Sleek and Sexy
Posted .I got a great deal on this laptop and took a chance having no experience with a Samsung laptop before. I am glad I did. The construction is solid, the finish is sleek, it is a beautiful piece of hardware. I immediately dumped Windowz 8 and put Ubuntu 13.10 on it with no issues whatsoever. Everything worked under Ubuntu. Its fast and I have had no issues sustaining wifi connections as I have read in other forums. The 1920 x 1080 display resolution is a minimum for me and this laptop delivers, so no issues there. Things to keep in mind: - The screen is glossy so be prepared for glare. - The display colors are not accurate and have a "warm" tint to them, so it may not be ideal for photo editting. - While the chassis is extremely easy to open, there is no room for a full size laptop HDD. (Replacing the 128GB mSATA may be expensive as these drives are less common and cost more.) - Windowz users may want to throw more RAM at it as it can take up to 16GB, but only comes with 4GB.

Very nice touch screen Laptop
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI purchased the unit and also purchased an extra 8GB Memory module. There are good videos on line to show how to take the cover off and add the extra memory in the extra empty slot is very easy. 20 minute project max. I like having the VGA output - would prefer not to have to purchase the separate dongle for it but hooks up to large desktop monitor just fine. Slightly annoying that it usually takes 2 hands to open the cover because the closing mechanism is stronger than the weight of the machine.. have to hold down the bottom when grasping the top to open it or it just lifts up the whole machine. I had trouble figuring how to set up the back light keyboard controls.. probably still don't have it right because they are still too dim to see in anything but pitch black conditions.. i'm guessing that I haven't found the correct place to make the adjustments yet. Didn't not like not having the dedicated "print screen" key.. but again figured it out by looking on line forms.

Beauty and Power in an Ultrabook
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThe best looking laptop I have ever owned. However like all other ultrabooks with the Intel 6235 there is a problem with the WiFi. I had problems with it disconnecting and reconnecting with "limited" reception. There is a fix, you would have to download the current intel proset wireless driver ver 16.1.5 After that, your WiFi problems should be long gone. I also spent about $40 on another 4Gb of Ram (there is an available slot) to bring my total ram to 8. Youtube can tell you how to do it if you don't know how. I now feel like my laptop is a perfect 10/10!

Best ultrabook on the market today!
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI bought this laptop around a week ago, and I have to say, it's the best laptop I've ever used. And trust me, I've used a LOT. The screen is the best screen I've seen on a laptop to date (besides the MacBook pro retina display, but that's twice as much#. I got this laptop for $899 at a BestBuy store. First the pros. PROS: - Amazing Screen - Battery Life #Usually get ~7-8 hours# - Trackpad - Design - Fan is quiet - Speakers surprisingly good - Ethernet port #a rarity on ultrabooks# CONS: - Keyboard backlight is useless unless its completely dark in the room - Screen hinge sometimes makes noises #not a big deal# - Astronomical amount of bloatware #all can be uninstalled# All in all, this is the best laptop under $1000 I've used...EVER. If I had a little more to spend, I would have gotten the ATIV Book 9, the more premium version of this laptop, but I'm not regretting anything. If you want a great ultrabook that's sturdy, has a 1080p screen, great trackpad, and nice design, then this is the one for you. You will NOT be disappointed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I know this laptop comes with the 3rd gen Intel processors and not the Haswell ones, but all Haswell does is improve the battery life for the most part. This laptop already has amazing battery life #as I said, 7-8 hours). I don't have a need for more than that, so I'm perfectly happy with the 3rd gen processors.

Great for traveling
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendHave enjoyed this computer for about a month now. CPU freezes occasionally @ .77 or 2.47 GHz as determined by looking at the task manager readings. I figured this out because the computer would slow down considerably and therefore I did some investigating (Samsung TS of no help here)...... I just shut down and restarted and this solved the problem but it still happens occasionally. Uninstalled Intellimemory also. Fun computer but should really be priced lower considering the the small SSD.......but then so should other computers w/a 128 GB SSD. The high res screen makes up for it in a sense.

