Synopsis

The first season of Star Trek: Enterprise may have begun in the year 2001, but it's 2151 A.D. so far as the stars (and the fans) are concerned. Now that the Vulcans have (none too enthusiastically) been persuaded to provide humans with star charts that will permit them to travel through deep space, Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) and his crew are ready to climb aboard the Enterprise NX-01, Earth's first Warp Five starship. Loyally serving under Archer's command are attractive Vulcan science officer T'Pol (Jolene Blalock) (who has been sent along because the Vulcans aren't entirely convinced that the humans are advanced enough to handle the job alone); Archer's old pal Cmdr. Charles "Trip" Tucker III (Connor Trinneer), the ship's chief engineer; stuffy British munitions expert Lt. Malcolm Reed (Dominic Keating); interstellar-travel veteran Ensign Travis Mayweather (Anthony "A.T." Montgomery), the Enterprise's helmsman; resident "brain" Ensign Hoshi Sato (Linda Park), the ship's communications officer; and Denobulan doctor Phlox (John Billingsley), who has a working knowledge of virtually every species and civilization in the galaxy. And we mustn't forget the ship's mascot, Archer's pet beagle, Porthos. No sooner has the Enterprise undertaken its first mission than the crew discovers that they have become enmeshed in the long-running Temporal Cold War, and that they had better keep several steps ahead of a mysterious futuristic, genetically manipulative race called the Suliban. Along the way, the Enterprise personnel have their first major encounters with the redoubtable Klingons and the mercurial Ferengi (though the latter race is never identified by name), the sensitive Hoshi has her first panic attack, the entire crew becomes hostile and paranoid thanks to a hallucinogenic pollen, a rapidly growing alien baby threatens to engulf the Enterprise, the mystery of the "lost colony" Terra Nova is solved in rather disturbing fashion, Trip uncovers a startling secret about T'Pol, and a Suliban subversive manages to insinuate himself onto the ship. Also, fans of the old sci-fi series Quantum Leap should enjoy the episode "Detained," which reunites actors Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell. The season ends with the first of Star Trek: Enterprise's cliffhangers, as Archer and former crew member Daniels (Matt Winston) are compelled to travel through time to thwart a deadly Suliban sabotage scheme. ~ Hal Erickson

As we all know CBS has finally decided to grace if Trekkie fans with the first outing of the Star Trek Universe. For the first time blu ray fans can enjoy the great PQ and AQ of blu ray or can they? Not on the same level as the remastered ST:TOS or ST:TNG that is currently out on blu ray CBS has done the best with what they have been given. Sadly for a show that came out much later in the franchise history it suffers for very poor picture quality. I assume that decent masters were not found for the remastering but that doesn't take away the fact the show is still enjoyable. If you an overall look the poor PQ and are a Trek fan then you might want to check this out. Be advise that the Best Buy exclusive is not on the disc but a redeemable code via Cinema Now. And even then you might not even get the content that you are redeeming. I redeemed the code and got Parental Guidance and not the content I was supposed to get.

In talking to fellow Star Trek/SF fans, Enterprise always gets the short shrift. For some reason, people hate it. The sad fact is that most of these haters have never seen it. It's a fantastic show. For me it ranks 3rd behind the original series, and Next Gen. Now we get this fantastic package with beautiful looking episodes supported by extensive, enlightening extras. I urge any Star Trek/SF fan to go out there and buy Season One of Enterprise. You won't be disappointed.

Enterprise finds it way onto Blu ray, Paramount, skipping Deep Space 9 and Voyager, for Enterprise, which was already filmed in HD. You should know that the FX shots have not been remastered, like Star Trek: The Next Generation. The extras on this set are worth it on their own!

This is my favorite "Trek" series. See how it all started with tension between Human and Vulcans. See how the federation encountered other species which appeared in the original Kirk series. Fun, exciting. Good stuff.

Season 1 may not be the best overall series, but there are some solid episodes and fantastic special effects. The video transfer leaves some desire, but it does look better than DVD.

I know a lot of people complain about this series, but I liked it a lot. it is a mix between the old and the new, and shows how a lot of things came about in the Star Trek Universe

Star Trek Enterprise is a believable start to going into outer space, and fits in well with the other series that proceeded it.
