    • Effective Pixels: 18.2 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
  • General
    • Product Name: Cyber-shot DSC-HX80 18.2-Megapixel Digital Camera
    • Brand: Sony
    • Model Number: DSC-HX80/B
    • Color: Black
    • Camera Model Family: Sony HX
    • Digital Camera Type: Point and Shoot Cameras
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Sensor Size: Other
    • Total Pixels: 21 megapixels (Generally, the more pixels, the higher the image resolution and the finer the detail that can be seen.)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 4896 x 3672 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Zoom Capability: true (This function allows for magnification of the subject.)
    • Digital Zoom: 60x (A digital zoom is accomplished electronically, with no adjustment of the camera's optics, and no optical resolution gained in the process. The existing data is not enhanced or added to, merely displayed at a lower resolution, thereby giving an illusion of an enlarged image.)
    • Optical Zoom: 30x (The optical zoom uses a combination of lenses that magnify the image prior to it being registered at high resolution by the imaging sensor.)
    • In-Camera Image Stabilization: true (This feature helps reduce image blurring from camera motion. In-camera stabilization means the image sensor itself moves to counteract detected motion.)
    • Low Light/High Sensitivity: true (High sensitivity digital imaging devices are designed to work in low light conditions to produce a high dynamic range image.)
    • Image File Format(s): DCF 2.0, Exif 2.3, JPEG, MRF (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
    • Eye Autofocus (Eye AF): true (Automatically seeks out and focuses on the subject's eye and holds it as the camera and subject move and as the photographer shoots at high frame rates.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: 1/2000 (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Brightness Control: true (Allows the camera to adjust the brightness of a captured image for optimal exposure.)
    • Burst Mode: true (Also referred to as continuous shooting. This feature captures multiple shots in rapid succession.)
    • Burst Rate: 10 frames per second
    • Self Timer: true
    • Self-Timer Delay: 10 seconds
    • Shooting Modes: Intelligent Auto; Superior Auto; Program Auto; Aperture Priority; Shutter Speed Priority; Manual Exposure (Exposure modes employed by the photographer to control the optimal aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and other settings for capturing specific subjects/scenes. Examples include Aperture-Priority, Macro, and Manual modes.)
    • Panorama Mode: true
    • Scene Modes: Portrait, Sports,Landscape, Night Scene and others (Exposure modes with predetermined optimal settings for capturing specific scenes. Examples include Landcape, Portrait, and Sports modes.)
    • White Balance Modes: Auto; Daylight; Shade; Cloudy; Incandescent; Fluorescent: Cool White; Fluorescent: Day White; Fluorescent: Daylight; Flash; Custom; One Push; One Push Set (Settings that calibrates how the color white is rendered in an image/video, reducing the appearance of unnatural contrasts caused by various light sources.)
    • Effective Pixels: 18.2 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
  • Lens
    • In-Lens Image Stabilization: true (This feature helps reduce image blurring from camera motion. Lens stabilization means an element within the lens moves automatically to counteract detected motion.)
  • Flash
    • Flash Modes: Automatic, Rear curtain sync, Red-eye reduction (The flash feature emits light to increase the brightness of a subject in dimly lit environments. Common modes include Auto and Red-Eye Reduction.)
    • Integrated Flash: true
  • Display
    • Display Type: TFT-LCD
    • Screen Size: 3 inches (Size of the screen, measured diagonally from corner to corner.)
    • Viewfinder Type: Electronic (A viewfinder is the part of a camera (or attachment) that allows you to see and focus a scene in frame. Optical viewfinders let you view the scene directly through the lens. Electronic viewfinders display the image on a screen in its approximate final form.)
    • Touch Screen: false (Touch-screen devices make navigating more intuitive. Using a touch-screen display, you can do things such as tap to select, hold and drag to move items, swipe to scroll, and pinch to zoom.)
    • Varying Angle Screen: true (The camera's screen can be flipped out and adjusted to rotate, tilt, and/or swivel.)

Q: 1)burst shooting? 2)panoramic pictures? 3)face detection? 4)various modes like for pets, sports, fireworks? 5) Are the pictures 4k? And video is full hd right? 6)How is it in low light?I will take pictures in all sorts of light, is this good in all kinds?

A: Hi SofiaJames, Sony DSCHX80 is capable of burst shooting: 10 fps (for up to 10 shots), panorama, face detection, various scene modes (Portrait, Advanced Sports Shooting, Landscape, Sunset, Night Scene, Handheld Twilight, Night Portrait, Anti Motion Blur, Pet Mode, Gourmet, Beach, Snow, Fireworks, Soft Skin, High Sensitivity). It can also shoot 4k photos and full-HD videos. It's good in low light situations. You can check this link for more info: https://docs.sony.com/release//Specs_DSCHX80.pdf. -Anthony

Q: I have trouble seeing the image being filmed on the camera screen when taking pictures in bright sunlight. Would this camera or any camera be able to correct this situation?

A: That's what the Electronic Viewfinder is for. Use the pop-up EVF - by virtue of bringing your eye to the EVF, you are shading the tinier screen from the ambient (background) sunlight that is washing out the larger rear display.

Q: How good is this camera for night pictures without flash?

A: Hi! Yes. The stunning picture quality comes from the low light Exmor R® sensor and premium ZIESS lens with 5-axis image stabilization. -Anthony

Q: does it fit in a pocket or purse. hx80

A: The camera is about the same size as a small phone in a bully case, so it fits in even small pockets pretty easily. The picture shows it in comparison to my hand, which is average size.

Q: Can I transfer a photo directly from this camera to my iPad mini?

A: Hi Mich, yes, you can transfer still images/movies to an iPad and view them. The PlayMemories Mobile application must be installed on your iPad. Dave

Q: whats the difference between this model and the Cyber-Shot HX90V?

A: I feel that is important to note that in addition to having no GPS, the HX80 also does not have the control ring surrounding the lens like the HX90V does. On the HX90V, this ring can be configured to adjust different settings when you turn it.

Q: Can you charge this camera with an USB cable?

A: Hi Carla, yes, the battery pack can be charged by connecting the camera to a computer using a micro USB cable. Connect the camera to the computer with the camera turned off. Dave
