Great intermediate level computer
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great build, beautiful screen, and the screen pad after downloading drivers is very cool. My only hiccup came when I was running my Glowforge with minor 2d vector graphics and I'm getting alot of lag from click grab to re position on the graphic itself. Other than that it's a beautiful computer for casual use or light work. Thank you!

Top Notch Asus
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've purchased My Asus Zenbook about 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it. This is probably the best laptop I've purchased in a long, long, time. This is coming from someone who prurchased numerous laptops over the the last few years and currently owns 7 laptops. Aside from having a Macbook Pro, Dell 17" to mentions the new HP 15.6 Spectre last month, this ASUS tops them all. I wasn't looking for a 15.6" laptop but couldn't pass up a Best Buy deal for a Dell Inspiron with $k 512 GB SSD and pen that's housed in the computer. I bought that before Thanksgiving and took it back a week later and exchanged for the HP Spectre. While that's a fine machine and I still have it I find myself using the ASUS more and more. SO, here are the pros about it: 1. The 4k display is the best and brightest out there and at 300 NITS it 's even brighter than the HP. 2. The 1 TB SSD is amazingly fast, the computer boots up and is ready to use within 2 to 3 seconds and that includes the 1 second for Windows Hello to recognize me. Much faster the HP Spectre. (don't get me wrong, the HP is fast but cant compete with the ASUS in bootup time. It also seems to run multitask better the HP (sorry HP) 3. The battery life is really descent, it's definitely not the best but I find it last about 4 hours at max brightness and last several more if I turn down the brightness a notch or two. With OLED displays these days, they don't appear as bright as the LCDs used to be and that's one thing I like about this one. Also, the computer really charges up fast from a near dead battery to almost fully charged in about an hour. The charger is a 120W so that must be how they did it. The battery is also a 71KwH 8 cell. 4. As only a few peoples reviews mention it running loud and a few others say it runs a little warm, I find it to be the quietest laptop out there, I barely hear the fan when it kicks in, I did change a few settings for this but have changed them back to default as it didn't change anything. It also does not get too warm either, in fact it barely get warm at all. 5. I really like the Screenpad, I don't use it all that much so I disabled it but I do like that it has that functionality. It does take a little bit of learning to get the hang of it. When I get a computer desk again and use a mouse with it on a regular basis, I can see using the screenpad more. Both the screenpad/trackpad seem solid as do the hinges and the entire computer. Great Job ASUS!

Best laptop I've owned
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this laptop for about 3 weeks now and it's my new favorite piece of technology! I am a college student and I was looking for something that had a (14-15") screen for multitasking, a touch screen 2-in-1 for note taking, a discrete graphics card for casual gaming, and something with a decent battery life/weight so I could take it around everywhere. Luckily, I found this laptop on sale (it got filtered out on the 2-in-1 best buy feature selection for some reason, so I didn't see it until it went on sale) and it's been amazing! My favorite part has definitely been the 4K screen. I used to have a 13" 1080p laptop, and now I can multi-task and browse the web with so much more screen space. The words on the screen look sharp enough that I can see them from a good distance, so I'm not having to be as close to the screen to see it well. Plus, watching 4K videos on youtube is just so beautiful. The new ASUS screen trackpad is actually really sick and I just wish there were more useful apps on it. It's basically a built-in second screen and I feel like it has great potential. I usually turn it off to save battery, I just wish there were more uses for it. Speaking of battery, the battery life on this is pretty decent for a 4k screen. I don't need to bring my charger to school anymore and I usually do moderate programming/simulations for 6 hours a day. The size and weight on this thing is pretty good. The screen pretty much takes up the whole body of the laptop and the number pad is shrunk (which I like so more space is given to the standard keys), so it's a compact 15" laptop. I wasn't going to buy something over 5lbs, so 4.2lbs was perfect for me. It also stays very quiet and cool for most of my everyday tasks. Overall, I love this machine. I wanted to buy a higher-end laptop so it would last longer and so I would enjoy it more. My old computer was much cheaper when I got it and it just wasn't as satisfying as this one. In a few years, I imagine it'll be difficult to replace this thing because of all the features it has together. I do have a few (minor) complaints: - The keyboard part of the laptop tilts up when you move the screen back (which is great for desks), but that means the bottom of the screen jabs up against my legs. There's also these two small plastic bumpers that protect the laptop skin from being scraped, but it makes the computer slightly uncomfortable when I have the it on my lap. Not a dealbreaker and not sure how they would fix it, but my legs get slightly irritated. - The note taking capability on this thing isn't as great as I'd like. It could just be the pen I'm using (Windows Bamboo ink from last year) or because I'm using the built-in whiteboard app, but there's a slight amount of lag when I try and take notes for class. It's enough to slow me down when I'm trying to write fast. It's not as great as an Ipad, but for casual scribbles or scratch work, it works fine. - I wish the touchpad had more cool and useful features.

