Like most games in this genre the campaign mode goes fairly quickly. The fun/benefit always winds up being multiplayer. Its a good game though I just think the genre makers are getting over with these campaigns.

Love this game. I am not a big 3rd person shooter player. But I played the 1st GHost Recon on PC and loved it.... So thought I'd get back in it. First off I will say that I played Max Payne 3 which is another 3rd Peterson shooter. And I was not impress with it. The. Campaign was good but the multiplayer was just ok.... 4 me. Now the reason why I mention this is because both games have a cover system, Ghost is far more better with its cover play. The other great aspect of this game is the gunsmithing. This allows u to modify ur gun to ur calibration. Like for instance, changing ur barrel, stock or side rail. There is more to modifying ur gun than just ur optics or camo for ur gun. Awesome idea. The campaign is pretty good, I've only played a little to get a better handle on the mechanics on how to perform some of the cover to cover moves, which I recommend . It doesn't take long into the game to get to most of the stuff that would help u out in the multiplayer. There is another mode called guerilla and this is a great team based game. Plays up to 4 players. You can play alone also. Very much like black-ops zombie mode. U capture a point and then hold it for as long as u can as waves of enemy forces go to your location. The multiplayer is also good. But it is no COD!! This is a objective base multiplayer, much like battlefield. Run and gun will get u shot very fast... I know I try it occasionally it doesn't work. Team work is so important . If you want to play a game with a different take on a modern warfare game play this......very fun!

Doesn't live up to the Clancy name

I have always been a fan of tom clancy games. There is usually a ton of polish to each one in terms of gameplay and visuals. GR:Advanced Warfighter is probably the best example of this with the tom clancy name for me.
Unfortunately, future soldier shares none of these characteristics with other tc titles. Right as i got into the single player campaign I could tell that a few things were off.
The visuals are very mediocre. They aren't terrible but they are noticeably bland. I really can't believe how the visuals took this much of a step back when past tom clancy titles from forever ago look a lot better. Now a game doesnt have to be the best looking in order for me to say its a good game. I can still enjoy a game with basic graphics. However, some visual hiccups are less forgivable for me than others. Pop-in in future soldier is a pretty big problem. There were multiple occasions within just an hour of playtime when entire buildings would appear 20-30 feet in front of my character. This is a visual flaw that I can't get used to. It kills the experience for me. As you can imagine, this also means draw distances take a hit as well and in a shooter that's a problem.
It doesn't help that the environments are very uninteresting either. There is hardly any detail added to these levels. They are pretty boring to play through. Nothing exciting to see whatsoever. Thankfully, however, that's not the case with the actual ghosts in your team. Your character and your teammates look pretty good. Each one has their own unique look and they look pretty cool. I think all of the attention went designing them.
I guess i could have looked passed the visual flaws if the game was fun to play. Unfortunately, I didn't find the action very exciting either. The firefights are basic and just end up being more get into cover, pop out, shoot, move up, etc. This isn't really even the problem though. The level design is very linear most of the time offering very little in tactical decision making. There were plenty of firefights i got myself into where I found an alleyway that looked perfect for a flanking opportunity. As I moved into it,however, I saw a indicator in the middle of the screen telling me that I was about to leave the battlefield or something and to return immediately.
There are missions that do focus on stealth as well. These do offer up something better than the firefight focused ones but they are still flawed. There is some satisfaction in crouching to enable your stealth camo and taking out a guard from behind with a stealth kill. Some of the satisfaction is lost, however, when you realize the enemy AI isn't very intelligent at all. There were multiple occasions when I would take out a guard walking around a few yards a away from a group of guards chatting to each other and they wouldn't notice. One of them would have a perfect viewpoint of the dead body and he somehow wouldn't see it.
In some missions you wont have to try very hard at all to avoid the enemy all together. There will be paths in some levels with very low to no enemy population whatsoever. This proves to be boring. There were 2 missions that I remember when I didn't run into more than two enemy guards. I just crouched to activate my stealth camo and then ran through the whole level hardly having to stop to let a guard pass by. Not my type of fun in a game.
When you do have to take out multiple targets, however, you and your teammates are up to the task. You can tag an enemy for each of your squad to take out, give the order to fire, then watch as each of the guards die in a synchronized fashion.
I can't really say much for the multiplayer. I bought the game used and I didn't feel like shelling out 10 more dollars for the multiplayer just to find that I didnt enjoy that part of the game either. I did play the beta for it awhile back and had a decent time with it but 10 dollars is asking a bit too much from me.
I was really excited for this game. It has the tom clancy name on it so of course I'd be interested. For me, however, it didn't have any of the quality I've come to expect from the tom clancy name. If you want to try it to see if you like it definitely rent it first. At least wait for a discount.

Still worth the LONG wait

It has been a long wait, but overall well worth it. There are a couple points that i lost a team member (single player campaign) as he decided to keep crawling into a wall forcing me to restart from my last checkpoint. Also the cut scenes have a few times where it gets jerky, but the overall story and gameplay help make up for it. The other bummer is i have not been able to find a way to do much on a split screen actionthat previous games had.
