The Christmas Toy [DVD] [1986]

This video is great. There is a great message to be had. Because it isn't shown on TV, it is a refreshing movie to watch. My family has enjoyed it on VHS for years, as have others who have viewed with us. Very appropriate for all ages. Makes for a nice quiet time for visiting young ones as most have not seen it. It is a Muppet production so think Sesame Street: the characters are puppet like and their voices are entertaining.

I personally love this movie from Jim Henson studios. It was a made-for-TV movie a long time ago, when I was a kid, but it's one of my family's favorite fiilms to watch over Christmas. I love the little tiger, Rugby, and Mew, the cat-toy that's taken advantage of throughout the film, but is loyal and truthful and brave when its really needed. Yeah, the songs are corny, and the dialogue is one-dimensional, but the focus is on kids, not winning an Academy Award. It has a great message at the end of the spirit of Christmas and accepting change while still holding on the best things in life. Plus, I hate to spoil the movie, but Kermit makes a guest appearance as a wannabe Santa Clause. Too cute.
