Not as good as they used to be

I bought one set of these to see how well they worked when I was a poor graduate student (about a year ago), and they were fantastic. However, I couldn't afford to buy all 5 sets I needed at that time. I recently purchased 4 more sets to complete my 5.1 setup and I was substantially disappointed that the design has been cheapened -- the price is the same though. The old design pinched the stripped speaker wire between two pieces of gold plated metal to hold them in place. The new design uses these cheap plastic collars that go around the wire insulation to hold them in place. I was rearranging my system just the other day and one of them slipped a little bit and had to be redone. Basically, they work. The connection seems good. But they don’t hold very well at all. I wish I had spent the extra money on the Monster brand. It's only a value if it is comparably good and these new ones are not. Incidentally, the Monster connectors that Best Buy now carries have also changed in the recent past, and they now work just like the old Rocketfish design, which was FANTASTIC.

Don't let the narrow size fool you, they're solid!

I'll admit it, despite my previous success and satisfaction w Rocketfish products (HDMI & optical cables) I was hesitant to try these connectors. Maybe it was the smaller size or the fact I was unfamiliar w them. Either was I passed on them initially and went for the more expensive brand I knew. BION I had to return them as they absolutely would not work w my beefier (10 gauge) speaker wires. I went back and bought the less expensive Rocketfish connectors as a last resort to see if I could make them work as their design was different than the more expensive brand I used previously. I'm so glad I did as they worked perfectly w my heavier gauge speaker wires! They work by securing the wire inside the connector w two (very small but effective) screws. One at each end of the barrel that secures the wire so it stays put. Insert the wire, secure the two set screws, pull up the plastic cover and they're good to go. Plug them in by holding the plastic cover (they fit perfectly despite appearing to be smaller than "normal") and don't look back! I went back and purchased a few more packages as they work as well w standard size speaker wires too...

      A Change for the Worse!!

As a former Best Buy employee and now independent home theater installer, I used to love the Rocketfish Banana plugs. They would actually allow up to 10 Gauge wire. The wire would fold over some teeth and be compressed into the inside of the plug. The design has CHANGED!! Even though the outside is the same, the inside is not. Now there is a pin in the middle of the inside that the wire fits over. A slide-on cheapo plastic fitting holds the wire loosely and seems like it would break with just a few uses. I am extremely disappointed with this new design and will be promptly returning the plugs. If you need banana plugs from Best Buy, then skip the Rocketfish and head for the lower cost Dynex plugs.

This is the kind of thing I'd normally get online since it would be so much cheaper, but I had a new speaker set, Dolby Atmos 5.1.2, and found that I needed four more banana clips NOW, not after waiting a few days for shipment. They had a cheaper pair than this that I originally was going to get when I checked stock online and went to the store, but once I got there, they were horribly cheap clips. So I snagged these instead. They were easy to use, didn't take long to get each on the end of a speaker cable, and they snapped into place in the receiver just fine. These are actually better than the other ones I had, but they're also a lot more expensive than they were. But when you have to have something the same day, and can't wait for something to ship from an online purchase, these are the best ones I found at the local store.

Like at least one other reviewer, I also bought this without doing any research, but I am satisfied with the results. It didn't take me long how to figure out how these works, but I did have to re-do 2 or 3 connections as the plugs came off when I gently pulled on them. All in all my experience is positive, but I can't say I would recommend these to a friend or family as they do take quite a bit of effort and force in order to be confident that the wire is in fact secured properly. Like my summary says, I was able to get them to work and they now work fine for me. Also, for the price, I think a better design that is easier to properly secure/tighten is in order. I can't personally speak to lower cost alternatives, so don't know how these compare. If purchasing I think if you really push the tip of the connector into the end of the wire as hard as possible and tighten, you shouldn't have any problems.

recently I bought a ,mini system, and decided on banana plugs. I dedcided to purchase these. The leanng curve was short and easy but the installation did take a few mniutes, after the first plug was connected to the wire, (no stripping), the rest were easier, but I lost one of the rubber compressors for the 16-18 adapters of the rocketfish. My remedy was to place the 12 gauge compressor, which is plastic compared to the 16 gauge. After a few days the left speaker audio went dead, becuase the 12 gauge compressor hole was too big for the 16 gauge speaker wires. I wished the item came with extra compressors. Anyway I give this 5 stars! Warning don't open the package unless your near your stereo and speaker wires. while searching for that extra compressor I thought I found it but they were just dead bedbugs, 16 gauge comprssors are black and about the size of bedbugs!

      They get the job done...

Been using these for about 2 years. Switching out one receiver for another I've found ALL the connections have come loose. Not at the plug itself (they are tight) but they have unscrewed/loosened at the cable. Every one of them. No effect on performance but it could have become an issue unchecked. I don't know how many of you go poking around the back side of your receiver or speakers at any given interval but it's something to watch out for. Aside from that they transfer the signal, connect easily and work very well. I was perfectly happy with the old style spring loaded style of connector on the back of receivers and speakers. These satisfy something that wasn't needed in the first place. My Onkyo forced me to use these...and they work. Just wouldn't have gone this route otherwise...

I am not going to compare this to any other product as it is the only one I've tried as far as getting my own speaker wire and plugs. I understood the simple instructions instantly and they worked on the first try, making a much more secure connection. I am convinced they caused an immediate boost in audio clarity compared to my shoddy attempt at stuffing the wires thru the hole drilled in the post and mashing them in with the screw-downs. I ended up buying a second pack days later since I didn't connect the idea that there are two terminals on each end of the wire that need to be connected. I bought 14 AWG wire to go with this and that gives a solid amount of wire for these to bite down on. Thumbs up.
