died after a few weeks that’s all I really will say here. Frustrating as it’s my first (and most likely last) Yamaha AV receiver.

Save some money by getting this from Costco. Like 150 dollars It's the tsr700 but it's the same as the V6A.

Worked well for 6 months. Then went into a "protection mode" that requires a yamaha servicer to repair. Bestbuy was unable to repair. Yamaha has horrible customer service. They dont repair the device. The repairs are outsourced to private repair shops which are not conveniently located. There are only a handful throughout the US. DON'T BUY YAMAHA! Buyer beware!!

I bought an “excellent condition” open box from best buy . It came in with some damage. I connected the receiver and did all the calibration steps/setup . Kept losing audio with a message showing decoder off on unit . Thought maybe it was do to the receiver being damaged . Nope . Went back to best buy and purchased a new unit and still had the same issue of losing sound in the middle of a show or movie.

The installation was fine but followed to the biggest fraud case of $32,000. Best Buy goons took over my bank account. All money was retrieved.. Amazingly, when reported to Matthews store. I was meet with total uninterested ! They were aware of the scheme & didn’t care. You have a serious problem that borders on criminality & lawsuits

If I were a best buy store manager there is no way that I would ever sell this broken incomplete avr to the public. Yamaha needs to drop the price on the new model receiver to make up for this.
