I received the first refurbished unit and it would not eject tapes. The second unit would not read the majority of DVDs that I tried, even brand new ones.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

A:AnswerAt Best Buy, whenever we sell products that have been refurbished by their respective manufacturers, we clearly message them as such and offer a savings (as compared to the price of the same product when new), along with regular return policy. Please see our Refurbished Product FAQs below for more information.
Refurbished Product FAQs:
Q: What does "refurbished" mean?
A: Refurbished products are products that were purchased and returned by customers. These products are then sent back to the manufacturer and restored to like-new condition.
Q: Why did customers return these products?
A: Refurbished products may have been returned for any number of reasons. Sometimes the product may not have been working properly, but often the reason for the return was something as minor as the customer not knowing how to use or program the product.
Q: Are refurbished products tested to make sure they work properly?
A: Yes. Regardless of the reason for their return, refurbished products are inspected by factory technicians who perform any necessary repairs. Refurbished products are then re-inspected to ensure they look and perform like new.
Q: Why should I purchase a refurbished product?
A: Buying refurbished products saves you money. Refurbished products are sold at a significant savings vs. the cost of the same product brand new.
Q: Can I return a refurbished product if I have a problem with it?
A: Yes, our standard Best Buy Return Policy applies. In addition, a manufacturer's warranty may be included. See individual product pages for manufacturer warranty information.
Q: How does buying a refurbished product help the environment?
A: Buying refurbished products is a great way to help support the environmental "green" effort. Refurbished products are often returned with nothing wrong with them at all, or require only minor repairs and have been re-inspected and repaired to function like new. By purchasing these products, you not only save money but also help reduce environmental waste by preventing the unnecessary disposal of these fully functional products.
A:AnswerIf you purchase the unit within the US, it will only have support for All Region and Region 1 DVDs ("All Region" DVDs refers to DVDs that are marked as region 0 or "Region All". This does not mean the player can play every regions’ DVDs).
