Cheap-You Get What You Pay For

cheap vcr; had this vcr now for over 3 months;
Initial setup included satellite hookup instructions which were confusing (I have no satellite).
Many new tapes do not play well; they view at another recording speed. Eg, it plays on SP instead of the recorded SLP for the first half hour of a six hour tape.
Tracking control is average, at best.
Fast forward speed #3 on the DVD player is *very* fast--unusable for normal commercial skipping or short scanning. #3 speed is considerably faster than FF speed #2.
Has no tuner so another device with a tuner is required before recording with this unit. Arrow control keys are not laid out the best.
I'll feel fortunate if this lasts 2 years! You get what you pay for.

The unit arrived in a reasonable amount of time & was well packed.
We have cable TV without a set-top control box & have always used only coax cables to hook up 1 or 2 VCR to the TV set. Since the unit doesn't have an internal tuner, we had to plug the cable coax into an old vcr first (using its tuner), then use the a/v cables provided to connect it to the new unit, and then connect the new unit to the TV. It took a while to get all the plugs into the correct jacks, since the process was new to me.
The DVD player & VCR seem to work well. One complaint I have is that tapes recorded at SLP have poor picture quality when played back. I've tried old & new tapes recorded on the new unit & other VCR with the same results. Recordings at SP have satisfactory picture quality.
On occasion, I've used the VCR to record (at SP of course) a commercial DVD. The steps for doing so were clear & easy to follow.
Overall, it meets our needs at a reasonable price.

Just picked this up last night and set it up. I haven't been able to watch my VHS tapes in ages, so it was fun to bust into that collection again. Set up was simple, as you might expect for a VHS/DVD player. The remote takes 2 double-A batteries and are not included. Not a big deal, but I didn't have any laying around my apartment. I have to pick some up today to finish the set up, like setting the clock. Just be aware and prepared to have the batteries before you pick it up, and you'll have no problems!
I bought this refurbished, so it was a good deal. I haven't found any problems with it so far.

This unit has excellent automatic tracking as well as manual. It was able to compensate for the noise on some of my older VHS tapes. It is a good value compared to other units. It is hard to find good VHS/DVD recorders.

I was trying to find a VCR/DVD combo player that didn't cost a fortune. I was lucky to come across this product. It is very easy to set up for almost all televisions. The VCR side can be a little difficult to program, but the DVD side has never given me any difficulties. VCR cassettes and DVD s work great and I haven't heard of any complaints or come across any issues.
So this was a great product and I'm very fortunate to own it.

Don't like the remote.

The machine is black and the buttons on it are so small I have to turn on the lights, and put on glasses to read them. But the machine is so big it won't fit in the same space my old machine did. The remote is inconveinent, and not very good. The buttons are all in strange places, and you have to wave the remote back & forth practically right in front of the machine to make it work. No option for closed captioning either.

I would recommend this product to others. It is a very good product at a reasonable price. The product was easy to hook up and easy to operate. I use my dvd/vcr combo everyday. It is a very good quality product. I can't find anything bad about the product.

I did want to pay a fortune for a player for use with my TV in the bedroom, so I took a chance getting a 'REFURBISHED" model. I have a Toshiba in my living room but it is different from this model.. The instructions are extremely hard to follow and the hook up diagrams are also. Somehow I got it hooked up on the second try. I have to use my TV remote to turn the VCR part on but it works. For the price and what I want it for its perfect. I am not as picky as some. Also it arrived nicely packed in what appeared to be a Toshiba box in just a few days after I ordered it.
