    Synopsis

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Ichabod and Mr. Toad is a two-part Walt Disney cartoon feature based on a pair of well known stories. The first half of the film is an adaptation of Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, all about gawky 17th century schoolteacher Ichabod Crane and his love for the beautiful Katrina. The girl's vengeful ex-beau Brom Bones decides to scare Ichabod out of Sleepy Hollow by filling the impressionable teacher's brain with stories about the ghostly Headless Horseman--who of course makes an appearance that very night! The second half of Ichabod and Mr. Toad is based on the "Toad of Toad Hall" stories from Kenneth Grahame's The Wind and the Willows. The aristocratic but childish Mr. Toad loves motorcars, but his affection leads him to a jail term when he is accused of stealing an automobile. It's up to Toad's faithful friends to break Toad out of jail and expose the real crooks. One of Disney's better "omnibus" cartoon features, Ichabod and Mr. Toad is enhanced by the narrative skills of Bing Crosby in the Ichabod segment and Basil Rathbone in the Mr. Toad sequence. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Let me tell you my fellow Walt Disneys for life's, this you must get right away. The film begins with, mr toad, as I call it mr toads wild crazy excellent ride. The transfer to DVDs to blu Ray was thee best choice, that, the company made. There was so much done to all of the hours put in to clean up this one. & it has never looked spectular like it does now, & there are so, many things you can see & observe like, never before. Now, sleepy hollow, or icahbod if you prefer, Amazing!!! Like this one was my absolute one of kind film, that is never ending. Like the vinyl, it has a very powerful song, the headless horseman. Like the film, it really is just one of a kind. Because, it has a very great ending which makes the whole film have a great feel & just wow!. So don't wait get this one as quick as you can....

Two short films that tells the Legend of Sleepy Hollow & a character piece from The Wind in the Willow via Disney animation. Sleepy Hallow shows the rivalry between school teacher, Ichabod Crane, & town bully, Brom Bones, vying for the love of Katrina von Tassel. Throw in a headless horseman & a wild ride through the woods to have a classic Halloween favorite. Crooner Bing Crosby narrates the tale and sings a few melodies. Wind in Willow tells of Mr. Toad who has extravagant tastes and pursuits along with the finest estate on the river. The adventures of Mr. Toad unfold as he needs help from his friends to keep out of trouble.

      Classic piece of work

Ichabod and Mr. Toad comes from a point in the Disney studios history were they were trying the idea of making two shorter stories back to back and combining them with a narrative bridge, as also seen in Fun & Fancy Free. Though both short films on here are entertaining, there is no question that the adaptation of The Wind in the Willows is the star here. Toad's adventure and quest for red motor cars is a better paced and more memorable then the slower Sleepy Hollow. Once again, this is another piece of Disney animation history, and features work from many of the studios top Golden Age animators, so any animation buffs won't be disappointed.

The Disney artwork of the 40s and 50s is of the highest caliber. The Adventures Of Ichabod And Mr. Toad was produced in 1949. Top talent such as Basil Rathbone - narrator of Mr. Toad - and Bing Crosby - who narrates and sings in Ichabod - was recruited. Crosby was the reigning superstar of the day. Disney didn't skimp on the talent. Children of today will enjoy this just as we did when we were kids. The presentation on bluray is flawless. My only quibble is the lack of meaningful extras on the disc, the only thing that prevented me giving this 5 stars.

Now many know the story of Ichabod Crane but not many know the story of Mr.Toad. These two short stories are so different yet of a time when people read more and verbally told stories. Which creates a fireplace like setting where people gather and enjoy each other's company. A feeling of nostalgia firmly set in a time gone by. The Blu-ray restoration truly made this feeling pop. Hopefully Disney will one day dig a little deeper into their vaults and pull out more time-capsule like gems for future restored Blu-ray releases. The future of cinema would be better for it.

These movies are a little dated, but the Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a great introduction to creepy Halloween movies for kids. It's not extremely scary or in any way inappropriate for little kids, but its a great story. Kids will laugh at Ichabod Crane. The chase scene with Ichabod and the Headless Horseman is one of the best in kids movies. I followed up watching this movie with taking the kids to Sleepy Hollow, NY around Halloween where they have a lot of activities revolving around the Headless Horseman

If you're a fan of Sleepy Hallow or Frog and Toad this one is for you! If you've never seen Sleepy Hallow it's a great Halloween movie for adults and kids. I'm an adult and I love it! Who can forget Frog and Toad from when we were kids?! It's a classic! The Blu-ray is beautiful! I have the original DVD and the difference, although not something you may notice right away, when it's compared it seems like day and night! For the price it is very, very worth it, for yourself, your kids, grand kids, or just a fun gift.

This combo of both stories is good to have if you want a look at classic Disney animation, but don't want to sit through a full-length feature. The Mr. Toad feature could be used to encourage to read the actual "The Wind in the Willows" book it's liberally lifted from. The Headless Horseman story is alright, though played a bit too much for laughs. Still, not so bad to have on the kiddies' Halloween viewing list.
