Q: What's the difference between this and UBPX700/M?
A: Hi UncleCasey, That is an excellent question! The difference between the UBP-X700U and the UBP-X700/M is simply the date they became available in the market; otherwise, you can expect identical core performance and features from both models. The UBP-X700/M became available on 4/21/2021, and the UBP-X700U is the most recent version, becoming available on 6/16/2025. We hope this answers your question and thanks for considering Sony products! Best regards, Dominick
Q: Does it support dolby vision?
A: Yes, if the disc has that function. The settings do have to be changed for it to properly work, it is not on by default.
A: Hi Sibble, The Sony UBP-X700U Ultra HD Blu-ray Player is officially designed with only Power and Eject buttons on the unit itself, confirming that dedicated playback controls like Play or Pause are not physically on the face of the player. If the remote is lost, full operation of the player, including starting playback and accessing menus, requires the remote control (RMT-VB201U). The only manufacturer-provided alternative control method besides the remote is the BRAVIA Sync (HDMI-CEC) feature, which, when properly set up and connected to a compatible TV, is intended to allow the TV's remote to govern the basic functions and playback controls of the player. Thanks for considering Sony products. Best regards, Eliab
Q: Can it play multi zones blue rays and does it come with 220 v
A: Hi RJ, thanks for asking! The Sony UBP-X700U, as sold by Sony and authorized retailers, does NOT support multizone or region-free playback for standard Blu-ray or DVD discs. It can only play discs that match the region code printed on the back of the player, with the exception of Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray discs, which are universally region-free. For detailed information, please check: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00029369 And the players work with: DC IN 12 V DC, 1.25 Thank you for your interest in Sony! This is a very nice unit, I had a few years old LG player that was having troubles with UHD discs, This one came highly recommended for a mid priced unit with no fanciness. What it does have is Dolby Vision, (No other unit in this. price range has) Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High REs and Master Audio, not available on other units in price range. I was always told Panasonic was the best but I couldn't get over everything this had to offer. Picture looks great, Sound is great going to home theater and plays all discs no problem. It's a very basic player with no wifi or streaming etc.. (thing I would never use it for anyways) and I like that, Just want a great BluRay player. Problem I have is Best Buy hasn't updated their website for this 700U, the newest player, they have the previous 700 description, it doesn't have Wifi (or apps etc.. no streaming) I called their tech support and was told it does, hours trying to figure it out on my end going back and forth with Best Buy to realize they have the description of the previous unit have. Great player, terrible web and then tech support that kept telling me to do things that the player doesn't offer and told me to exchange it. I didnt exchange it, so the 4 star rating isnt for unit its for Best Buy. Until gets 5 Stars.

I bought this 4k HD Blu-ray player to go with my new, 65" Sony Bravia OLED TV, and it works great! My wife and I are big movie fans, and especially old black and white films, and discovered the new 4k disks wouldn't play on my old Playstation 4. We decided to get a player rather than a Playstation 5, since I really don't game any more. At any rate, this is a great choice to pair with a Sony TV, and it handles the new 4k discs just fine, Even our older DVD's look better, although some of that may have to do with the new TV as well as the player, although Sony claims this player does make even older disks look better. At any rate, we've very happy with our new purchases!
