Having tested 1000's of review PCs, Macs, and laptops I can tell you that this is the best iMac ever made. The fact that it has a Radeon Pro 580 card means you can play AAA titles in 4K Ultra at around 30-40 FPS, 1440 60-90 FPS and 1080 75-150 FPS. This is an incredible GPU that is as powerful as an nVidia 1070 and this Radeon Pro 580 has 8GB of VRAM. Because the Processor and GPU are so powerful it will fly through editing videos and photos. The 5k display is the best display you can get. It measure 5mm at the thinnest point and looks great. The speakers are loud and full and you won't even need external monitors. Build quality of the unit is flawless and now the I/O has 2 USB C w/ Thunder Bolt 3. This allows for some very interesting future proofing including using external GPUs later. It also has 4 USB 3.0 Ports, full size SD Card Reader, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. I have the unit with the i5, 8GB RAM, 2TB Fusion drive, and 580 GPU. Save yourself the money and upgrade the RAM by yourself if you want more. I highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for a computer that is as powerful as any PC out there and can easily play AAA games in Windows 10 via bootcamp install. I hope this has helped you. Is an iMac or PC Is A Better Deal?

If you switch from a PC to an iMac, you'll never go back. Eight years ago I was a novice Apple user. The only device I had was an iPod and I liked it, but didn't love it. My PC, which was a little over 2 years old was showing its age because there had been a couple of major upgrades in Windows operating system since I purchased it. I paid a small fortune for each of the upgrades and installed them as directed, but as any PC user knows, the OS upgrades never quite work as well -- even with a clean install. My original reason for considering an iMac instead of a PC was for seamless syncing with the iPod. I considered, the price (an iMac was almost twice as much as a PC) and limited applications for the iMac as big drawbacks to buying an iMac.. I also had an investment in several PC applications like Word, Excel, and Quicken that I thought I could not live without.. In the end, it was the sleek look of the iMac with no tower, a wireless keyboard and mouse, a 27" display and built in DVD player that sold me. I have never regretted that decision. I don't miss the blue window of illegal operation death, I don't miss paying a small fortune for updates to the operating system, and I don't even miss the software (much of which is available to run on the Apple OS). I now have an iMac, an iPad, an iPhone and an Apple watch, all of which work flawlessly with each other. I find I'm spending time doing things on the computer and not wasting time trying to get things to work. The best part is that it lasts years longer than a PC. I would have purchased at least 2 PC's in the eight years I had my iMac. I never felt that my computer was out of date in all that time. I would still be using it, but I started to have a problem with the internet connectivity, and decided to buy a new one instead of repairing the old one. I love the iMac and encourage all of my friends and relatives to buy Apple products..

      Watch out “Geek Certified”

I have ordered open box of “Geek Certified” imac with 27 inch 3.8 ghz. But we received a 3.4 ghz imac in the box of 3.8 ghz imac box. After I found that I received a lower model imac, I immediately called a customer service. The representative told me to bring it to the closest store so that they will exchange it with the same products at further discounts. I didn’t want to bring it to the store because it is heavy and takes 30min to get there. But I already spent 2 hours to set up the imac with my personal info and needed to let “geek” delete all of my info in the wrong imac. I decided to bring it to the store. Geek guy at Smyrna store told me what he could only do is to boost up the turbo of cpu clock from 3.4 to 3.8ghz in the wrong imac. I questioned him about the differences of storages 1TB vs 2TB and graphic chips. The guy didn’t even know about there are differences in storage sizes and graphic chips.. I told him to exchange the product because each model has totally different cpu clock, storage size, and graphic chip. He and his supervisor then asked me to send it back to warehouse by myself because they don’t accept returns purchased on-line.. in addition, they tried to sell me a “new” imac at normal price. Totally different from what customer service representative told me. I complained about what “Certified” really means. I happened to find it out but I think that there are many people who don’t realize that they were sold lower model. I have no idea why this happened but I am pretty sure that this was not the only one. So you need to be very careful that Best Buy has been selling lower models at higher model price! Please check the system to make sure the model you purchased was actually the model you paid for. These guys were laughing on my face all the time and never considered that this is the serious issue. I have been purchasing many items from them over decades, but I don’t trust them any more. They have serious issues that they don’t realize. Don’t buy from them.