First time Asus buyer
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lots of memory . deadicated 4gb graphix . screen is pretty darn good and stable , not much play in it . you can use it as a touch screen or use a pen without propping something behind it.. the 2nd screen took some getting used . once I realized my add on mouse also worked that screen , game on.. with microsoft based products I am an HP loyalist. (since first PC in 1982) so I was hesitant . but options and price point was way ahead of the current best HP spectre 360. have not yet had a reason to regret the decision. I have a super suped up omen with 2 , 4k 27 inch samsungs and a third hp 23" touch screen for my work computer. needed something to go, that could do similar work at similar speed. this Asus is not a desk top, but it is a heck of a lot more than my 2 year old mac book pro, if that helps for comparison sake.. I would buy this again if the need arose.. BTW bought the omen and 2 screens at best buy one day sale oct of 2019 walked out the door for $1,190.00. had $140 in rewards. so I grabbed a new keyboard and mouse blues a 30 inch pad.. That was a sweet day.. thanks best buy.

So far, so great!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my fourth Asus laptop, and so far it is my favorite! A bit of history: My very first laptop was an early Zenbook that just became outdated, so I replaced it with the more budget-friendly Vivobook Flip 15. My original Vivobook's touchscreen failed in such a way that no one could seem to fix it, so it was replaced with a second Vivobook. That Vivobook suffered three hard drive failures in as many weeks and, as a medical student, this was not something I could ignore. I spend about 90% of my day glued to my laptop, so reliability is key. Hence, my purchase of this Zenbook (after all, I never had a single issue with my original Zenbook). Admittedly, this laptop is a little excessive for your typical student. But for a student who also enjoys gaming or digital art, this is a smart choice. I still can't get over the speed--a solid-state drive and 16 GB of RAM means that you're never waiting on the computer to load. I had just under a terabyte of data and programs to load onto this computer when I got it, and *I* was the one that was slowing things down; it finished a task before I was even ready with the next one! I finished setting the whole thing up within the day (for reference, it took me about 4 days to set up my previous one with *less* data). The 4K display is beautiful; even when working in Microsoft Word, the clarity and color is perfect. I do a lot of digital art with Corel Painter and am impressed with the color fidelity, not to mention the speed and resolution. The ScreenPad is a novelty with lots of potential. It's a little too small to really use as a second screen for referencing another document, and I already use an external monitor for that purpose (Although the main screen is plenty large enough to view multiple windows comfortably). I do like to use it as an entertainment screen, however; I will open Netflix or Hulu on it and let it play while I am writing a paper in a non-intrusive way. I don't find myself using the Word/Excel/PPT integrations that much yet, but that may change when the next full semester gets underway. (The ScreenPad is also great for surreptitiously playing Candy Crush or Solitaire during long lectures...) As a touchpad, however, the "feel" far exceeds traditional touchpads; it is very smooth. Aesthetically, the device is very pleasing. I'm a huge fan of the black metal casing, as it keeps the computer cooler, is harder to beat up, and makes it look classier. I love the nearly frameless design of the screen and the fact that they made a large-display device fit into a small-display chassis. This means that it is very portable and will fit in most backpacks and laptop sleeves. The flip feature is great for marking notes directly onto slides without wasting a bunch of paper and toner. I had the original Asus Pen from my previous device, but it would have been nice for Asus to include their Pen 2.0 in the box. I ended up choosing to buy that separately. The keyboard feels excellent to type on, and the number pad is a must-have for anyone that does a lot of data entry. I've had plenty of Zoom meetings lately to attest to the superb quality of the webcam. And the Harman/Kardon sound systems blows the previous SonicMaster systems out of the water. Add in the 4K UHD display, and this is a mini home theater. The NVIDIA graphics card allows the Zenbook to run graphics-heavy games with absolutely no lag (and at about a third of the price of a good gaming computer!) The charger is certainly not made for portability, but it does charge the device rather quickly. I don't often use my laptop without having it plugged in, but it seems to last a good six hours running Word, Excel, several Chrome tabs, and Netflix/Hulu simultaneously. At worst, it lasts about 2 hours while running an active Zoom meeting. If left idle, the battery lasts 10+ hours. I will update this review once I have spent more time with the device, but I've found nothing to complain about so far. All in all, this is another great Asus laptop that will surely serve me well over the next few years until its hardware becomes outdated. I was lucky enough to snag this one on sale, but even at full-price it is well worth it.

