The world needed a hero, we got a hedgehog. Powered with incredible speed, Sonic The Hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz), aka The Blue Blur, embraces his new home on Earth. That is, until he accidentally knocks out the power grid and sparks the attention of super-uncool evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Now it's super-villain vs. super-sonic in an all-out race across the globe to stop Robotnik from using Sonic's unique power for world domination. Sonic teams up with The Donut Lord, aka Sheriff Tom Wachowski (James Marsden), to save the planet in this live-action adventure comedy that's fun for the whole family.

This is hands down one of if not the best movie I have ever seen, and I have seen The movie has an amazing cast that bring every each character to life and give them all such amazing personality. Going into this movie I expected this to be like every other video game movie: bad. But i was delightfully surprised to come to the realization within the first 5 minutes; this movie is amazing. This movie will go down as a classic in history and I don't expect anything to top this for a very long time. I absolutely recommend to every single person on this planet, you wont regret watching this.
I myself have been a fan of the series since 2003, around when Heroes released. Something with the gameplay, characters, music, and environment catches on to me. And now nearly 17 years later, I'm still a huge Sonic fan, and I'll say the film is a huge love letter to the series, as well as being a solid film for people young and old overall. 8/10
Hopefully a sequel comes out of this, but until then, support this film if you like, especially with next year being the 30th Anniversary of Sonic The Hedgehog.
This movie is so good, the graphics are great and the story is amazing. I’ve been waiting for a Sonic movie for as long as the game has been out.A must have for all families and fans. I can’t wait until the sequel is done. So amazing.
Watched this as a late birthday celebration with friends.
And yeah if you know what you're getting into you're gonna have a good time; a 90s esque road trip movie with a great character and innocent human characters.
The main thing though is the jokes; weather or not you'll laugh that much, Sonic acting his usual hyperactive, over-talkative self, spouting pop culture references (which makes sense when you find out his back story...which is actually quite sweet is rushed), and Carrey acting OTT.
The thing with alot of the joke sis that charecters acknowledge how "jokeish" of a statement their comment was, that or just snarking it off or groaning; it'll make or break it for you.
But Sonic looks and sounds great and I love the little "adventure" (seriously ain't that much of an adventure) Marsden and Sonic have, and his wife has the thinnest characterization but is a sweet enough character. And once again is backstory introduction is very nice (I have no clue if it was based off the comics or some long lost game but if it was then sweet!)
Oh btw that one joke about family movie night, I feel in love with this film already, that was my favorite line! And the people who watched it know what I'm talking about...and it's my next review ;)
Whether you’re a Sonic fan or just looking for a movie to pass the time, def give this one a watch. Kept my interest overall, 4 stars.
What’s it about? Young Sonic was raised by Longclaw until one day when showing off his powers, the bad guys discover him, resulting in Sonic fleeing to another world (Earth) via his rings and leaving an injured Longclaw behind. Now older and living in Green Hills, he follows a couple he calls Tom “The Donut Lord” (Marsden) and Maddie “The Pretzel Lady” (Sumpter), as he longs to be part of their family. Getting upset one evening realizing that isn’t going to happen, he triggers power outages along the Pacific Northwest resulting in the government requesting help from the crazy Doctor Robotnik (Carey). While fleeing from Dr. Robotnik, he is discovered by Tom who tranqs him with one of Maddie’s veterinarian darts. During this incident, Sonic’s bag of rings falls through a ring that is open to San Francisco. Tom agrees to help Sonic get his rings back while the duo plays a cat and mouse game with Dr. Robotnik. They tackle some of Sonic’s bucket list along the way and eventually meet up with Maddie and her family. There is a happy ending and an opening for another movie (and what movie wouldn’t be complete without a couple product placements?).
I would recommend this to a friend
Rated 5 out of 5 stars
A fun movie for both fans and kids.
Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.
After the fiasco with the Sonic design in the first trailer, I didn't know what to expect with this movie. The movie itself without the horrendous Sonic design looked okay, even with Jim Carrey. Even after they went back to redesign Sonic, my feelings were still mixed. I didn't get a chance to see this movie in theaters, but I talked to those who did see it, and they told me they enjoyed it. So, I took a chance and not only bought it, but bought the steelbook.
To be honest, I was really surprise on how much this movie made me smile and laugh. And it wasn't just Jim Carrey carrying the movie, Sonic (voiced and motion captured by Ben Schwartz) made me laugh as well, though some of his pop culture references did get annoying at times. Also, the human characters were not annoying. I genuinely enjoyed James Marsden and Tika Sumpter characters. But I was really impress by the Easter eggs this movie had, some took a second watching to see them all.
The steelbook itself look cool, and with this Steelbook, it also contains a comic book of Sonic.
Overall, Sonic the Hedgehog was a fun, entertaining movie for fans and new ones. I can't wait for a sequel.
