I take minute at several critical meetings with outside agencies. I don't take short hand so have borrowed devices from coworkers with varied results. After reading the reviews of this Sony IC Recorder I decided to take the plunge and buy my own recorder and I'm so glad I did. The first recording was in a very poorly laid out room, folks at a round table plus a gallery in one corner of the room. I was afraid the recorder wouldn't pick up all the speakers but it did. My first transcription was a piece of cake to hear everyone who spoke. This IC recorder is a keeper.

I usually do not write reviews, compared to the amount of products that I purchase from BestBuy and Amazon, but definitely I think this product deserves a review. I have been looking for a replacement recorder in order to record conferences in the hospital as the old Olympus voice recorder had a very poor recording quality and mic reception, even with an external Stereo Mic. The conference recordings were unintelligible The Sony ICD-SX712 provides crystal clear recording, excellent ambient noise reduction and easy to use interface. The swivel stereo mics are excellent when one tries to adjust the directionality of the sound / voice. The included stand provides a tripod screw hole, which allows you to connect it to a small tripod ceiling if needed. Would have been much better if the Rechargeable batteries were provided as standard within the package, but I am using my Eneloops. Despite being bit more expensive than the Olympus recorders or the other Sony models, it's worth the extra money for sure. P.S.: You can even use it as an MP3 player, and the sound quality is even better than my Walkman S545!

I sing a capella and need to record rehearsals and coaching sessions. This voice recorder has been an outstanding edition to my rehearsal routine. The microphones can be directed one way, or can spread to pick up sound across the quartet. The attachable stand makes it easy to stand the unit up. I have been extremely pleased with this recorder and would recommend it to anyone who has serious needs for quality voice recordings.

A:AnswerThe ICDSX712 with its Two External Microphones will pick up the slightest sounds in a room if you increase the mic sensitivity, or lessen the sensitivity to focus on one individual or area for recording.
A:Answer(1) You can Change the angle of the built-in microphones manually according to the direction you want to record. Rotate both capsules of the built-in microphones to face the outside (120° position), to pick up on all voices in a group of about 10-12 people.
The microphone on the right records sound from the right, the microphone on the left records sound from the left. You can obtain dynamic stereo sound recording, therefore this position is recommended for recording a sound source, such as a conference, a musical performance, etc.