Great laptop with a few quicks
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Background: I was looking for a laptop that balanced portability with the biggest screen possible. I also wanted a dedicated GPU for some mild gaming when I'm traveling, as well as to speed up Photoshop and Lightroom for my photography, which narrows down the field considerably. That search led me to some good value laptops with MX 150 or 250 GPUs, which I was worried would feel under-powered, or intro level gaming laptops which all seemed too bulky. I finally found the Asus ZenBook series which somehow had everything I wanted, and got an open box deal to boot. Pros: -Build quality. All metal construction with no screen flex. This feels like a quality piece of hardware. -Portability. I am amazed they fit a 15.6" screen in a form factor that matches most 14" laptops. The additional ability to swivel the screen around into a tent shape or tablet configuration means I don't have to worry about it fitting in tight spaces. -Processor. Mine has a 10th Gen i7, although I see this same sku listed with 8th gen i7's. Not sure if they stealth updated or if they are mislabeled on BB's site as having 8th gen processors, but this is more processing power than I would ever expect out of a portable laptop and with low power usage to boot. -Storage. A full 1TB NVMe SSD with Intel Optane Memory is awesome. It wouldn't be enough to keep my entire media library on, but with this much space I don't feel the need to have a secondary hard disk, which would add power draw and weight. -Battery. I'm amazed they fit a 71KWH battery in something this small. The gaming systems I was looking at have larger power needs, were way bulkier, and only contained 48-55 KWH. Combined with the low power draw of the included components and this has impressive battery life. -Keyboard. It has a good variable backlight and a true number pad. I'm not as picky as most about touch type feel, but it feels good to me. -Value. I see this on sale even though it is new, and that sale price is pretty impressive for the premium components. I got an open box which pushed value even higher for me. Mixed: -The 4K screen. This is really a pro with some reservations, as it really is an excellent screen. As a hobby photographer I appreciate that it is calibrated and has a wider color gamut than most (I think 100% sRGB, 77% NTSC), and the fact that it is a touch screen adds some usability. However, it's hard (but not impossible) to see a resolution difference between 1080P and 4K at 15.6", and that 4K screen adds cost and power draw, plus causes problems for gaming (see next point). -The GTX 1050. I'm not sure why Asus is including the 1050 instead of the 1650 in this, as the 1650 gets more performance out of the same power needs and this is a top of the line laptop. My guess is they just kept the 1050 to not have to re-engineer where everything fits in this model from the previous one. Having a dedicated GPU is great for speeding up GPU-enabled tasks, but this is not powerful enough to drive a 4K screen in games (only top of the line desktop cards can). However, if you change the screen resolution to 1080P everything scales nicely and the 1050 feels much more capable. -Cooling. The fans will switch on quickly if you are doing anything demanding, and they are noticeable but not outrageously loud. Given the all aluminum construction, I wish they had used the entire body as a passive heatsink and radiator. -The ScreenPad. This feature intrigued me but I mostly keep it set to touchpad only instead of using the screen. The idea is good, but only Asus's apps really make use of the screen well, and those are typical crappy apps from hardware manufacturers. No third party developer is going to waste their time making good apps for such a niche market. I would love to have a hardware monitor running down there during gaming with usage and temps, but that seems to be an oversight from Asus. Also, the fact that the pad defaults to Screen mode instead of touchpad mode is a huge mistake. I don't want to have to touch a button in the corner of the screen every time I want to use the mouse. This may improve in time as Asus brings out more laptops with screenpads. -Weight. It is feels heavy for it's compact size, so don't expect this to be a featherweight laptop. That weight comes from solid construction and a huge battery, so I'll gladly have it, but for some this may be a turn-off. Cons: -Asus support. Asus's website does not make it easy to find info on various laptops, and the fact that some configurations vary based on retailer or region compound the issue. Also, it seems previous models of ZenBooks all had the folding screens, but as of the newest year only the flips have it. I wish there was a better way of figuring out exactly what each model had. Also, there is an included MyAsus app to keep system firmware and drivers up to date, but it doesn't appear to be possible to see what version is currently installed versus what is available online, which makes it essentially unusable. Of course documentation for this app is also insufficient on Asus's website. -Opening the screen. This may be a nit-pick, but it's hard to open the screen when this is closed. The hinges are stiff so that you can reposition them wherever you want, so you need some force to open it. Add to that the relatively heavy weight of the screen portion and the slippery feel of the aluminum, and I need both hands to open this when it's sitting on a table. I wish there was some texture or a little less resistance for the very beginning of opening it before you can get your hand in between the screen and keyboard. Overall I am very happy with this laptop, and I imagine it will be hard to find something with this combo of features whenever I finally have to replace it.

All around a quality laptop.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Screen size and 4K is nice and doesn’t strain my eyes and the keys are easy to type on. After having a laptop without touch for 8 years I noticed I do enjoy it for the convenience. This plays PC games very well for not being a gaming laptop. I enjoy having both screens especially with the Screenpad 2.0 update. I prefer the 1TB storage because I used more than the 500GB on my last laptop. The SSD is fast and the boot time is practically instant. I rarely use tablet mode but it is nice to have when walking around and I haven’t had any issues with it. If you are primarily wanting this for the tablet/notebook use I would get a smaller laptop. Finger prints do show easily on the back but it never bothered me. My only issue to date has been that the software didn’t recognize one of the displays and I had to use my Screenpad to fix the display settings. Though, this is an issue I encounter with my desktop PC as well having a dual screen setup. I bought this as an Open Box item for the lower price in order to meet my expectation for value. I would not pay full price for this laptop based on my intended use.
