Great product
||Posted .I love how compact the Tap 11 is. When shopping for a new laptop/tablet I was looking for something portable, light and very functional. The Tap 11 has it all and even. Glad I did not get the Surface, I love the size of the screen (11.6 inches) it is just big enough for comfort when browsing the net or writing papers. Only downer: The wireless keyboard will not always connect with the tablet. Sometimes it takes a few tries of turning it on/off or simply reconnecting it to the tablet for a few seconds. I do see a lot of updates for the system coming through, almost weekly, so I am hopeful that this issue will be resolved in the near future. Overall this is a great product and purchase and I would recommend it to anyone. Fellow students looking for a full operating system, fun down time through using it as a tablet with many apps becoming available in the windows store & the perfect size for yes, my big purse!

Nice Alternative to Microsoft Surface
||Posted .The Sony Vaio Tap is a reasonable alternative to the Microsoft Surface. Priced a bit more than the Surface 2 and a bit less than the Surface Pro 2, the Vaio Tap gives you the ability to have a more PC experience without the higher price tap of the Surface Pro. It is nice, too, that the Tap comes with a pen for data entry because you can use a higher resolution and still use the OS. As a negative, it is a bit difficult to use in bed or in places without a flat surface because the kickstand does not extend the full length of the screen (like the Surface does). Also, you need to consider that Sony is exiting the PC business, so the machine likely will no longer be available in US markets.

Sony TAP 11
||Posted .Now that the unit works, I love it!! However, when I first got it I really struggled to get the appropriate drivers so that the WiFi would work consistently. I was continually backing out upgrades until I did three (3) back to back to back. Windows updates AND Sony Updates...3 each.... Seems OK now. Then the Blue Tooth mouse kept dropping connection. I learned that you do NOT want the system to turn off the Blue Tooth device to save power... It couldn't power back on and connect properly. Again, after I got past all that the system is really sweet!!

Great all around tablet
||Posted .I picked this thing up after my last laptop died and I needed a replacement right now. I wasn't expecting to get much... but I was blown away by how much I actually love this thing. The screen is easily it's best feature - full 1920x1080 resolution looks gorgeous, and I was surprised to find I actually prefer the wireless detachable keyboard to the standard snap on approach. It allows me a lot more freedom to work and type, greatly appreciated as I'm a writer by profession, and has a good feel to it that you don't usually get with devices of this type. And the addition of the highly accurate and customizable pen is a great perk as well! That said, the keyboard is also one of the downsides. I have noticed that it has a tendency to occasionally lose connection with the tablet, and once that happens really the only way to fix it is to either put it to sleep and bring it back or turn the keyboard receiver on and off in settings. This can be very annoying at times, but ultimately is manageable. The other issue, however, is heating. This thing was built very thin, and it's only got one exhaust on it in the upper left corner. Heat in this area is quite noticeable, and can get quite uncomfortable as it's one of the areas you'd usually be holding during regular operation (at least if you're right handed like myself.) Overall, however, I'd recommend this machine. It's a solid design and a good performer for the price.

Mixed Feelings
||Posted .I have mixed feelings about the Sony Tap 11. In some ways it is impressive but in other ways it is problematic. I feel that it is a gallant attempt to have so many features in a small package but needs substantial ‘tweaking’. The fact that it has a USB port is a real plus; the touch screen is a nice feature; and the fact that one can install Microsoft Office makes it a great tool. On the negative side it has been difficult to use for several reasons: at first I found the track pad worthless but was able increase the sampling rate and it is now working fine. I did purchase a Microsoft Bluetooth ‘Comfort’ Mouse and got it to work at first; but then the OS disabled the Bluetooth because of a conflict. I was able to get Bluetooth re-established by performing a system restore but the mouse repeatedly fails to ‘pair’ so I have given up on that mouse. I almost returned to the store where it was purchased; I thought that it was faulty because the initial configuration and updates caused the display to go blank and the system to be non-responsive. It eventually rebooted and seems to be working okay. The display is beautiful but everything is so small and a challenge to select even with the Sony pen. Maybe I can change the resolution but it seems to be have a mind of it own and is unpredictable. It is a real adjustment getting use to Windows 8 and having to switch between touch screen, pen, and track pad. I much prefer Windows 7 over Windows 8 because the newer OS is not as intuitive as it predecessor. I do not see much value to the Start Screen; it seems more of a gimmick to me and not very useful. I think I would have preferred the Sony Vaio Ultrabook with its faster processor and more traditional laptop functionality and still being very portable and lightweight.

Good 2 in 1
||Posted .This is a great 2 in 1 laptop/tablet. The version I got for my wife has the weakest cpu which is not even a Core i. It only has 4GB of RAM, but that's fine unless you need more or plan to do any gaming. The active pen is great for design work. The battery life seems to be good. The only complaint I have is that the keyboard must be placed onto the tablet like a cover to charge, rendering the PC unusable.

It does what I need it to do
||Posted .This is a great alternative to a tablet, as it has the functionality of a laptop. This is the combination I was looking for, along with compact, so it was a natural choice. It is a little awkward sometimes when I need to use the keyboard, especially when there isn't a stable surface to put it on. I haven't had a lot of the issues I see others talking about, but I did notice recently that I am starting to get error messages; not sure how much of a problem that will be. Overall, though, it does what I need it to do so I am satisfied. I do not rely on it for everyday use, but use it more as a travel version.

Great iPad Replacement for Windows Users
||Posted .If you need to integrate with other Windows systems or would like to install Windows software, this is an excellent choice. It's the size and resolution of an iPad, but you can drag and drop files to other Windows computers, install print drivers, and access other Windows systems via Remote Assistance and Remote Desktop. It comes with a nice Bluetooth keyboard and a fine-point stylus for detailed work. I found that this lower end model (Tap 11 vs a Tap 20) is more than adequate to run Microsoft Office 2010, Chrome, Photoshop and Illustrator CS6, and much more. It's a true Windows PC in a tablet the size of an iPad. Ensure yours comes with Win 8.1 from the factory; some in stock still have Windows 8.0. When I attempted a free upgrade to 8.1, it failed, so I installed 8.1 from scratch. Be sure to check SonyStyle's website - they upgrade their drivers frequently.

Q: QuestionCan Microsoft Office be used?I want to use my USB drive to work on documents and do word processing? Is it possible on this machine?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Absolutely IS. You can use a USB flash drive just like as if it were another drive built into the system. The nice thing is that this system has a full size 3.0 USD slot and not just the micro USB slot like many "tablets" on the market today.
