Q: What are the measurements of the stand?
A: This item is 31 inches high, 28 inches wide and 15.75 inches deep.
A: Well, the tv stand might fit on the cabinet but the tv screen would, of course, extend well past the cabinet. As long as you feel there is no risk that someone might bump into the screen and knock the tv off the cabinet, then you should be ok. The cabinet is certainly strong enough and stable enough to hold the weight of a 55 inch tv.
Q: could the shelves be used for other audio equipment (receiver, cd?)
A: Yes, I use mine for my cable box and my recorder.
Q: Just making sure this is already put together
A: No, it comes in many pieces. I opted to put it together myself because I've done this with a lot of items like it. Look for the review I just posted for info on assembly glitches. Also note, Best Buy offers assembly (I assume at your home) for an additional cost. I'm a 70-year-old woman and I was able to do it, but I'm pretty handy.

Q: Can you NOT install the swivel top? If so, is top of cabinet smooth?
A: Without the swivel top, top of cabinet will have one hole (about 1/4 to 1/2 inch diameter) in the center. Otherwise, top is smooth and nicely finished to match the rest of the product.
Q: How many degrees does the swivel turns in either direction?
A: I didn't test it, but I'm thinking it would go all the way around in either direction. Furniture is against a wall now, so I can't check it.
