A: It does come with a USB cable to charge from a computer or another USB charger port.
A: From here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Mobile_Radio_Service#Range "As with other UHF radio services, reliable range is considered to be line-of-sight and the distance to the radio horizon can be estimated based on antenna height. Theoretically, the range between two hand-held units would be about one or two miles (about 1.5–3 km); mobile units have higher antennas and a range of around 5 miles (8 km). A GMRS repeater with an antenna that is high above the surrounding terrain can extend the usable range over a wide area – for example, up to a 20-mile (32.2 km) radius around the repeater station.[6] Obstructions such as hills and buildings can reduce range. Higher power does not necessarily give a proportional increase in range, although it may improve the reliability of communication at the limits of line-of-sight distance."
Q: Does any body know where I can get a manual? I have started a support center case with Uniden.
A: The manual was actually hidden within the packing - I also thought mine was missing until I was ripping the packaging apart to dispose of it. But you can get a pdf copy by calling 1-800-297-1023
A: Yes. FRS radios are great to take on cruises. Great way to atay in touch with family and friends while at sea.
Q: Can you use regular batteries in place of the rechargeable ones
A: I used regular non chargeable AA batteries in the field in Africa when the rechargeable ones ran down. They actually lasted longer than the rechargeable ones .. but of course I then had to throw them away when they ran down.
A: Any micro USB cord will work!
A: You just need to press and hold the menu button to turn on/off the unit.
