Unbelievably high-quality projector for the price!

The creators of this projector must have jumped ahead in time and come back with some good ideas for build efficiency and quality because this projector is exceedingly nice for the price in the market today and has some outstanding features that even beat out projectors I have reviewed that are triple its price! First of all, the image quality is stunning. Playing 1080p HDR videos from YouTube such as some of the LG screen quality test videos, I was blown away by the standard brightness of this monitor on our 100” projector screen in our bedroom. The colors were truly outstanding without bleached-out white tones, and the screen picture mode of “movie” proved to be our favorite for visual quality. An interesting connection we noticed on the brightness settings is that the fan ramps up quite loud on the highest brightness mode, while standard brightness is quieter and eco is the quietest on the fan. This didn’t affect our experience too much either way, as the fan noise is not obnoxiously loud, but I felt it was worth mentioning to users. The auto keystone and focus correction features on this projector are also incredible. They are super precise and even for our projector screen that is at an elevated angle in our bedroom more than 12 feet away from the projector, it was able to pick up the borders of the screen and adjust the image to fit the projector screen perfectly! I like that one can also select whether to have it auto-focus and keystone with each start-up or move. One of the standouts of this projector is the incredibly loud and clear speakers that are built in! I have not to date tested a projector that has speakers as loud and as sufficient as this for filling even a large living room with sound! While these speakers have no soundbar or bass-connected audio setup competition, I feel like the built-in speakers are perfectly sufficient for most users’ needs and will leave them satisfied. Further to this is the fact that this projector can act as a standalone Bluetooth-connected speaker for your phone or other Bluetooth devices! This is excellent and even further enhances the versatility of this projector. I could see how well this would fit into the use case for an all-in-one entertainment device for a small apartment or AV room. Set up on this speaker was also super easy, and the Google suite of features are just excellent. I love that the included remote is set up for voice assistant out of the box and that you even have access to some of the most common video services of the day on the remote! The only negative I have, and a very small one at that, is the lack of batteries included with the remote. Come on, Vankyo! Even my daughter’s $15 electric talking doll included two AAA batteries! Altogether, I have absolutely no problem rating this projector 5/5 stars. At this price, I just cannot imagine you going wrong. I have reviewed projectors in this price range, and I have been unable to find a competitor that has ALL these features gathered together in one projector! I 100% would recommend you give it a try for your entertainment or small business needs!