This iMac 5K is my new primary computer, replacing a 2014 MacBook Pro for web development and basic video editing using Adobe CC. First off, the display is amazing. I never thought of Apple as providing a great value, but the price on this is not bad when you take a look at the cost of other 27" displays of a similar resolution. I'm currently running it with an attached 23" 1080p secondary display (Acer T232HL), and the difference is night and day. The other thing that strikes me about this computer is how speedy everything is. Apps launch instantly, interface has 0 lag. I suppose its the same with any new computer, but it feels really nice in comparison to my well-optioned MacBook Pro. I also have connected a G-TECHNOLOGY G-RAID 8TB Thunderbolt 1 enclosure connected via Apple's USB-C to Thunderbolt adapter. The connection has been pretty painless, despite how badly I hate dongles. I was surprised to find that, using Adobe Media Encoder, this computer does not perform above and beyond my MacBook Pro by as big a margin as I expected. When encoding 4K HEVC, I saw an improvement of about 20-30% in encoding times over my 3 year old laptop. I suspect the Core i5 3.8GHz in the iMac is not as high-end as the Core i7 2.5GHz in my laptop. That being said, there are definite advantages when it comes to Premiere. Analyzing shaky footage using Warp Stabilizer seems much improved. And, of course, viewing 4K footage at 100% in the viewer is pretty epic. Also, I know its a small thing, but I really like the new wireless keyboards. They look and feel great. Overall I'm really impressed with this computer, and specifically the display. I'd recommend this computer to anyone, from programmers to video pros to consumers.

      Great Mac Desktop

      Posted
      ias2018

my 2009 iMac was keep freezing up for last few weeks, i could not figure out the cause of it, although it could have been fixed for few hundred bucks may be, i decided to switch to new one due to fast speed of data transfer, my usage was basically photo editing and some video clips editing, this iMac Screen is beautiful, plenty of ports, specs on this mac is top notch, it gives me speed i need for then stuff i need to do. 2TB fusion drive is decent size. the only con is Keyboard and mouse, KB it so small, have no wrist support, painful to type, mouse is awkward to recharge and painful to use for longer period of time. i am planning to use old apple wired KB and Logitech McMaster mouse. so sleek mouse and KB will be sitting at desk. Fusion drive is ok for me as apps load very fast (it has 128 GB SSD) , another added option is to get SSD as main HD and use fast external drive, either way is it costly. Graphic card is 8 GB RAM which is plenty for occasional gaming as well. For this price iMac should come with 16 GB of RAM, not sure why apple always short change the consumers for Memory and storage on most of their product. they do it on IPhone, IPAD and MacBook pro, they sell expensive stuff at below competition spec. i added Crucial 16 GB Ram for $155, better than paying $200 extra for 16 GB, now i have 24 GB RAM for $155, RAM is very easy to install, there is video on you tube for that. for future proofing and if one do lot of 4k video editing i would recommend I7 processor. Pros: Screen, Speed, Graphic card, ports Cons: mouse and KB (ergonomically) Gripe: 8 GB RAM at $2200 price point.

Thought that the screen would be too large, but I just changed the font size and it's perfect. Now the screen on my Mac Book Pro seems small. I didn't like the Apple mouse that came with it, so I bought the Apple Trackpad and love it. I would recommend this for everyone that's used to using a laptop. Definitely take advantage of the $20 off of OFFICE for Mac at the time that you are purchasing your iMac. No one told me about this option at the store. I saw it online and had to go return and rebuy my computer to take advantage of this offer. If you're deciding between Apple or Microsoft, please please please spend the extra money and buy Apple. You will not regret it. I have had 2 laptops and now a desktop - all Apple, and the 2 laptops are 5 and 7 years old and still work perfectly. I was able to pass them down to my kids. I've owned so many Microsoft PCs and laptops and always ended up having problems with them that made them unusable and had to donate them to goodwill. Horrible products! I WILL NEVER BUY A LAPTOP OR COMPUTER THAT IS NOT A MAC EVER AGAIN! In the end, they last longer, so they end up being cheaper. There's a reason why Apple is more expensive, it's just better.

I switched from PC hardware to an IMAC. I have been using Windows and Linux in the past. There is a learning curve to go the the Apple operating system but well worth the time. I am finding it much easier to use. The included software is adequate for the home user, but you need a better word processor and spreadsheet program to do any serious work. The included keyboard had no numeric keypad which is a necessity for spreadsheet work and the included mouse had no right click capability. An absolute must to open multiple tabs in the web browser. The built in speakers are pretty good but if you like to play music with Bass response you will need an external speaker system. The display is excellent if you use your computer to watch videos. I use mine for that a lot. There is no optical disc provided. If you want to load software or watch movies from DVD or blu-ray you need an external drive. Overall an excellent piece of equipment, but needs add ons.

I have wanted to switch to an iMac for many years but have remained with PC mostly because of cost. Also, some of the software programs that I use regularly do not run on IOS. Windows 10 has been a big disappointment and is the main factor in convinced me to make the move to Apple. The iMac's 27 inch 5K display is remarkably clear and bright. The 2TB Fusion drive is lightning fast making booting and software execution almost instantaneous. One of the things I don't necessarily like about the iMac is that there are no front ports. To insert any USB device or memory card, etc, you need to stand up, lean forward, spin the computer and awkwardly try to fit whatever device into the ports on the back of the unit. Also, my assumption that everything about IOS would be better than Window turns out to be false. I am still happy that I switched to Mac. If only we could have everything we want in a computer.