Great overall, graphics performance a little low
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendWe bought this laptop about 2 weeks ago for my wife and kids. Overall, it's great. The screen is beautiful. The touchpad is the best I've ever used on a laptop, the speakers are the best I've ever heard on a laptop, and the battery life is excellent thanks to the large 57Wh battery. My one complaint is that the graphics performance out of the box is a little low, even relative to other Intel HD4000 laptops such as the Asus S7. (For example, the Windows Experience Index on the Samsung ATIV Book 7 out of the box is 4.7 for 2D graphics and 6.2 for 3D graphics, compared to 5.5 and 6.4 for an Asus S7 with the same Intel Core i5 processor and HD4000 graphics.) It turns out this is because the ATIV Book 7 ships with a single 4GB memory DIMM, so the memory is not running in dual channel mode. There is an excellent discussion of this on the MobileTechReview website in their review of the ATIV Book 7, which provides tons of useful information about this laptop and comparisons to other similar laptops. Other than this memory problem, we really liked the Samsung, so I bought a matching second 4GB DIMM online (for about $34) and upgraded the RAM myself. That one upgrade raised the Windows Experience Index scores for 2D graphics to 5.7 and for 3D graphics to 6.4. Now my kids can play their Cube World (a Minecraft clone with slightly more intensive graphics) on it without any difficulty, whereas before there was an annoying 1/4 to 1/2 second lag whenever you tried to do anything. In summary, this laptop should have shipped with 8GB of RAM or at least had 4GB loaded as 2x2GB DIMMs so that it could run in dual channel mode. The graphics performance in single channel mode is noticeably slower, and the cost for Samsung to bring the laptop up to its full potential would have been minimal. That said, now that I've "fixed" it with the RAM upgrade, the laptop is perfect. Awesome screen, great sound, great battery life, great size and weight, and the graphics now do the job they were supposed to do.

The SSD is awesome coming from a laptop with a HD.
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis laptop is great for work or play! The 128GB SSD onboard storage was plenty for what I need it for when travel comes up. Besides if you need additional storage, I use other flash drives as well as online storage. This way, I can keep this computer clean and running like new for years. The backlight keyboard illuminates the alphabetical and numerical keys perfect and you can set them dimmer or brighter...really cool. It being so light weight in my bag, I can hardly tell I'm carrying it. I will be investing in a 13.3" case for it to fit in my laptop bag in order to keep it from sliding around in a 15.6" space. I would recommend this laptop to anyone looking to travel or simply carry it around the house and be able to access all of your network needs.

Light weight and beautifully designed
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI bought this laptop to replace a 6 year old Gateway laptop. This is a personal laptop I use mainly for email, internet, word processing, personal finances and Netflix. I was drawn to it for a few reasons - the screen resolution is unbelievable; one of the best I saw, the great look & design and because it can link to my Samsung smart phone. I have had the laptop for over a month now and overall I'm very happy with it. The screen resolution is still a favorite aspect. I've also come to love that it is a solid state drive. This thing starts up in like 2 seconds. It's fantastic. My old laptop felt like it took 20 minutes. It is really light weight, but still substantial enough to serve as my primary home computer. (I've carried it around a few times, but being ultra light for constant portability isn't a need of mine right now.) The only thing I haven't been able to make work is the Samsung link so the laptop and smart phone can talk to one another. I'm planning to stop by the Best Buy location I bought it at to get assistance with that from the Samsung reps, who were fantastic. I was very impressed with them and the Best Buy staff as well. Still adjusting to Windows 8. I don't hate it, but I'm not in love with it yet either. I do think it functions better when you have a touch screen. I've tried it on a laptop w/o touch screen and Windows 8 is much more frustrating then. But that doesn't affect how I feel about the laptop overall. To me this Samsung A TIV Book 7 is the PC equivalent of a Mac in terms of design. I love the look and so far it does everything I need as a laptop. I would definitely recommend it.
Q: QuestionAtvia Book 7 upgradeI'm interested in purchasing a Samsung Ativa Book 7 but I want to upgrade it to 16GB Memory. I understand that the one you are selling only has one 4GB chip installed and there is provisions for 2 slots. I've seen compatable memory for sale for approximately $300 but I don't want to be stuck with a 4GB chip that I don't need. Can you do that?
Asked by AGL.
- A:Answer You can certainly upgrade to 16 gig - I did it as soon as I got home with mine - I do have a 4 gig chip in the drawer, so yes you will be 'stuck' with a chip - maybe geek squad would give you a discount if they do the work but it probably would not be much for the 4 gig chip. I don't recall what brand of DDR3 (1600MHz) maybe PNY or Corsair but 16 gig was $120 on sale I believe. Easy upgrade and worth it.

Q: Questioncomputer colorWhy has the computer color given in the Best Buy description not been changed to reflect the actual color of the computer?? It is not Mineral Ash Black but is actually a bare metallic color. This is confusing/misleading. I am surprised nobody else has commented on this.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer The color of this computer is "Bare Metal", which is a silver model as pictured here. We are actively working to have this updated to reflect the correct color. Thanks for your interest in Samsung products. --Mr.Samsung
