I just picked up a 43" Sony XBR43X800D UHD TV this afternoon for our bedroom. I decided i wanted to pull in some OTA channels because sometimes D*TV will lose it's signal if it's snowing hard. I noticed the Antenna's Direct (CSM1-XG) which has received favorable reviews here & other websites that on sale & thought about buying it.. I bought into the marketing hype with the 65 mile range on the Terk box. We're about 32+ miles away from the Boston/Denham towers according to AntennaWeb.org I've purchased @ least 4-5 other OTA over the years & none of them did very well. I hooked-up the Terk & did a scan & came back 20 minutes later & too my amazement, I received 28 stations most with very strong signals. I really wasn't expecting much & thought I would be returning it. Here's he thing, I still might. The issue is that the two screws that install into the base. No matter how I tried (using both manual & powered screwdrivers) the screws will only descend half way. Their simply stuck & won't go any further. I might try hanging it on the wall (maybe) I really wanted the unit on it's base upright. Indoor antennas can be tricky. They work for some & not for others. It's all based on your location & interference. I'm shocked I did so well because I'm not in a favorable spot. It's working very well for me.

I could not get this to work at first, and finally called the manufacturer for some help. First the booster needed to be removed (that just sounded wrong!) and then the front of the antenna box should be facing toward the outside, which left the not so covered backside showing. I was told in the store it could set behind my TV, but that would only work IF your TV is in front of a window. Once I made all those changes and raised the antenna up as high as possible, it has been working great! I get at least 32 channels (including 5 or 6 spanish stations) and they are nice and clear. Some tend to pixelate a little for a second more than others, but I guess that could just be outside interference that I have no control over. This is my first antenna, so I have nothing to compare it with, but I am pleased.

I haven't used an antenna for television broadcasts for decades, so I was surprised to see that broadcast TV within a reasonable range of the broadcast tower (20 miles in my case) produced a quality of picture comparable to cable TV. My local ABC network affliiate came through this antenna with excellent clarity, color and brightness; no haze, snow or interference and no fluxuations at all. That said, different stations have different transmission power, so they won't all appear with the exact same signal quality. Another factor is positioning. The antenna needs to be mounted on a wall, or upright near a window on the side of the house closest to the broadcasting tower. Anything less than that can cause the picture to pixellate or freeze during broadcasts. So take it home, test all the channels you can get and try placing the antenna in different positions to be sure it works in your home. If there's a good signal where you are, you'll get a great picture. It's worth the effort to get real broadcast TV free of monthly charges. Like the good ol' days. (And you don't have to climb on the roof anymore.)

I was impressed with the quality of the unit overall and the fact that it has a decent gauge coaxial cable coming out of it to connect to the TV. I bought it hoping it would pull in more stations than a $29 1byone flat panel antenna I was already using. Unfortunately the Terk performed no better than that, and yet it cost $50 more. I ended up returning it and went with an outdoor rooftop antenna because of my distance from the towers. Both flat panel units brought in 21 channels, of which only about 14 had reliably strong enough signals to watch consistently, whereas a small RCA rooftop antenna immediately captured 45 channels, all of which come in great day or night. I don't think I would count on any of the small indoor flat panel antennas to be good for anything more than about 30 miles away from the broadcast Towers. My house is almost 50 miles away.

After shopping online, we went into the local Best Buy to purchase an indoor antenna. We intended to get a Clear Stream Eclipse based on reviews, but the salesperson said this Terk model had better performance in our area. We paid more than 50% more than planned to give this antenna a try. It hooked up easily and programmed in a snap. It increased our channel availability compared to our old indoor antenna and cleared up four others that had been in-and-out. Unfortunately that reception was short-lived. The next morning, even with perfectly clear weather outside, we were back to the same reception as the old antenna and also lost four other stations. We will be returning the Terk. Hopefully others in our area will continue to be pleased with its performance, but it just didn't work for us. We are grateful for the Best Buy policy allowing us to return this antenna easily.

I would love to be able to get rid of DirecTV. It's overpriced, and like everyone else, I don't watch even 1/4th of the stuff they stick you with! Nevertheless, I thought the indoor antenna was wishful thinking. Was I wrong! This Terk works flawlessly and has since I first plugged it in. It requires no "fiddling", the picture is bright and clear, and the sound is far superior to DirecTV. It pulls in all the network stations I watch consistently and many others I haven't tried yet. If you even think you might try "cord-cutting", start with this Terk. I've used nothing else on my bedroom TV, even though it's still connected to DirecTV; and I intend to buy another one for the kitchen. I honestly believe getting rid of cable/satellite is now possible. I did not find a single flaw with this product.

Best (indoor) DTV antenna I've tried

I've tried about half a dozen different indoor antennas, and this has proven much more effective than any of the others. With the other antennas, I've been able to get 30-36 channels in the Boston inner suburbs; I got 41 and 47 with two different scan attempts with this. I prefer the rigid vertical plate and base mount of this unig to the more common thin ones; that's a matter of taste. I also like the multiple mounting options. I would prefer a longer cable, particularly from the antenna to the amplifier, but that's easy to fix with another cable and barrel connector. I'm sure that with an outdoor antenna I could get more channels; I'm unable to get WMUR (about 60 miles distance), for instance. But that requires significantly more work to install. For living near a metro area, this works very well.

With the hype of the new 4K TVs we weren’t pulling enough signal off one antenna for all of our TVs in the House. So, easy enough, buy an individual indoor antenna...right? Well, I figured since we live in an area less than 15 miles than where major tv is broadcasting that but knowing also we live in an area where signal can be somewhat difficult for us sometimes, I chose to go with a better antenna than the inexpensive one the salesman was pushing for me to get. I got the antenna home and didn’t think it was going to work at first once I had hooked it up, but then realized it had to be pulled away from the tv some and then it worked great.Wheeewwww....are you exhausted???? I sure was!!!! Haha!
