I am a huge fan of both Asian cinema in general and of Jet Li, so this was pretty much an instant buy for me. The cinemetography and special effects are spectacular and the story is very imaginitive. The film is roughly a 50/50 mix of action set against elaborate set pieces and actual story/character development, so if you are looking for just straight up martial arts action this may not be your ticket. That being said, the film is definitely a visual feast from start to finish and most of the actors turn in solid performances, Jet Li in particular. There are a few "quirky" characters that seem to be there more for comic relief, but that seems to be a staple in many of these types of films. If I would ciriticize anything, I would have preferred a slightly more serious tone throughout given the overall themes of human vs. demon conflict and the forbidden love story, but at the end of the day it was an enjoyable and highly imaginitive film that is worth viewing.

Who doesn't like a Jet Li movie? The visual effects are on the cheesy side but the story plot is awesome and I am so glad I was able to get a copy for my self to add to my BIG movie collection before it would be discontinued. If you like movies like these, please get your copy now before they sell out. That happened to me with The One by Jet Li. Sold out everywhere and only 1 person had two bluray copies on eBay so I bought 1 of the two copies.

This movie was very fun to watch, and was great to watch in HD. It is moving art both cinematically and visually. It has a definite import feel as far as story telling and character development goes, so American audiences may be a bit thrown off at first if they haven't seen many martial arts themed movies. However, it is almost fairytale like in that the world is surreal and the visuals are fantastic. The story is a bit scattered, but there is enough action to keep your attention and really has re-watchability.