Nice Budget Projector - Good Value

The Vankyo V700 Neo is a standard throw compact projector that serves as a budget projector entry. I used the V700 Neo with my 92” fixed projector screen in the basement. Available image specs for the projector are fairly light so did my best to fill in the missing info. Specs: Resolution: 1920x1080p (FHD) Refresh Rate: 60Hz Input Lag: ~24ms (my rough measurement) Screen Distance: 4-20ft Screen Size: 40”@4ft to 100”@10’ Brightness: 400 lumen - No HDR support Contrast: 5000:1 Light Source: LED Bulb Life: 20,000 hours Throw Type: Standard Throw OS: Google TV Connectivity: (1) HDMI 1.4 or 2.0 port, (1) USB Type A, (1) 3.5mm audio out, Bluetooth, WiFi Sound: (2) 8W onboard speakers To start off the V700 Neo is a 1080p capable projector that outputs at 400 lumens of peak brightness. It is a compact size to make it easily portable from room to room, but not quite small enough to consider it truly portable mini projector. The projector body is 11.25” wide, 10.25” deep, 6” high, and weighs in just under 8lbs. There is a small threaded leveling foot on the front to help level/point the unit, which is better than stacking books under the front to get the correct angle. The foot threads out about 1”. The unit uses a single LCD projector bulb that is rated at 20,000 hours - this number drops if you have the brightness maxed out. I don’t see any replacement info, so I would bet if the LCD fails the projector would need to be replaced completely. The connections on the unit are pretty limited with just a single HDMI port, USB type A, and 3.5mm audio. The HDMI port does not appear to support ARC, and is likely just an HDMI 1.4 port. I connected it to my receiver with an HDMI cord to play my Xbox and Switch, but I could not get audio from the projector’s built-in apps. There are a few controls on the projector body for screen adjustments, but most controls are handled with the Bluetooth connected remote. The remote is not backlit, which is unfortunate since you are going to use it in a very dark room. Oddly enough they did not include batteries for the remote, so you will need to get 2-AAA batteries. The bottom of the projector also has a threaded insert for overhead mounting or can be used with a tripod. I used my heavy DSLR tripod to set the right height for the projector to match up with my screen. The projector also has built in 8W speakers, which can be used if you don’t have other audio options. Also included in the box are some long Q-Tips for cleaning and the instructions to do so. There is also the power brick, which is a laptop style power supply that has a removable C13 plugged cord. The removable cord is very short - less than 2 feet long. To reach the projector I had to go into my cord bin and bring out a 6’ C13 plugged cord. Positioning of the V700 was pretty easy thanks to the keystone adjustment process. I started locating the projector as best I could to align with my screen. I initially set it up on a stool before eventually switching to a tripod. My positioning was a little off angle from the center of my screen due to the location of my couch. To fill up my 92” screen I had the projector positioned about 8.5’ back from the screen, and about 2.5’ high. The center of my screen sits about 4.5’ high. To get the image centered I had to almost fully extend the foot and finish adjusting the image with the screen positioning controls. When the projector started up it projected the keystone positioning symbols and then automatically adjusted itself to the screen position/angle. I only needed to make some small adjustments to the position and focus of the image after this automatic process. System setup went fairly quick, and I didn’t have any issues with the Google TV process. My other projector is also Google TV based, so I knew what to expect. Getting logged in with my Google account pulled all of my streaming service info over, and didn’t require a bunch of service logins to accomplish. Overall, it only took 5ish minutes to setup and into an app. Switching around between apps and starting new movies/shows worked well. The interface is a little slow to react to the remote inputs but it isn’t egregious. I started out playing Across the Spiderverse – lots of dynamic colors and contrast going on, so it was a good piece of media to start with. My basement has a few windows (narrow basement windows) that I can fully blackout, but would let light in from the right side. I also have overhead can lighting broken into sections over the front (by the screen), middle (over seating), and back of the room. With the lighting on over the screen the image was really washed out in darker scenes. The 400 lumen brightness is not enough to overcome this. With the lights off at the screen, but on in the middle and back of the room the image was still getting washed out a little. You could certainly see everything except the really dark details. With all the lights off and the room blacked out the image was bright enough to see without any issues. Image quality out of this projector was better than I expected. I expected maybe some artifacting or bloom issues, but I didn’t really notice anything like that. I hooked up my PC and had my kids play a couple of games and test input lag. Playing casual games worked just fine. Minecraft worked well, and so did Plants vs. Zombies. Switching over to something more fast paced like Geometry Dash and TF2 was where the input lag took its toll. TF2 was still playable but you had to compensate a bit. Geometry Dash on the other hand was too affected to really be playable. The projector works well for casual games, but I would avoid playing anything fast paced or competitive on it. Setting the projector to peak brightness also kicks the fan on, which can be distracting if you only have the onboard speakers for sound. The onboard speakers are pretty weak even at max volume. A conversation in the same room could drown out even the most action packed sequences. I opted to connect it, via Bluetooth, to one of my portable speakers. This greatly improved the sound production, and provided enough sound for casual watching. I connected it to my receiver afterwards and had it playing on a full 7.1 system, which sounded great and provided a fuller movie watching experience. The screen you use plays a big role in the image quality. I currently have a Silver Ticket Products (STR-16992-G) 1.0 gain matte gray fixed frame screen that I use with my UST projector. Fixed frame screens provide the flattest surface you can project onto, and don’t have any surface issues that can distort the image. The 1.0 gain matte gray of my screen works against this projector a little bit as it slightly darkens the image. At 400 lumens I don’t need any darkening. A white screen with maybe a little more gain would suit it better depending on your viewing angles and room brightness. I also projected onto a flat white wall and had good results, which makes the case for this being a portable projector. I also took it outside and displayed it on the front of my garage door, which is a flat surfaced door. It worked well in this scenario, but I was definitely stretching the limits for the size of the image I could project. I can see using it for projecting a movie on Halloween while we hand out candy. All things considered this is a solid little projector. Its not perfect by any means but its more than serviceable. My biggest gripes are the non-backlit remote, and the lack of ARC support on the HDMI input. The projector itself isn’t the brightest, but if you give it a darkened room then it does a pretty good job. If you are on a budget you can reasonably skip the screen and project on a flat white wall, but using a screen improves the viewing experience.
