Automate your lighting or ordinary small appliance with this Samsung smart home outlet. It enables remote operation of a plugged device through your smartphone, and it automatically turns a connected lamp on and off when you enter and leave your room. This Samsung smart home outlet notifies you when a device is left on, helping you save energy.
Q: How many amps can the smart outlet handle?
A: According to the printing on the unit they can handle 15 Amps.
Q: Can this be programed for a week?
A: Not sure the question, but if you're using SmartThings hub with it, there are various automations you can setup to turn it on/off.
A: Hue requires a hub. Smartthings requires a hub as well. Without getting into the hacking world, I don't believe you can hook this plug directly to the Hue hub. If you have both hubs, you can control and coordinate Hue through Smartthings. I have both systems and have chosen to run them independently with no linkage. I like the fact that the Smartthings Hub has a battery back-up that keeps everything going for a few hours if the power is out.
Q: Why does BB have this listed as an outdoor outlet?
A: We apologize for any confusion on the SmartThings Outlet! This outlet is designed for indoor use only. Thank you! ~Samsung Brand Ambassador
A: Check the amps on your water heater but it is not likely that the outlet can carry that much current. I did something similar in my house in Costa Rica but I used the smart outlet to control a relay which in turn controls the water heater.
Q: I have Alexa 2nd gen. Do I need a SmartThings hub to make this plug work?
A: It is a Zigbee plug, so just about any "hub" that supports Zigbee will work. SmartThings, Hubitat, etc. will work.
A: Works great with the SmartThings hub and app. Love it.
