A: The paper drawer has to remain slightly open if you need to use legal paper. The part is a cover for the open part of the drawer.
A: I have this printer. The paper tray will hold legal (8.5x14) paper, but the tray sticks out the front a couple of inches when it does. And is flush with letter sized. That's just how they made it. So it prints legal just fine. The flat bed scanner is only letter/A4 sized, but it also has a sheet feed scanner. And that will scan and copy legal size just fine. So for scan/copy of legal, they must be individual sheets that can be pulled in one at a time from the top for scanning/copying. Hope that helps.
Q: does this printer print Envelopes?
A: Yes it prints envelopes. You can load them in the paper drawer if you have a lot to print or you can insert a single envelope in the multi-purpose tray (which is just a slot on the front of the machine not really a tray.) Do refer to the markings/manual as to the proper way to orient the envelope when inserting it as it will only print on one side.
A: Yes, it does duplex scanning.
Q: Does this have separate drums that have to be replaced or is the drum a part of the cartridge?
A: There is no separate drum. The Single-Cartridge System combines the toner and drum into the same unit, which means you only have one consumable to replace.
A: My printer came with starter color cartridges and a full (normal size) black cartridge. Yes, you can print with a low toner warning.
Q: What photo paper would you use for this printer?
A: Only tried once for photos on my Epson inkjet paper and it didn't come out good at all. On plain bond it came out pretty decent. So, my guess is you need to find laser photo paper and not use inkjet. Good luck.
Q: Does it still print black and white if one of the color cartridges are out?
A: Yes, this printer will still print B&W docs regardless of the status of the color cartridges.
