A: It is convertable. Factory set to recirculation, but can be adjusted to either wall vent or roof vent
A: I'm assuming you're talking about the convection function. It depends on the temperature setting, but I did a side by side comparison compared to my gas oven at 365 degrees. The microwave was faster at about 15 minutes.
Q: is the vent located in the front top of unit?
A: it is convertible, it can vent either way!
A: First of all I would suggest you get a toaster to toast bread. This model does not have the browning eliminate that the $1000 model has. So, if you want a microwave that toasts bread then get the $1000 model. However in the 8 years I had the $1000 model I never toasted anything in it. Save the $500 and get an upscale toaster for $50.

Q: Do you have to have a vent to hook it up to? Does the brackets come with it?
A: Ronnie's honey, great question. The microwave can be vented through the roof or out the back, and the motor will need to be adjusted to make this happen. All microwaves come with brackets for mounting and have a guide to help you. I have provided a copy of the installation guide as that is the best information I can provide you with to see if this model will work in your home. Q: Are the sides stainless so it can be used as a free standing microwave?
A: No, the sides are black. Also, the design of this model prevents it from being used a free standing microwave.
A: The wheels will not melt.
