Silent Hill
A mother and daughter flee to a strange abandoned town to seek out answers to the daughter's nightly psychological turmoil in Brotherhood of the Wolf director Christophe Gans' adaptation of the popular survival horror video game. Sharon (Jodelle Ferland) is a very sick child, yet rather than seeing her child suffer the cruel indignities of the medical profession, Rose (Radha Mitchell) ignores her husband's (Sean Bean) pleas and absconds with her ailing daughter to the fog-enshrouded town of Silent Hill. A town drenched in darkness and inhabited by a strange collection of menacing specters, Silent Hill seemingly swallows young Sharon whole upon arrival. Determined to get her daughter back at any cost, Rose sets out to explore the mysterious Silent Hill, only to discover an evil so powerful that it possesses the ability to transform anything it wishes. With the deeply disturbing history of the town slowly coming into focus through the dense fog, Rose soon realizes that both she and her daughter may be little more than simple pawns in a much larger, and seemingly supernatural, game. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

One Of The Best Video Game Movies Of All Time

For the most part, I don't put much faith in movies derived from video games. Its not that I don't think they have the potential to be great, its just that they usually fail to provide the same experience in 2 hours that a video game can take 20 or 30+ to convey. This is where Silent Hill is unique. Not only does it manage to portray the eerie atmosphere of Silent Hill with great accuracy, but it does so in a one-shot deal (not that I'm not hoping for a sequel!). Throughout the movie, different creatures from the game make their debut- and do it in such a perfectly realistic way you would almost believe it to be true were it happening right in front of you! The special effects in Silent Hill are top-knotch and never fail to draw you into the on-screen action! While the ending falls into letdown territory, its not because its a bad ending- just a sad one! In the grand scheme of things though, its a perfectly fitting ending that I don't think could have been done as well any other way!

Best Scarey Flick in a long time...

This movie was such a relief for a horror flick fan like myself. I was so tired of the "genetic freaks in the forrest" and "the house with a terrible history" movies I could have screamed. All I could think was "there is so much more to be affraid of, right?" But, it was the same story base rearranged for what seemed like a decade. Silent hill is scarey! It goes up there with your freakiest scarey dream. The imposssible has been neglected for so long as aspect of what creates fear within our being. But, really, isn't the unknown terrifying? This movie ties adventure into fantasy with hard creepy coating. This movie was refreshing.

    Excellent horror movie!!!

This was a great movie, my wife and I loved it! I was a fan of the video game when I was younger, and this was a great adaptation. The movie has a great plot, excellent special effects, and is very intense and intriguing. If you're a fan of horror movies, you've got it all right here. A definite must own. I highly recommend it! Also, some other great video games turned into movies are Doom, The Resident Evil series, and Max Payne.

    Excellent Game-Based Movie!

This is an awesome movie! It makes you jump all the while keeping you totally interested in the slowly but surely building plot. After a bit of a corny prelude to how their daughter is having nightmares about "Silent HILL, SILENT HILL", this movie picks up and doesn't slow down all the way to the explosive ending scene. Great movie, more than worth a couple good watches! I highly recommend it!

worst film, dvd good as a coaster

This movie was flat out terrible. I bought it based on the fact that the video game was somewhat entertaining. At no point was the movie scary or have any real suspense. I own over 300 DVD's and watch a lot of films. This was the worst one that I can recall. Don't waste your time with this film.

    A Good Interpretation

Roger Avary stayed pretty true to the film while offering a movie friendly synthesis of the story. Though, some of the video game scenes didn't translate well to screen. Anytime I mention this movie to people, they immediately respond with, "Oh! That movie was CREEPY!"

Not a bad film, very underrated. Those who have played the game might be disappointed - but I thought it caught the scenery imagery and mood perfectly. The creators of this got their inspiration from "Jacobs Ladder" - so if you've seen that you should def see this.

    Dark Creepy Movie

Considering this whole entire movie was done by a blue screen, that really says something. Acting was all right, but not the best. A very dark and creepy movie that didnt scare me as much as i thought it would. Great movie though. Games are better!
