Q: Does this keep the ice frozen like for how long
A: The Opal does not keep the ice int he bin frozen, but as ice melts, the water is circulated back through the machine to continuously make new ice.
Q: Does this version hook up to a side tank?

A: I believe my mom had the same issue and its either because there is no water in the water basin to create ice or the filter needs replacing!
