Synopsis

The Secret Life of Pets
This animated comedy from Illumination Entertainment asks the question: what do our pets do all day when we're not home? For the critters living in a Manhattan apartment building, the answer is: whatever they want! A terrier named Max (voice of Louis C.K.) regularly invites his friends to hang out at his place while his owner (Ellie Kemper) is gone, but his quiet life is upended when said owner also takes in Duke (Eric Stonestreet), a stray mutt whom Max instantly dislikes. Their feud eventually causes both of them to get lost in New York City, and as they work together to find their way home, they cross paths with a vicious bunny (Kevin Hart) who plans to lead a group of abandoned pets on a mission of revenge against humanity. Jenny Slate, Albert Brooks, Lake Bell, Hannibal Buress, Tara Strong, Steve Coogan, Dana Carvey, and Bobby Moynihan also lend their voices to the film, which was directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me 2) and Yarrow Cheney. ~ Jack Rodgers, Rovi

From the creators of Despicable Me and Minions comes the latest installment Illumination has to offer. Ever wonder what your pets do when you're not around? Well, they're doing what you do: socializing, listening to music, eating from the fridge, watching TV, you name it. And for one dog named Max, life's plenty good because all he need's is his bowl of food, a bed to sleep in, and the comfort of his owner. One day, his life is turned upside down when his owner brings home a bigger, burlier, and much sloppier dog named Max, who quickly steals his thunder and all the love and attention he used to get. Their rivalry then takes a turn when they end up getting separated, and must work together to get back home. If this plot sounds familiar, then yes, this is indeed the same (or at least very similar) plot as Toy Story, only this time, it involves anthropomorphic animals instead of living toys. You could say that this is Illumination copying Pixar, but it's not entirely. It's a very similar premise to be certain. But, Illumination puts their own spin on it by making something fun and entertaining for the whole family with just as heartwarming a message, and a slightly different spin with a villain who's deviousness is hidden behind a cute exterior. Overall, watch the Secret Life of Pets today, and forget your troubles.

The Secret Life of pets and yes a pet love story and even a plot to get rid of a new addition (a dog recently adopted by his owner.) This 3d version is great as is the regular blue ray version. This animated movie has so many twists and turns it keeps you on the edge of your seat and laughing out loud. Think you know what your pets do when your away or at work? Well guess again!! This is a great little movie for all and the 3d effects are great. My granddaughters and I truly enjoyed it. So, get out that pop corn popper, melt the butter and add some salt put on the 3d glasses or pop in the blue ray and prepared to be entertained. I know you gonna like this one.

The film is humorous in that it depicts our pets in a way similar to Pixar's Toy Story films. It tells us what they'd do when we're not at the house. The pets always reminded me of certain pets of ours: Buddy reminded me of my dachshund, Duke reminded me of my sister's Shih Tzu, and the Chihuahua reminded me of my Chihuahua. It does a good job in showing us how our pets have unique minds than expected, however, I feel that some plot points like how Snowball finally gets adopted and Duke's owner no longer living are not paid attention to a lot. Nonetheless, this is a good movie to enjoy together as a family.

purchased this movie to watch with my students at the end of the school year when teachers pack up their rooms, and students have finished all their testing and taken supplies home. They definitely enjoyed the movie! It was funny, cute, and one of the characters reminded me a lot of my own dog. Love that Amazon Instant allows me to play movies from my computer to my smartboard without worrying about losing DVDs and VHS tapes, and I don't have to worry about accidentally packing them while I'm cleaning up for the summer.

Funny and engaging, with an excellent voice cast, this animated animal adventure will entertain audiences of all ages, with perhaps an extra dollop of appeal for devoted pet owners. It's amusing to see what Max and his buddies get up to when their people are gone for the day, from watching telenovelas to raiding the fridge to rocking out to heavy metal music. And the plot, while not exactly unique (it's hard to miss the parallels to Toy Story, for instance), moves at a good clip, with enough twists and imaginative details to keep you fully engaged.

It's a nice, light adventure of the type we all kind of hope was secretly true when we were kids. That our pets, aside from pining away waiting for us to come home each time we have to leave them, can occupy themselves in fun and sweet ways until our return. For the protagonist, Max, that cycle is disrupted with the arrival of a new housemate determined to...throw his weight around. It sets of a series of mishaps that leads them, and the rest of their friends, on an adventure to show just what makes up the bonds of loyalty, friendship, and family.

The pets movie was cute for children and adults. There was bad guys like all movies that the pets had to deal with. I think it showed good points of what happens when you break the rules and bad things happen. As in all movies it's a teaching moment to talk to your kids about some of the experiences the pets went threw. Respect of others, getting along and following the rules are just a few topics to go over. I would say it's cute and funny and would recommend watching together to discuss it. Enjoy , grab some snacks sit back have fun.

Bought this movie off the recommendation of a family friend and liked it very much. The animation is smooth and details and color show well on the Blu-ray. The characters are lively and varied with good balance and details that give them personality. Some of the animated city outlines are done well and show well on the screen. The sound is good and lively but mainly controlled except in the initial presentations of the "secret" lives of the pet characters. A unique idea that approached well in the story and expanded upon. Good family fun.
