A: The SMH9187ST can be set up to vent outside, or filtered air can be recirculated into the room. The charcoal filter is included, and will help to filter odors from the cooktop if you choose to set up the microwave to recirculate the air. A: This unit can be vented to the inside and it does come with a carbon filter for use with inside venting. Mine (SMH9187ST) has never vented either well or quietly. I am not happy with the venting of this product and would recommend you stay away from Samsung as their customer service has been less than desirable. Hope this helps.
