Q: is this a rubbery plastic or a hard acrylic like lifeproof?
A: Hard acrylic.
Q: Is it protective? If I drop it will my phone crack?
A: I've had his case for three generations, it protects the phone and acreen from normal drops form your hand or lap. I wouldn't recommend testing it from a few stories up. As long as surface is flat you should be ok. Dropping it on rocky surface is risky because it could still crack the screen.
