How to fix battery life ..... Turn off wifi.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great unit no regrets. I did get it on sale and it was worth what i paid. Sound quality absolutely superior to any phone. Love having physical buttons i can feel. Adding a silicone case only made it easier to press the button i need through my pants pocket in the gym. Even my car stereo sounds upgraded when i play music through AUX.

Phenomenal Portable Player with One Downside
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great player, but mediocre battery life. It has expandable memory, but it doesn't play WAV files. FLAC is comparable but having WAV would also be nice. I use the player with some JH Audio IEMs at work & on the kit. I'll probably never use the balance, but it's also a very nice addition to have. Noise isn't really a problem for me when I'm wearing IEMs anyway because of the passive sound isolation & having a direct sound driver plugged directly into my ear canal, lol... They normally come with quality cables anyway. Having the ability to use the app store is basically where this portable player shines, so if someone isn't willing to spend hours waiting for a FLAC converter to turn over all of your stereo CDs into the format, then it's pretty much an easy way to get quality audio out of the device without the need for going the extra to really take advantage of it. However, the battery life is abysmal when it's driving a pair of IEMs & listening to higher res music files. I have to charge this thing after roughly 6-8 hours of heavy listening every day, so be prepared for that... Otherwise, it's a solid device, & it gets me through the day. I'd highly recommend getting a case for this player because I feel as though one drop is all it will take for it to bite the dust. The tone is really silky smooth & loud. Sony really likes to show off! I have my volume set to 50, & no sound gets in or out. I like bass, but I listen to soo much heavy metal & rock music along with J Rock now, that I'll probably never be able to review it. It's there, though. The highs & mids are soothing, but still pretty out there at times. I wouldn't say they're exactly unique, if you've owned a lot of Sony devices like I have, so I'm pretty much used to it. I wouldn't pay full price for this device because of the battery, though. Wait for it to go on sale or spend the extra cash on a different player with a superior lithium battery. You can also buy refurbished or used, just don't drop $900 on this thing, like I did!

I think i'll have to return, i may have a defective one.

Decent player
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great Walkman overall, play all kinds of music files, running Android helps a lot especially for music streaming. However, the battery life is quite bad and it does not have enough power to drive audiophile headphones

Sony Masterpiece
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's the perfect way to distinguish between enthusiast and love for music. The only way to enjoy today's music. The compact and sleek design gives me the opportunity to take my Sony Walkman anywhere and be it the star of the show. Whether it's the gym or a last minute party the Sony Walkman is the center of attention. It's the only way to truly experience music.

Excellent Player
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, the battery charge isn't as bad as reported. You do need to shut off what you don't need, such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, which each draw power. I go to bed listening to my Sony NW-ZX507 having used various headphones, including the Sony MDR-ZR7M2, Focal Elegia, and Audio-Technica ATH MSR7b, and can wake up after some seven hours, w/music still playing, w/some charge still left over. Of course, the higher the impedance on your headphones, the more power it will take to drive them, and so the greater the battery draw. The Sony MDR-ZR7M2 - 56-ohm The Focal Elegia - 35-ohm The Audio-Technica ATH MSR7b - 36-ohm Things that I like on the ZX507's, is it having both a 4.4mm Balanced Wire Plug and a 3.5mm Unbalanced one. Also too, Sony finally got rid of their proprietary plug. I have Hi-Res Music stored on it, and using the 4.4mm Balanced Wires, the music sounds as best as it can be, outside of live. The one item I don't like, the Android OS.

Q: QuestionIs audio playback resampled by the Android OS, or will the device play native sample rates from services like Tidal?
Asked by JohnQ.
- A:Answer Yes and no. I know it sounds like a non-answer. The device did not support Hi-Res playback for any 3rd party app when it was originally released. Only the official Walkman app would play Hi-Res at their native sampling/bit rate at the time. A firmware update released May 2020 added support for 3rd party apps to play Hi-Res without resampling, version 2.00.05. You can update the firmware OTA like any modern Android smartphone.

Q: QuestionA serious question--why are some MP3 players, such as this one, so expensive? What does this one have that justifies its costs, compared to a much less expensive Sony player?
Asked by W00DST0CK.
- A:Answer It's because this device can play a higher bit rate then the others can which basically means it produces a more detailed sound. For some like my brother those few extra bits are what make or break a quality sound, I can't tell the difference. Lucky for me the density of my wallet and head are in tune for this purchase.
