Expensive to Operate

This printer operates fine, good quality prints quite quickly.
BUT
We all know that printer companies make most of their money on the supplies. Heck, they sometimes give the printers away so that they can sell you the toner. This printer is particularly expensive to operate. There are four toners carts in the machine, one black and three color.
When the machine determines that one of the color carts needs to be replaced, you MUST replace all three. Even if two of them are still adequately full, you must replace them as a set. At $70 each ($210 total) that is expensive.
Also, the printer uses a simple page count to determine when a cart is empty. For example, you print a page from a internet browser and some of the links are blue. That is one color page printed and deducted from the number of pages for the color carts. Even if it is a single character, one page is deducted. There are kludges on the internet to get around this page count method, but they are just that, kludges and I do not trust them.
So, you can see that this is VERY expensive machine to operate. Brother does not tell you about this beforehand. I bought the printer, used it, realized what the game was, and returned it for an HP printer.
I am happy now.

Great all-in-one for the price

This all-in-one printer, scanner, copier, fax is great. For the price it is a very high quality color laser printer (photo worthy in the presentations I've prepared). I bought it because it was one under $500 that was able to be set up to print and scan wirelessly (which is SWEET!) The program that comes with it for scanning is a bit tough to figure out, but once you get it down its a breeze. I am running 100% recycled paper without issues and when the cartridges run out I am going to run soy ink.

Great Entry Level All-in-One

Now that I've had it for over a month I feel I'm qualified to offer my opinion as a small-time user. Sick of ink-jet cartridge costs (about $380 a year# Since each laser toner cartridge #At about $80) will last me about 2 years worth of printing, this was the money saving way to go in the long run. It's quiet compared to the "big boys" at work. Setup is a bit painful only able to use that tiny LCD panel but once done you'll probably never touch it again so I can see why Brother didn't invest too much in that interface. The hues are perfect on all printouts. WiFi OR LAN OR USB interface only, not any 2, never mind all 3 at once. USB to do firmware updates, did mine fine. It just works, everything about it. No glitches, no hassles. XP machine as the primary. WiFi all the other machines in the house with this as the default printer (XP, Vista, and 7-64Bit) no problems.

Excellent Brother Printer...

Purchased this printer for my wife's home business as she does graphic design for jewelery making etc... The printer produces excellent bright colors and sharp printing. It is fast and has lots of features. Wi-Fi set-up is fast and easy, and all the controls are straighforward with pretty good software.
The printer is fairly large, but expected from a laser unit. Also is not very loud at all, though could not qualify as quiet.
My only complaint is that after 500-700 prints, we are already getting a low toner message on the black. After a little research I found out that apparently Brother sells these units with some sort of "starter" toner cartridges which don't last as long as a full OEM new cartridge, which should last for ~2000 pages. Depending on where you buy, 4 new toner cartridges can run you in the $200-$300 range, so not cheap at all, but I guess giving starter cartridges is better than giving you none at all. Just had to order new cartridges for $200+ and hope that these last a long time.

More Trouble Than It's Worth

Excellent print and scan quality. Photo scans are incredible. But using it for business? It's more trouble than it's worth. Printing an envelope is a NIGHTMARE. It jams EVERY time. The 1st time I tried to print one, it took two hours on the phone with a Brother rep to get it fixed. The service was horrible, as the tech I talked to knew NOTHING about the machine, and could only read instructions off a computer screen. Also tried to scan some docs yesterday, and for some reason it would NOT scan some of them. Still don't know why. Had to hook up the old scanner to get it done. Also, ALL scans come through crooked from the document feeder. Can't figure out how to fix that, either.

New standard of print quality

This printer is at least four times the quality of a laser printer. I have to have laser printed forms for my business and this printer delivers and raises the bar. Tech support was also wonderful helping me set it up to my network.

Was easy to setup and works well. Would have been nicer if it had auto dual sided printing instead of through the manual feeder.
